I went to see War Horse in London. I came as a lifelong equestrian and adult studier of equine language and behaviour, as well as a horse lover. I came to see a play with horse puppets and puppeteers/actors and left having seen horses performing. At no time did the actors/puppeteers become more vivid than the horse they were representing. In fact they were hardly there at all. I never saw 10 legs, only 4. It was an incredible, magical and awesome performance... I felt the hoofbeats through my chest, especially when they galloped towards me. A necessary device was that horses don't vocalise that much at all, but I understand the need to engage with the less equine versed majority of theatregoers. For me the ears, eyes, nose, legs, hooves and tail did all the talking. It was one of the best nights of my life and my only regret about it was that I couldn't do it over and over again to relive the magic. Fantastic work from inception to end, true miracle workers! Thank you.
