This video shows me in detail designing a Celtic Knot in Lightburn. Not one design. But three different versions. I also show how to use that design to then make an earring using that design. There are going to be a lot of people that watch the first 8 minutes or so and struggle to replicate this design. To keep from struggling and banging your head, watch this straight through. The go and duplicate the process. Once you know why I do the things I do, this is extremely easy to replicate.

I was able to do these today, a work of all places, not the hobby room. Thank you for showing how it is done. Now to figure out what to do with them :) 😆

Believe me Carl, they care. I appreciate your kind words. But in today's world, if they don't get it in 10-12 minutes, they check out. So far, the analytics for this video show that to be true. Very frustrating. Thanks for watching, hope you took something from it.

I did watch this video all the way through, (Twice), and still had to come back a couple of times. Thanks Steve, it was fun creating that design. I do not usually copy your designs but I really liked this one. I am going to send you some biscuit money!

You are always welcome to copy my designs. Any design I have on hobowithwood.com that you don't feel like copying and decide to buy instead, you are welcome to make and sell those as much and as often as you like. I hope to find someone that is able to make a million dollars off one or more of my designs and they simply keep me in biscuits.

This worked really well the first time. Now everytime I get so far, the nodes go away, usually around the time I group each pair of circles. At that point I can't get them back. What am I doing wrong? Yeah, they are going away as soon as I group them. Not sure why I got away with it the first time but now I can't do it again. I keep watching the video step by step to see if I'm missing something.

I’ve watched your video on creating Celtic Knots (as usual very informative). When creating nodes around an ellipse, I understand setting the offset distance to zero (0) to duplicate an ellipse so the nodes encircle the object. My question, is there a way to create rectangles with nodes that encompass the entire rectangle?
@HoboWithWood
@HoboWithWood Жыл бұрын
Not that I am aware of. A node is inserted when the design requires a curve. Since the square/rectangular shapes have no curves, you get four nodes.

I can't get edit nodes to work. I've been trying for the last half hour. Using Lightburn 1.4.04. Has the method changed? I duplicate each circle, do the circular array just fine, node edit doesn't show all the nodes and won't let me delete the outer portions of the rings. Recently found your channel and apologize for reviving an old discussion. Thank you!

You have to convert the circles to paths. You won't see the nodes of circles. Select the image. Go into the edit menu. Choose convert to path. Your nodes will appear. I also just did a video on how to use the undo feature while in node editing that is worth the watch if you use node editing a lot.

I have tried 5 times following you step by step to do this and every time somewhere in the duplication and pairing process my nodes go away and i can't get them back what the hell am i doing wrong?
@HoboWithWood
@HoboWithWood Жыл бұрын
make sure everything is ungrouped. when you create offsets of a pair or more, the resulting offsets are grouped. immediately after creating the offset, while it is still selected, ungroup everything. you will not see nodes of a selected group. you can see the nodes of multiple shapes, but not if they are in a group. try that.

Hey Steve, is there a reason you don’t simplify your offsets?
@TheMakersMarkTSF
@TheMakersMarkTSF Жыл бұрын
A simple offset for a circle would be four nodes, that is what you are trying to avoid.
@HoboWithWood
@HoboWithWood Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm not sure what you mean when you say "simplify your offsets", but try it your way and let me know if it works. But like @MySpotintheWoods says, avoiding a simple circle is the goal. It's been my experience that the trim feature in node editing doesn't work that well with primitive shapes. I demonstrated that in the video. But I hardly ever have a problem with trimming offsets.

I completely appreciate the detailed instruction and trust me, I need it. BUT...is there a reason you can't just import the picture you're wanting instead of re-creating it piece by piece ? FYI...If people don't like the length/time of a video, they can speed it up, but I like the choice and enjoy learning.
@HoboWithWood
@HoboWithWood Жыл бұрын
A couple of reasons for doing this are, 1.) It's as much about learning the techniques used in the video. And 2.) If someone traces the The Starry Night, would they be considered Vincent van Gough's equal? Mainly, since I'm selling a lot of my designs, I don't feel right about selling others' work. Plus, I really love looking at designs and figuring out how to use the tools in Lightburn to recreate them. Many will not find recreating the knot a useless ability. But the trim function is a new arrow in their quiver they will use often. Thanks for watching.

"They've" stolen many symbols and turned them into something ugly and negative. Intention is everything. Let the mind controlled do their thing and you keep making great designs. I do have one request though, could you maybe change your curser to something alittle more easier to follow? When you move it to click on something, it blends in with the rest of the black/white screen and by the time I've backed the video up and slowed it down to see what you clicked on....you've moved on and are about 4 steps ahead 😂. Just a request, but I'll survive if you don't
