A matching pair of supersized Giant Scale Bell 47G RC helicopters are filmed and put through their paces at The Whittlesea Special Interest Group in Melbourne Australia. Helicopters where built by Michael and have a 2m rotor diameter and a length of 2.5m tip to tail. Airfield, pilots and heavy models are registered with Australian Miniature Aerosports Society. Simplify your insurance, contact AMAS and get up and fly.

My grandfather flew a Bell model 47 for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, District of Columbia. Died in a helicopter crash in 79. I really want to make a small-scale replica of the chopper he flew. Any advice or starting points you could hook me up with? I'm brand new to custom RC vehicles, and I want to start just by making the chassis of the chopper first, then add the mechanical bits when I know exactly what I need to do and know. These are awesome models. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing these!

Hello and thanks for watching. Very sorry to hear about the death of your father. Thank you for sharing his story those years were great times. The best way to go about it is to buy a plastic model of a Bell47 and the scale it up from there. You can also get the plans and enlarge them to the size you want. Using the plans you can cut all your tubing to size, notch them and silversolder. This would be a good starting point. If you email me I will send you the photos I have. My email address is on the “About” section of my channel 😀

Hi Andy, we usually blow or vacuum form our own acrylic windows etc... However, these were just to big for us to do. So we located a skylight manufacturer in Melbourne and he blew them for us. They cost approx $50 each, but he did such an excellent job so we didn't harp on the price ;-)

So cool!!! Sneak in more build pics. :) I loved the approach for the landing.....since I typically watch all the vids in 1.5 playback speed....the first time watching it, I was like.....HOLY S**T!!!! It was still pretty dang fast on normal speed!! lol :) Thanks! You picked helicopters cause they're waaaay easier to fly than the planes........right??!! ;) (wink, wink)

Hey Mike, thanks for watching. This was the first time that I included build pics with the video. I need to do more of this. My friend Michael built both choppers by hand and manual machining. He does a bloody good job for a bloke with one eye and pair of digital verniers with no battery in them. I did some CNC machining and made some aluminium cooling fans on the HAAS using 3D HSM machining. But silly me forgot to record any video of it (Doh!). Cheers mate, Aaron.

@DCT_Aaron_Engineering

walter riely Hi Walter. The blades are 900mm semi-symmetrical carbon fibre. The mechanical parts are predominately Trex-700 with some adaption of Robbe-Schluter here and there. My chopper is the TAA one and Mick's is the Ansett. I believe it is up for sale to make way for another chopper project. Cheers, Aaron

These are amazing!!! I have a few helicopters myself, and what is sad, is I have never flown any of them, as I am terrified to, lol... they are just kits, and I really enjoyed assembling them, but, I have not skill set on flying anything! I received a dinky quad-choptor, that literally can fit in the palm of a childs hand, and I can't even fought dinky thing, lol... some day, I suppose, but these bubble canopy types I have always liked because you can see all the internals, and shafts and transmission stuff ... I am having a blast watching your channel, all sorts of neat stuff!!! Dru

Dru Bradley Hi Dru. Thank you so much for your kind and positive comments mate. Glad you’re enjoying my content. I’ve got heaps of stuff up on this channel such as tractors, old machinery, robots, CAD, CAM, CNC and helicopters. I think having such a diverse range of content has stifled my channel growth. Unfortunately I think most people just want a channel that focused on one thing or a specific topic range. Really happy that you appreciate it Dru. Thanks mate 🍻

@DCT_Aaron_Engineering
@DCT_Aaron_Engineering 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven, thanks for watching and providing feedback mate. The second bird is my Bell 47G. I'm not sure where the muffler came from, but I think my friend Michael got it from China via eBay back in the day. We used these mufflers to get rid of the Zenoah pong boxes, as they are really loud and annoying. Cheers, Aaron.

Thanks Aaron. Was just curious about the muffler. Looked like a really clean install and I agree about the Zenoah mufflers. They're pretty much useless, about one step better than an open exhaust! ;-)

nice video. I have always like these kind of helicopters since they were used on the hit tv show "M.A.S.H." her in the US. perhaps you can build one to look like that helicopter with the cots that hung on the outside of the helicopter to transport the wounded back to the field hospital

@DCT_Aaron_Engineering
@DCT_Aaron_Engineering 7 жыл бұрын
Yes mate I still have my chopper. What I meant by my comment, is that the the main rotor rotation isn't scale so I wasn't worried about the tail For me to change the tail I would have to change the rotation in the gearbox, but this wasn't possible with the gearbox we used. Cheers, Aaron
