If you place something in the house that can usually be turned on (like the bubble machine) you can exit out of the placing mode and interact with it to turn it on as usual :)

Wow Charlie Barley, you can make nicer homes than I can in Happy Home Paradise while you are trying to bully the villagers and make their lives living hell (chainsaws and garbage cans everywhere) with your designs than I can while I am trying hard on my homes. Good Job.
