Asador Alfonso is a home first and foremost and a restaurant second. Designed by Carlo Calma Consultancy Inc for the Calma family in Alfonso, Cavite, the structure's geometric flow is inspired by Taal volcano nearby. The pavilion in the center is the cone of the volcano while the roofscape seems to be the lava flowing out the crater.
Cantilevered folds - with some ranging from 8-10 meters - help shield the space from the harsh sun and rain, while some help frame the rural landscape into a picturesque view. Calma's work is highly conceptual and immersed in the land that it sits on, taking into account the surrounding environment and nature.
The tiles used in the villas and also around the pool were made from recycled plastic bottles. This project alone recylcled 4 tonnes or 600,000 plastic bottles.
The project was recently awarded a Red Award in the Placemaking division for Good Design Awards Philippines 2024.
