This would be my dream if I had a garden to build a Japanese tea house. It’s amazing what you have built. So beautiful. I wonder if you practice tea ceremony in there. How lovely that would be to invite guests and perform ceremony for them.

I've just come across your video. Like yourself, I decided to go for a slate roof and I managed to source very cheap 'Spanish' slate from 'bankrupt stock' early in March this year. That reduced costs massively. The garden you have designed and keep seems pretty tidy compared to mine at the moment. Unfortunately, I have neglected the garden side due to the construction of the tea house and ensuring the pond and its inhabitants survive (Koi). The tea house you have built appears a lot more open than the one I am building. I intend to completely seal it from the weather when it is complete sometime in early 2021. The garden is becoming full time to be honest. Anyway, keep up the good work and tips. Kind regards: Alex

Thanks Alex, where are you based? Sounds like an interesting project. I hope to make some Shoji screens for the openings next year, so there's another project!

@@37012 I am in North Wales. Similar to yourself, the next stage will be putting together a 'Shoji' sliding door. I hope to start that in the next day or 2 - weather permitting which has'nt been great at the moment. the link below is a link to the playlist that shows how the build went from the base to the present day (part 15): kzfaq.info/sun/PLJ1IsvVEJmHCfACFDzxb49-pc0-VA2SQp Kind regards: Alex

Sorry if I missed it but was there a book or two that helped in planning aspects such as the joinery or the mudding of the walls?

Hi Adam, no books used... I've built many things, so it's second nature really. If you're into learning more about joinery, there are some excellent channels on here providing tutorials, including complex Japanese ones without nails or screws! As for the render, I employed a plasterer - some things aren't worth the hassle...

Japanese is about simplicity but there's definitely nothing simple with this that it became painful to the eyes!!! SERIOUSLY, HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE A SIMPLE QUADRILATERAL BUILDING WITH QUADRILATERAL WINDOWS & SLIDING DOORS!!! DEFINITELY, THE WORD JAPANESE HERE IS CLICKBAIT!!!
