Same. I ordered mine 2/6 and it shipped today 2/9, should be here on the 14th. If you order without the AMS it’s a different story. They have those listed as preorders with a 2 week lead time.

1:01:26 That green component with the two copper windings is not a transformer. It is a "common-mode choke" which is used to filter noise from the printer electronics from going back down the power cord and "transmitting" through your house. It is yet another sign of a high-quality design and implementation.

That the choke exists isn't a sign of high quality design, and especially of high quality implementation. That would be determined by the actual performance. Limiting conducted emissions is a legal requirement to sell a product in most countries. That's not to say it's a bad design. It may well be great. I love my X1C dearly. SO MUCH supposed "hardcore engineering analysis" of products like this on the internet does this though, and it's getting tiresome. WOW they have *legally mandated component!* It's amazing space age design! GOSH even NASA can't design anything this well! How well does it work? I have no idea haha, but look at it! Would be good to get a real engineer with actual experience to give their hottakes once in a while. And even they do it.

New to the 3D printing. Not really wanting a new hobby, or at least not wanting to be an enthusiast tweaking every setting and modding my printer. I want the tool to print things I need around the house for which there are no off the shelf solutions that are a true fit. This is one of the most objective and informative reviews I've seen of this printer and really helps set my expectations for this tool. Thank you so much for putting so much time and attention into this video!

Im in the exact same boat as you are! I tried to go the starter printer route with a creality ender 3 and I ended spending more time fixing and adjusting the machine than I did using it. It ended up sitting there doing nothing for months on end. Im purchasing this printer soon and I hope you have a flawless time with it as well.

I recently purchased the new lower priced $600 Bambu P1P and it arrived in two days. I'm absolutely blown away by it and it's not even the flagship model. Never again, and I mean NEVER can I go back to super low budget printers. The P1P itself is the budget version for Bambu and even then, it blows away anything priced under it and yes, in my opinion, it's better than the Prusa MK3 and MK4. It's pre-built and you'll set it up and print a benchy with 40 minutes of unboxing it. I enjoy 3D printing again❤❤❤

They are insane, aren't they? Who could have ever imagined that what is essentially a DIY robotics company would have soccer hooligans supporting it. There's no logic with them. They just want to be part of a winning team. They say a bunch of words that sound logical but they're a cheat. They've already come to the conclusion that Prusa is a winner. So when they talk about the technical issues they aren't looking for truth. They are just trying to make Prusa win. They will fight against all evidence to the contrary. No matter how truthful.

I'm really glad you made a deep dive in to this printer. I've watched loads of reviews of the dev kits but most just talk about the features and print benchies, where as you critically review the mechanical design and components and give honest feedback. It's sad that the majority of 3D printing channels end up being super positive, gloss over the negatives and then give sales pitches, whereas you point out the negatives as well which are what owners really want to know and need to be aware of

FYI... you can save to an SD-Card from the slicer... With the latest software update you can also save files to the SD-Card while in the printer. There is also a local network functionality.

Came here to say this, you now have three options. Print goes through the cloud as before, Send goes through the cloud and is saved to the SD, Export is saved as a 3mf file to a local device without going through the cloud. Click the arrow next to print plate to see these options.

mine will not save to sd card while In printer I can send 1 file there but if send second one deletes first and after print it's gone also

@@jamesharris9894 Save your project, so you will get a filename to save! Though there ist a dialog to change the filename in the send procedure it's not used (mybe a bug), the project name is used as filename.

Great video with some minor errors but I think others have addressed it. This has been one of the most in depth videos I have seen so "geek up" the great work. I have been printing on the X1CC since Aug of 2022 and getting close to 2k hours and this printer is by far the best printer I have used. Ender 3- retired Prusa mk3s+ -$$$ Regrets and retired Ankermake m5(still sitting in sealed box since Dec 2022) X1CC- my go too.

Credit where credit is due, the first implementation for a single nozzle multi color/material printer with a toolhead filament cutter, is from the SMuFF project. It truly is the best method for adding reliability to filament switching type multi color/material printing. Love the breakdown. Keep up the good work man.

At 34:50 you see three green checkmarks, you can unklick them and the printer will skip the step you dont want, like in Bambu Studio. 40:00 If you select 'Send' instead of 'print plate' the file will be send to the SD card that is in the printer. Then you can print it from there.

Just got the P1P. Fantastic review. I didn't think that "filter" would do much. I'm using a HEPA filter and 5 pounds are activated carbon VENTED to the outside when I print ABS. VOC's sink so I have the fan on the bottom of the my enclosure.

I was thinking the same thing and wondering if there were any comments about it. "Glass is half full" is definitely the method of presentation here and the first time I've seen someone spend over an hour doing it. I found myself being agitated by that and I had to watch the video over the course of a few days to keep myself from feeling like I was listening to my mother-in-law talk about the world. However, I couldn't help but appreciate the level of detail and knowledge the presenter has about this printer. I learned quite a lot of things I did not in any other review. I can't believe I'm saying this but I will probably hit that like and subscribe button for future content.

He overthinks things. It’s as though he’s looking for things to criticize as well as praise. The 50c temp where the electronics is, is an example. 50c is a pretty much standard temp for electronics and shouldn’t prove a problem.

Long video with a lot of speculation rather than answers. Why not get Bambu Lab engineer on your channel to explain. I think you ate clearly missing some key engineering design principles and mentioning changes that are not needed like complicating the bed design on a printer that does perfect first layers always. To do what you suggest with “simply” more steppers doesn’t consider the frame design and space to accommodate let alone additional wiring and main board changes. All in all, without the detail of why they chose the options they did, the speculation is not helpful. I watched half and then the value was lost, sorry, hope this helps your thinking on delivering in future…

This is a great video. Rarely do I see such a solid review from a mechanical design, manufacturing and engineering perspective. We need more high guality content like this on youtube, not just some "copy-paste" type unboxing video. By the way, glad to see someone talking about concerns about Chinese tech companies, its not politics but information security, everyone should pay more attention to it.

Some minor updates on the issues you shared in this video: - You can now use a LAN-only mode if you don't want to use the cloud. - You can now enable a 'print cache' option that will automatically save any print you send to the printer wirelessly and have it store them on the SD card for repeat prints, which shows up as a 3rd tab on the model selection screen. - 50:34 While discussing the airflow over the mainboard you seemed to have missed the dedicated fan that is visible to the right of it, which draws in fresh air from the side panel. - Some more power-user settings, such as manually setting flow rates and K values for a given filament, have been added to Bambu studio in software updates. Bambu also now sells their own adhesive liquid from their store, $16.99 for 60ml so still not cheap, but comes with a nice applicator so you generally only use a very, very small amount, no spray bottle.

You have to connect to the cloud at some point to update firmware. With the amount of fixes and enhancements they've made since release, this is essential, and using LAN only mode forever is not a real option

Well done. One of my favorite videos. Owning one of these the biggest changes I hope they iterate: 1) Cut the startup time when you are doing back to back prints (the 8 minutes of overhead even when you uncheck the options kills me). 2) Seal off the electronics from the bed and put a heater inside, 110 degree chamber would be very nice for no ABS warp. 3) The door, it is an accident waiting to happen. You managed to pick up these same points. Fun watching someone else take the risk of partially dismantling it.

This is the best test I've seen so far. My greatest respect for that. Nicely explained, a deeper look into the machine and very factual. Many complaints about the printer come from the fact that it's not that easy to repair. And I think that's where the problem lies. This printer is for the end customer market and end customers do not want to repair anything themselves, they want it to work. And based on that and what I've seen so far, Bambulabs has done a good job.

It also helps to be able to see it from the perspective of someone I know has experienced other printers. I still like my prusa 😆 but generally agree with your take on things so that helps me know if I'm going to like something or not based on your review.

Great video! Few things come to mind. 12:50 Lidar implementation is nothing new to 3d printing or CNC, i use one from Keyence to check weld on the fly on welding machine. The problem is cost vs functionality, It can be useful but it does not add much to print quality, thats why i think nobody would implement them in 3D printer. Dji drones usually use proximity sensors and camera vision not Lidar. 16:55 The 3 lead screw cost is not only 5$ for stepper motor, it add complexity to motherboard and some to firmware, add extra stepper motor driver for like 5$ each, wires and connectors, plus mounting motor on each lead screw without timing belt would add much height to printer (motor height plus clutch). 19:40 Adding stepper motors to front would not only bump the front but also sides to wrap frame around motors. Belt path on sides is pretty close to frame and motor would not fit easily i think. Adding the extra pulleys not only wrap belt around motor shaft but motors can be moved inside frame. pretty smart solution i think. I have mixed feeling about this machine. Hardware is excellent. The cloud or bambu login, slicer.. and closed firmware that can send whatever data to cloud, no active heating chamber even the printer is fully closed is not that great.

I agree with you, i have a Dji drone as well and it uses sensors as well, but i haven’t found any other printers that have this capability, unless i haven’t looked hard enough, are you comparing this printer to another printer, if so what, i’m looking for another 3d printer after having bad luck with creality printers.

I've had mine for a week. It is amazing. No tinkering, just printing. FAST. BTW, you have to remove the plastic film from the AMS feet. It will not slip with rubber on glass. Also, you can save sliced and painted models by exporting from Bambu Lab Studio.

Not sure if anyone suggested it yet but if you add filament start gcode for ABS specifically to turn on the chamber fan to 30%, it reduces the ABS odor to almost none. Chage the filament stop gcode set to turn off the fan as well.

Regarding heat damage to the principal control circuit, (at 50.40) I think the idea is to draw ambient/cool external air into the enclosure - past the circuit, by creating negative pressure - via an exhaust fan. The perf's on the case back may also suggest this approach. If this is the case, by adding a temp. sensor in the control area you may experiment with more insulation? - Thank you for your thorough review! Very good!

That offset cooling style I first saw a year or so ago by Pro3D's video: "fan duct design optimizing by CFD | 3D printer toolhead design | the Triquetra" He had that offset/non-symentrical design pretty similar in concept, though different implementation. Really cool video looking at that. :)

I like that single Z motor. So much simpler and everything synced on all lead screws. No need for a 3 motors and more complexity. Its actually well designed and thought here. :)

You are correct. It's the K.I.S.S. principle. Added functionality could justify the increased complexity. If slicers were able to use bed tilts in non-planner printing that could justify the added stepper motors. But this is all fantasy. For the current state of affairs, one motor is superior.

The addition of two additional z stepper motors would also mean perfect synchronization and the potential for error. Also, the whole cabinet would have to be taller to accommodate the motors to be installed and concealed under the build space. The existing stepper motor is located behind the rear internal wall above the bottom of the internal floor.

All three separate motors could be located similarly with individual belts going to the individual lead screws.

The gap between belts is due to unique solution. there is no X and Y movements. Instead upper belt moves the head 45° like in infill movement, and the second belt moves the head in another 45°. So most of the time you are printing diagonnaly infill, so only one motor is doing hard job, the second is just adding small steps. In next layer -45 diagonnally, the most work is doing the second motor and the first one just adding small steps.

You can print ASA instead of ABS given how ABS fumes interact with you. Its basically the better version of ABS. Prints without fumes, has same mechanical properties and is even UV resistant for outdoor applications.

For 3 stepper motors for the bed you need 2 additional stepper motors + 2 stepper drivers. Then I've seen them going out of sync, and it can break things. And you don't need them anyway as the bed height is rapidly adjusted as head flies above. So it would only increase price and reduce reliability for no actual difference in the prints. The only reason you may want to do this if you don't want to control bed leveling on the fly and instead just do an initial adjustment before printing. But it means you solve software deficiencies by adding hardware. Also it would not compensate for bed warping so it would still require level adjustment on the fly. Another problem is where would you place motors? If directly under the screws, it would require to increase printer size as there is no free space under the bed or around it. If on the back, where they would not interfere with the bed, it would be quite lame to use 3 belt drives. As Elon Mask said, the best part is no part.

At 1:01:44 that "transformer" looks like possibly a common mode choke. It's wound like a transformer, but it goes into the circuit "sideways". This is for noise and RFI filtering.

1) magnetic sheets exist for a very long time. 2) Lidar checking for fillament deposition is NOT a Chinese invension, you can still find the original creator on youtube explaining and sharing the knowhow, but indeed Bambulab seems to be the first to implement it. 3) The filter idea is good, but it doesn't do much. Its just for the exhausted air, while it should have been to circulate the air inside the printer to absorb toxic fumes. You still get that when you open the door. 4) The Lidar has a laser liner and a camera, the dots is for the camera to know how to scale and interpret distance, since the bed might be 1mm higher or lower and that's critical to determine the height of the first layer. 5) Wait for patents to expire and then the printer will get a great update. Great review.

You can send the g-code from Bambu slicer to the SD card or even through LAN mode Don't have to use their cloud to use the printer

I'm posting this a year after this video was uploaded but I got my X1C about a month ago and have had no issues with it. My only failed print was due to wet filament. Retrying it, without changing any settings and just changing the filaments to one that had been recently dried worked wonders. I actually did my first ABS print today, and I didn't experience any issues with smell. However, I was using ABS-GF from Bambu Lab, so I'm not sure if there's a new formula, if the glass fibers assist, or if the filter has been updated, but basically no fumes. Printer is in my bedroom.

That was an emi inductor where there was mains going into the board. I could send you pictures of them. They're used for common mode rejection and safety as you can see along with the 3 class y rated capacitors.

I subscribed to your channel when you first started it and after a while I stopped watching it because I got a bit of a jaded vibe coming off of you towards other content makers. I think this was because while I have a bit of an engineering background I look at 3D printers from more of an enthusiast perspective which a lot of other channels cater to. However the one thing I did take away from most of your videos is your engineering and design analysis instead of just touting all the little gizmos and shining things companies were adding to the printers. The video sends me on a complete 180 on your channel. You really did a great job looking at all off the aspects of the printer, pointing out its merits as well as flaws from the engineering point of view as well as your cyber security concerns about this product. NO OTHER CHANNEL has even brought this up! Excellent work. I am surprised that one of the big channels out there hasn't scooped you up and brought you onboard like Linus Tech Tips or someone.

The carbon filter is for VOCs when printing ABS, ASA, etc. Also when putting the plate back on the bed you just touch down the two back corners so they are positioned in between the gray plastic guides then slide back till they hit the rear guides then lower the plate down to the bed. They won't go over the guides if using the proper technique to place the plate.

Do you actually own one of these? Your description of how to put the plate down wouldn't work. There's a center portion that pops out. Also the corners of the plate are rounded so they wouldn't index on the side guides.

@@DesignPrototypeTest Yes I own 2 of them. Maybe you're not understanding my description. The two side guides have contours so you can drop the back corner of the plate down next to the guide at the bed surface while holding the front up so you are not fighting the magnetic force of the bed and then push the plate back against the stops in the back. The rounded plate corners easily slide along the contour of the side guides and center the plate for you. I've done this hundreds of times. If this doesn't make sense, maybe a video would help. Also you're not correct on the cloud. You can use LAN only mode or print from SD card. In Bambu Stuido you can just hit the drop down arrow next to print plate and export to and SD card. You can now reprint from SD card from printer too as of last firmware update. Just FYI so you can do a follow up video correcting some of the misinformation you have in this one.

Brilliant review. I bought mine for AU$2,250.00 as I am in Australia, and I am yet to unbox it. It arrived in 3 days and came with the AMS inside. I am moving house soon, so loathe to unbox it until then. The quality looks amazing, and I am so excited.

Great analysis! Thank you! Keep this series going. I was a little disappointed that you did not dismantle the bed further. You promised a destructive disassembly 😊. Seeing Nylon warping was priceless. Nothing can resist shrink forces. I had several glass and carbon fiber beds destroyed.

I took the bed apart. It’s nice, it has thermostat switch to cut off power at 160C as a safety mechanism. And 3 force sensors, 1 in each lead screw joint

if you look at the bill of parts on this printer its pretty inexpensive but well put together. What is a game changer is the LIDAR.

Graphite lubricant was used in enclosed system even in the old day. My father is mechanic and I also learnt its lubricant effect in chemistry lesson

About cloud printing: That’s not mandatory, the current version of the slicer (and I think the one prior) have a LAN-only mode. I haven’t used it, so don’t know if you lose any functionality in the process, but you definitely aren’t forced to use the Chinese-operated cloud if you don’t want to 👍😁 Also, there is a “Load” button for filament, at least if you’re using the AMS. I don’t know if it purges the previous filament or not, but it always poops out some filament at the start of each print anyway.

It looks good, but I'm still making a Voron. I cannot get behind their closed source ecosystem. The 3D printing community and being able to freely exchange ideas/designs is what I love about this hobby.

The x1 reminds me of how people that had a photo/video hobby would get a DJI phantom to make content. The Phantom had a similar reaction from people who’s hobby was the drone. They wanted to build and mod. That’s not what the phantom was. But for others, it was just a tool to expand a different hobby or business. And it got the job done without needing to devote time into learning another hobby just to get some practical use out of it. That said, room for everyone. Vorons look amazing! Enjoy your build!

Keep building with no regrets, I bought a Bambu Carbon with the AMS system. I will be making a video for KZfaq shortly of me throwing the AMS system off a very tall building to at least relieve some of my frustration with it.

Another point about the bed. From a cursory look at the PCB I think it's actually running rectified DC, not AC. This is probably done for end user safety. Better to have a burn than electrocution.

One of the best videos ive seen from this channel, and probably the best deep dive I've seen on this machine. It's crazy how much tech they've managed to package into such a tight form factor. 19:15 also there is a separate camera in the toolhead to do first layer scans, and probably for that calibration board.

It still has room for improvement too, even with how great it is. They didn't seem to use highflow nozzles and there are people putting high-flow nozzles on them and getting better quality at faster speeds.

I enjoyed finally seeing a teardown for this printer, thanks for putting this together. Here are some tips for future videos coming from a mech eng PHD, some of your incorrect technical explanations for some sections were a hard watch, for example trying to explain the lidar sensor and how it "uses a camera to detect lasers". Also, your rant about the stepper controller board having improper cooling. Those components with the heat sinks get substantially hotter than the ambient temperature in the enclosure, and the little fan keeps a steady stream of air passing the heat sinks which will cool the components with the temperature gradient just fine. The best solution would be to have it in a thermally isolated section of the printer entirely and pull in air outside of the machine to allow for a higher temp gradient, but given the relatively low temperatures that this printer can handle, it should experience no issues over time. Also, keeping the z axis controlled by 1 stepper motor is a far better design choice than separate motors, for many purposes, complexity, additional components such as motors and stepper drivers, and then avoiding motor syncing issues (getting 3 cheap steppers to consistently work exactly in unison is difficult). This can guarantee that the bed will be true level and any small inaccuracies can easily be compensated with software, hearing "it would be cool" was a bit annoying and definitely shows lack of engineering design understanding. Overall, I think it would help out your technical credibility if you didn't state some of these things as facts and left some opinions as open ended to get feedback from the community.

MAN OH MAN! What great detail! Im a mechanical engineering student and you really tickled all my concerns in investing in this 3D printer, which is a good and bad thing. As I am a student, Im worried about investing all my hard earned money in this printer(mentions on the longevity - for example: the circuit board placement), but I also know all the great things I can do with this printer. So Im a litte torn on buying this shiny bad boy. I would to hear your recommendation for someone who doesn't have much money to throw around. Thank you for your effort and great quality for information and dismantling skills! :)

As a mechanical engineering student with knowledge and skills, I think you would be best serve, practicing. Flex those muscles man! Build your own printer. Or at least heavily modify one. Are you following Dr. D. Flow? There are so many options for you. You could start cheap like REALLY cheap. You can find used Ender 3s for around $100 dollars these days. Put a filament run out switch and a bed probe and you're as good as a Prusa. You can print anything you realistically would need. Not as quickly as the Bambu but you can then move on to more grown-up projects like a CNC router or a CNC plasma cutter.

I have been worried about burning my house down with these kinds of projects😂 but it is time I get into modifying, other than just building a house for the 3D printer. I must say I was really captivated by the pure beauty of the bambu. It's just such a high tech machine. But time is on my side, so maybe modifying something can prove more useful. You can send your sliced file to the SD card by selecting SEND or SEND ALL from print dialog in the slicer.

I forgot who said it. There should be a code that turns the chamber fan on for 10-15 minutes after an ABS print so it will push the VOC’s through the filter. The stickers suck. Under the sticker on cool plate is the same pei as engineering side. So before I had a textured plate just printed on cool plate with everything. Haven’t used the nylon they sent yet.

after hundreds of multi-positioned prints, we have never used any glue on the buildplate. Our last printer was the FL Sun delta printer and used a PEI build sheet also never using any adhesives after thousands of prints with no failure. Using a cheap filament ($15) ended up with various adhesion failures even though we feed from a drier.

21:43 I think the big fan isn’t only for better cooling but for better heat distribution and more heat in the build chamber when printing with closed doors for high temp material. I uses a similar mod for my Voron. It adds around 10c in the chamber.

I'll take an enclosed core X/Y as the dominate design over a bedslinger any day. So even if the whole industry copies the X1 design, that's a big movement forward.

Calibration can be skipped on the machine. Click the small green check boxes that are the same as the slicer.

To send to the SD Card in the printer don't use "Print plate" use "Send" instead AND if you want to use a local SD card inserted in your computer and use "Export plate"

I'm very late to this video but regarding the nano polymer adhesives - most of these fancy liquid adhesives that work with glass build plates and everything else, are nothing more than siloxane primers the same as any glass firm will use for bonding windows in. You can get a litre of the stuff for the same price as the tiny bottle most 3D print specialists charge for 100ml

1:07:21. I think you should go study DJi's early days. They started out building all the features everyone wanted into a drone, based off of mostly out of the catalog parts, and iterated on really zeroing into a core audience of aerial cinematography, before they started pushing the innovation envelope, beyond just assembling and polishing the best ideas that were floating around. I think Bambu is taking the same playbook. I'm sure they will continue to push the desktop FDM world forward, just as DJI has with robotic cinematography. For a first offering, this is seriously impressive, and I think it bodes well for future offerings.

for the printing plate, bring it in on an angle at the back of 30-40 degrees, lineup the brackets and back edge with the plate then bring the rest of it down. Works almost every time.
