We talk about the design process of a giant village map I am creating for the Zweihander Starter Kit! This map is designed for a Village Crawl style ttrpg, where player characters are going to be in the same village for most of the adventure!

My group was exploring a Cyclopes ruin and I did some on the fly stick figure sketches to emphasize the scale and I was surprised at how impressed my players were and how much the read into the doodles.

This is such an underrated channel. Really never found a channel that has so much useful content as well as beautiful maps to boot. Really made me want to explore art and isometric maps and they are definitely so much more interesting to work on AND play on! Thanks crow :) wishing you the best

What a beautiful map! I love how evocative it is, as well as the advice you give on village mapping. Have pretty much no art skills, so what I end up doing is starting with literally a blank sheet; when the players go somewhere, that gets put on the map. The longer we play, the cooler the map ends up being.

How would you tackle mapping out a larger city? I want to play with my players AND the map like you described. Does it work on a larger city scale as well?

.. how do you handle travel vs movement gameplay? Im making my own heart breaker (my own TTRPG) and I want to make it more explicitly gameist and lower narrative play.. however travel and movement feels terrible without narrative jumping or leading? Is it possible to go from Hex to city map to gridded combat without heavily relying on “the party makes its way to the cauldron district” ?

how do you print the blue lines that you ink right over? digital drawing then print?

I scan in a pencil drawing that I make on paper, then use Photoshop to change the lines blue.

@@mapcrow Oh wow that is a impressive. Obviously the art is excellent, but that is a lot of work to draw, scan, ink. I have been practicing isometric drawing since being inspired by your videos, but I am encountering the true amount of work in proper art work. It's good for me to know! Thanks
