The explanation of this preference of marching is that more than 120 steps a minute in a march requires immense athleticism and synchronization event you do it for a few minutes. Remember, race-walking is an Olympic sport. And these soldiers are doing that in coordination and carrying arms. this looks funny but also is an athletic and military performance.

These guys are tough (like the French but not quite the same) I worked with both French and Spanish legion in Mostar Bosnia and they are extremely effective. You don't want to mess with either group that's for sure.

The Spanish army has a unique doctrine, it is to disable the enemy's forces by paralyzing them of laughter, then the legionnaires move in to finish them off.

Is ironic how perspective works, in the spanish culture "legionarios" are seen as the most badass macho type of figure you can think off. Yet in this comments their seen as gays or stripers, which they do in a bit... anyway, I dont want to be close a legionario if he reads these comments 🤣

I came because I had read about the controversy surrounding a proposed memorial in Madrid. The article said that they had a "distinctive marching style", but I didn't expect this! Although I agree with a lot of the comments (Village People, etc), I can also see how they have gained their rather negative press. Even North Korea's or Russia's massed ranks of soldiers do not come across as threatening as this rather small number from the Legión. They may not use it (officially) today, but their motto of "Long Live Death" seems very appropriate.

Τhe tempo is a quick step, indicating the Legion's impatience to go into battle. The shirt is open in the chest to show fearlessness and daring in front of the deadly bullet. The colors are a reminder of the Legion's origins in the Spanish armies of Africa.

Faces strenuously looking up might seem cocky. Yet the message is a noble one: We thrive and we succeed to be above fear and other lowly emotions. Open shirts might look macho. And it is just that - yet in a good sense. It means: We are ready to confront fate. Even if it is death.
