Dak this was an amazing video really, would you be willing to make an actual box design and show us the real life performance and actually show us what cabin gain does? I don't know if you have the tools to measure the actual result as in SPL and frequency response; But that would make an amazing follow-up video, especially since you discuss cabin gain so much at the end.
@Dakoustics3 жыл бұрын
I've got the tools, spl meter, not a real RTA mic, but most mics are relatively flat so it shouldn't matter too much. I should tackle it shortly.

17:25 wait. I though winISD box size was without the port. So if you have a 60 L box, no matter the port size and length, the box size without the port has to be 60L. So if you include a 10 L port your box becomes 70L for space in the boot.
@Quetzalcoatl03 жыл бұрын
I never though about it, i just "knew", because when port volume changes the box size didn't so ye. www.subwoofer-builder.com/WinISD.htm 'Note that the volume shown is the Working Volume, and does not include the space occupied by the driver or ports'
@Dakoustics3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, total box volume for the design would have to take that into account, but WinISD doesn't take into account port volume. Part 2 will go into more detail.
@gianstevens79183 жыл бұрын
@@Dakoustics "but WinISD doesn't take into account port volume" What do you mean by that? Port volume is easily calculated by getting the external dimensions of the port depending on wood thickness etc no?
@Dakoustics3 жыл бұрын
@@gianstevens7918 What I mean is if your enclosure is 100L, you can create a 100L port. WinISD doesn't adjust enclosure volume to maintain tuning once port displacement is present.
@gianstevens79183 жыл бұрын
@@Dakoustics right so you mean, if your max available volume is say 100L and your box volume is 60L in winisd which you've tuned to say 30hz and your port is 40L. But, you increase the port in size without realizing to 50L, winisd will not automatically adjust the box volume down to 50L. Right?

Okay, I have a question. But first, what I am putting it in and what I'm looking for. I'm going with a 12" sub, sealed, but, I want to make it a down firing box. I don't see much on them anywhere. The reason for my choice is it's going in the place of my center consol of my Crew Cab F250, because behind the rear seat is pretty compact and better suited for where the amps should mount, and I am already building a center console to extend to the dash. So, my questions are, what would be the cons of using a sealed down firing box? And what would spacing from the floor affect the output.
@Dakoustics3 жыл бұрын
As you know, in audio, there's always a trade-off. The main trade-off of a down-firing woofer is limited high frequency response, which doesn't really affect a subwoofer, so you're safe. The benefits are better coupling, downfiring should have a better output than if it's facing upward. I wouldn't wanna space it too far off, or too close, a balance of cone travel allowance and airflow is needed. Something like, Xmax + (Driver diameter / 6), so for a 12" sub with 0.5" xmax, it'd be a gap of 2.5". For a 15" with 1" xmax, 3.5".
@faysalusman2 жыл бұрын
The box volume in winisd tells the net internal volume (gross volume minus the woofer displacement and any space occupied by bracing) or does it tell the gross volume ?

Great video, do you use the cone excursion graph in winisd? I’ve been playing around with it to get a idea of power handling in a given volume was wondering if it’s accurate or just gets you in the ballpark
@troybakker7628 Жыл бұрын
Idk the one from vituixcad is decently accurate. I designed a enclosure for a dd506d2 When i give it like 100 watts it has like 1 cm of excursion and vituixcad says about the same i think
@troybakker7628 Жыл бұрын
But its 1 way so if you compare it against xmax ur fine (cuz thats also 1 way) but when u compare it to the xmech of the driver u should do the movement of vituixcad x2 (cuz xmech is peak to peak i tought)

I am not technical so can’t execute these steps, is there a service who can make box design and give me I have a carpenter who will make according to plans I have lot of drivers from peerless tang band Purifi etc but don’t know what boxes to make.

I believe HexiBase does enclosure designs for Audio Dynamics, as well as JeepAndBass. Check their youtube channels. Other than that, try local PA suppliers, someone who works there might do box design if they do custom systems for local venues.

@@snakeradish yeah i have issues finding good software too. Some say that speaker building is all about compromised but as long as it sounds good and looks good, im happy with it. I use the12volt.com box calculators to calculate volume and winisd to do the rest of the port and box tuning.
