I remember falling in love with Designing Women back in 1999 (in my 8th grade years in middle school) I recorded every single episode from pilot episode to series finale off Lifetime on vhs and took the commercials off of them and burned all of the episodes onto the DVD+RW's. Wasn't a Designing Women can when it first came on network tv but those reruns got me loving them along with Golden Girls.

I remember my local CBS affiliate WSPA 7 used to show reruns of this show (Designing Women) along with Mama's Family, Golden Girls and Empty Nest back around 1993 to 1994 after the daytime soaps went off for the day. Great TV worth watching back then.

It's funny I see this comment about The Golden Girls.. because I had forgot about designing women and I just saw an episode of Golden Girls a few minutes ago where Sophia mentioned this show and I decided to come here. I miss the 80's and early 90's shows like them. Brings back so many good memories.

The theme song is called "Georgia on My Mind," the official song for the state of Georgia. For the first five seasons it was performed as an instrumental; with Doc Severinsen lending his talent to the song's arrangement used for the 1986-88 episodes. A re-arranged version was used for the 1988-91 episodes (this version here); and, in a rare move, Ray Charles himself sang his famous rendition of the song for season 6 (1991-92) only. For the final season (1992-93) the opening theme was dropped almost altogether (instead we're only treated to a few bars of the song before it fades out and we then see the names of the cast over the segment footage).

I've known this theme song since I was 5, as while I never saw the show back then, at my babysitter's place in 1991-92(who had cable when my then single mom-led family didn't), us kids sit through the end credits of this series if the babysitter tuned in to Lifetime early enough while we waited for 'SUPERMARKET SWEEP!' to start and eat Plush Pippin treats from the grocery during it all. 😊 I do really want to see that exterior shot house in Little Rock though...
@ScottGammans4 жыл бұрын
I wish Hulu used this longer version of the opening credits instead of the truncated version that they use for the first five seasons. (I also wish Hulu didn’t use the shortened-for-syndication episodes that omit key scenes, but that’s a complaint for another day.) Thanks for posting this!
@steineri862 жыл бұрын
I don't understand or care for the cobbled version of the credits they use...the beginning of this one, then the season 1, the back to this at the end...I guess that's their way of not having to change it when the series did?
@codym8897 Жыл бұрын
Beginning in Season 3 (1988-1989), and ran until Season 5 (1990-1991), the opening credits featured sepia-toned images of the show's characters, with their names appearing onscreen.👍

I remember watching a little bit of this series on lifetime and then tv land as a kid. From what I remember of it I mostly liked it for Meshach Taylor though. His, Tim Reid, Robert Gulliame and Ron Glass' roles as the sole black actors on big hit network shows with predominantly white casts and had wonderful parts that became popular and were nominated for emmys wasn't as common in those days and never bettered.
