I love hearing your creative process! I am just going back to backplan a memory spread using one of your mysteries, and it's SO fun with all the elements you include! I appreciate your thoughts on the car and it made me giggle a little - being in the US I was wondering how you would think through that given the scene and you being in the UK! I love using your kits anyway, so it just makes it unique. :D

I love this - what would you recommend on how to do this template?

As someone who has always designed in Silhouette, because photoshop baffles me, this is so interesting! Also the amount of times I had to pause the video thinking my baby had woken up, only to realise it was your buns! 😂

Hahaha omg I'm so sorry, she really picks her moments 🐰 I'm glad you enjoyed it! I settled on Photoshop early on because when I opened my shop my computer was soooo sluggish with Silhouette I was avoiding it at all costs except when I had to cut 🤣

Thank you for sharing your process in real time. I'm wondering if all the white boxes and the gradient boxes are in their own layer. And how do you do your cut files? Do you have a separate cut layer or do you do that all in silhouette? When you created your template, did you make all the sticker elements with bleed? Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to printed stickers and woukd love to learn.

Yes they’re all in separate layers! I include bleed on the photoshop file :) I actually cut from Adobe Illustrator (using Graphtec plotter) so my cut files are there but when I used silhouette for cutting I made my files there too!

Thanks lovely! Omg it's funny you say that bc I am due a designing sesh for foil and I have to remind myself how to do it EVERY time because I don't do it week in week out like kits 💀

Not me drawing extra backgrounds and trying to make them blend all this time because I didn’t know about the content aware feature. I was not content aware.

It’s “clipping mask”! I have it bound to a keyboard shortcut!

What a great video! I really enjoy seeing your design process and creativity in putting a kit together. Also makes me curious how you put together your format. Do you have any tips on that? Like how you do the pages where you can add all the colours in one go or have one page to paste all the patterns in. Looks like magic to me 😂 (my format is far simpler, so I’m always keen to improve)

I'm glad you enjoyed it!! It's funny actually, I was discussing this recently because although my templates have evolved over time, I still have elements in there that I made back in like 2017 🤣 Like if I had to start from scratch I have no idea how I'd approach it! I have each of my solid colours on a single layer so I can re-colour them with colour overlays, and for patterns I make use of smart objects (usually multiple inside each other). It means the files are huge, but if your machines can handle them it saves a lot of time only working from a couple of files instead of needing 1 per sheet! I'm just always seeking a more efficient way to do anything 😅

@@Plannerface Thanks for the reply! I had no idea you could do a smart object in a smart object 😋 Your file does look complicated, haha, and I can totally understand it evolved over time. You would somehow have to cut up the pages, right? For patterns, I always use pattern overlay. In photoshop you can define your own pattern and if it’s seamless, it automatically repeats itself. You can still adjust size and angle. Such fun to play around with! 😇

@@spacekiwis yesss you can but obviously the more there are the more complex the file! and if I have too many open I get a scratch disk error sometimes lol. I didn't show this but I think I have shown in previous videos, I put this big design file into a separate file where I print and it uses layer masks to "cut" the file up for me so I'm only printing certain pages at a time. I use patterns for making foil but I don't find I have as much control over the placement when using them to change the kit patterns - but I'm not as familiar with the tool! This is one of the reasons I LOVE Photoshop tho - there's so many ways to do something to get to the same results and it's just so fun hahaha

@@Plannerface Absolutely, there is no single way of doing things! That’s why I enjoyed this video from another ‘regular photoshop user’ and not some wizard (which are fine, but can be challenging to follow). Gave me some ideas of things to try 😉
