It's a small world after all and that means, at least in my world, that we live in small spaces. And many of us have small kitchens because of it. So I'm not surprised that after I posted my design lesson video on small spaces, many of you asked about a follow up video on small kitchens. In fact, a viewer named Rose Kelley was the first to initiate this idea in the comments section and many of you agreed so here we are. I'm going to review 3 different areas that will maximize your kitchen and make it look and feel bigger than it is.

When my husband was alive and my children were young... I had a gigantic house with a huge kitchen, with a fireplace in my kitchen. Now, I live in a 780 square foot apartment with a 5’ X 8’ kitchen! Kitchen Island? I don’t even have a dishwasher! Granted I don’t cook or entertain like l used to but sometimes I walk into my tiny kitchen and just cry. You had a lot of fabulous ideas and l subscribed to your Channel after I watched your video. ♥️👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Also, changing to an over-the-range microwave or a microwave set in a cabinet can free up a lot counter space. It could cost a bit if you don't have one, and it doesn seen like a big space savings, BUT if the microwave takes up 3sf of counter space, remember you paid $40-120/sf of counter space for granite, quartz, or solid surface.

Thank you for all the great ideas! I use a closet outside the kitchen to store dishes and gadgets I don't use often. I still have to make this closet more functional, so I'm planning to add more shelves, but so far it's helped me declutter my countertops and have more prep space. 😘

Wonderful! Well organized and concise. My highlight is the S-hook wall organizer with the living plants; even the drainboard and sill (window stool) accessory were tied into the look of the install. Also, the content for this entire video is satisfying because it demonstrates novel ideas in addition to timeless fundamentals. Totally cool, totally worth viewing! Great job and thanks for posting.-RM

Use the tips, but do them all on the inside of cabinet doors. There are lots of storage options for putting spices, knife blocks, pots, lids, foils and wraps, all on the inside of the door. There are also cabinets that can be mounted between two studs to eek out that 4" of extra storage.

I love how your videos are informative, show picture examples, and gets straight to the point. I just discovered your channel and I am enjoying binge watching EVERYTHING! I am really into the light airy modern/Scandinavian/mid-century/comfy look. I am moving into a townhome and plan to paint all of my walls white. My semi-open kitchen has dark cherry wood cabinets, white appliances, tan countertops, and dark hardwood floors. My budget doesn't allow for new appliances and I am not quite bold enough to paint my cabinets but I'd like to use peel and stick white subway tile and Instant Granite white marble coverings for the countertops. How can I successfully achieve a cohesive look without creating an overwhelming and cheap looking constrast because of the appliances? THANKS, in advance, for your help!

Perhaps I cook more than most, but several of your tips just won't work in a busy kitchen. You need excellent venting to keep mirrors and exposed pots really clean and sightly. The same applies with dark cabinets. I did like the folding table idea and most of your videos in general.

Very helpful Thank you. Video topic suggestion, how to decorate around soffit's in living rooms (or are they called bulkheads? the boxes built around ducting and metal beams etc) Do I paint them like walls or like ceilings? Do I terminate crown moulding so it butts up against the wall with the soffit or continue the crown moulding across it like any other wall? Thanks

Hey. Doesn't hanging pots, cutlery etc end up getting greasy after time?
@Designchickee
@Designchickee 3 жыл бұрын
Hey... doesn't your stove get greasy over time? After all, it's out in the open too, not inside a cabinet. I get this comment all the time. I just don't understand the confusion. Yes, it gets greasy and dusty, especially if you don't clean, and that's why cleaning your kitchen is important. Just as you would your stove, fridge, counters, floors, walls, etc. They're all out in the open. Thanks for your question.

I never like dishes and pots outside cabinets because of germs. A fly could land on them. A person sneezing or coughing spreads germs. Dust settles on them. Dog hairs float up. Pollen comes in the kitchen door and through windows. . I'm short, so they have to be low. Just a thought

No matter the size of space you can make it an absolute pleasure by adding and playing with pattern, texture and personality. The only rules are the ones you choose!!!!! My kitchen is the size of a peanut yet draping a silk scarf over the original kitchen window curtain and rod, putting magnets on the fridge and adding reflective and creative flairs = a world of difference!

Too big? Too small? Or just awkward?? I have a design dilemma. Im adding a wall to my open kitchen, and it pretty much needs to go where it needs to go as it will be load bearing. This leaves my kitchen with a bit of an awkward space. Too narrow for an island?? but too big have my stove sink and fridge on different walls, although that would make sense because it's kind of a u-shaped, it would be just about 10 ft from one wall to the other. That's also pretty narrow to put two on the one wall 🤦🏻‍♀️. I'm so torn part of me thinks -put the wall in and you'll figure out the kitchen and the other me thinks figure out the kitchen before you commit to the wall. HELP! What order should I decide things in and where do I go for help. 😶

Most of the design tips seemed like exterior clutter to me . Very busy to the eyes making the space appear even smaller . Further more it will just add to more cleaning as those things hanging all over these rails get sticky and dusty .

I have a very challanging living room with Dining area and a kitchen. The reason is that the room doesn't feel to harmonize... need to buy new furnitures and have no idea what to do. The space for the sofa/living area is simply too small which means I have to place it somehwere else where I didn't want to ... I wish to have one to one advice, but not over patreon ... Are there any other options? A similar problem I have with the bedroom; bedause the ceiling has a beam which is not located at the middle of the room, but somewhere on the side. This means that when placing the bed in the middle of the room. I shall be always looking at this beam all the time; it is simply obstructing the view ... It is not a wooden beam, it is concrete, so not removable (too late for that).
