I have been fortunate to travel many places in my life, but few compare to the experience of traveling in the north. You can take a cruise, or fly in and rent a car, but driving to Alaska through Canada is really the best way. The road conditions are very poor, but traffic doesn't exist. Services and emanates are incredibly limited, but the views are pristine and untouched. The drive from Anchorage to Tok should have been about seven or eight hours, but for me it was three days. I couldn't seem to drive more than ten minutes without stopping to film or fly the drone, and I am so excited to share that experience with all of you.
Alaska has been such an amazing experience for me in the Motorhome. Due to breakdowns and timing, I haven't been able to see as much as I hoped, but what I found far surpassed what I expected. Even just in Whittier alone we found so many amazing places, and the wilderness hot tub was just icing on the cake. My final week in Whittier, I started to see hints of the fall colours, but I had no idea what was waiting for me on the other side of the tunnel. I think I put more flight time on the drone in those three days than ever before. Leaving Whittier, I knew I had a lot of miles to cover, but I didn't expect to find an abandoned lodge or a ghost town.
Bear Flats Lodge, was a real surprise to find, and a delight to explore, but it is sad to see a place surrounded with so much beauty but left to rot. Continuing south from the lodge, I was very happy to see on the map, Silver City. This is a location that has been on my radar since last summer. Neither of these locations were a planned stop, because originally I was planning to take the Top of the World Highway again to experience the fall colours, but it is now closed until spring. Lucky for me, the rout through Haines Junction is nearly as beautiful, and full of great adventures. I wish I had planned ahead, and researched more of Silver City, but that is the reality of remote travel.

Silver City was the end of the road back in the early 1920s! Went by boat from there. There was a gold stick that really didn't pan out! The pens were left over from a fox farm operation! It's all privately owned and was going to be restored 50 yrs. ago but that never happened!

The truck is an International Harvester. They made heavy duty trucks under that name until the 70’s until they dropped the Harvester part. They make heavy duty trucks under the “International” name to this day. One of the coolest vehicles they made was the “Scout”. The chicken wire building very likely for egg laying chickens.

My first time there was in 1966 at the age of 10. We were there with an Airstream caravan for a couple of days. Near the shore of Kluane lake was what I assume was an icehouse since there was saw dust piled in it. While there I swam in those frigid waters (something only a kid would do). Went back with wife and kids in 05, great memories. Thanks for sharing with us

Hey Dustin, I happen to know a little about that truck. It appears to be an early 60s International Harvester, I'm guessing it's from the loadstar series. Looks to have a 392ci V8, possibly a 345. It has a wrecker on the back, but they turned these things into everything, from ambulances to fire trucks, dump beds to school buses. I happen to own a 1969 loadstar with a dump bed, and can haul 5 yards of gravel, even though it's only registered as a pickup. They are very tough, reliable trucks. I've got a video of my 1969 International Travelette on my channel, but have been meaning to post one featuring my loadstar in action. Just thought I would share what I know. Another great video. I have lived in Alaska my whole life, grown up driving these same roads, but have never seen it portrayed so beautifully. You really have a knack for bringing out the best in a place. Hope you have a pleasant trip home, and come back soon!

Another great one brother. You're good at what you do. Maybe sometime when you're stuck in the moho for a few days due to weather or whatever you can research Silver City (and the Bear Flats Lodge too please) and do a re-release of this video with a history lesson included. Places and things are great to look at, but it's the history lessons that give your videos their third dimension. I spread the word about Destination Adventure, because it's good and I think people would enjoy it.

From your drone footage of the incredible countryside to the music you use, you have done it again Dustin, this was one epic adventure. Love the "hot tub" in the middle of nowhere. This remind me of my childhood in Hawaii, on the island I am from, we use to go to a cabin on the mountain and use something similar called a furo, essentially a bath. It was always great use after a long horse ride to the cabin. I love your style of narration and that you go to off the beaten path places. When I travel with my family, we do the same. I share your channel out to all my friends and family. Looking forward to your next adventure. Be well and enjoy the journey.

About a 1963 0r 64 International Harvester. They made Farm equipment, wagons, plows, harrows and mowing machines prior to building trucks. They had a vehicle in the 60s' and 70s' called the "Scout" (About the size of the original Ford Bronco). It had the only 4 cylinder engine ever built incapable of getting 8 mpg. They also built over the road tractors and most famously their farm tractors... I can't get over the quality of your videos, you are the master of KZfaq.

You seriously need to get a job with the Discovery Channel or something similar, your interpretations via cinematography, presenting, editing, music, and more are just spectacular, it is so difficult to capture the beauty of a place in such a wonderful and emotionally captivating way, yet that is your strength. Kudos to you yet again. There are many comments that you should have many more subscribers and I agree. So many reactors sit in a chair reacting to songs or videos and have a million subscribers. Great video. I used to pass through the Silver City ruins on my prospecting trips in the early 2010's. I never had alot of time for exploring so it's great to see what you have discovered. I definitely remember that old truck though. Cool. Silver City was an old supply hub for prospective gold and copper deposits nearby and across Kluane Lake back in the early 1900's. The strange thing is there weren't any known silver deposits nearby. The place was not really a city so to speak. It had a mining recorders office for a few years, a roadhouse, post office, probably a store and a few miners dwellings. The large buildings are warehouse's and the ones with the chicken wire are fox pens from a fox farm. Many were located in rural Yukon locations in the 1930's. Thanks again for sharing your explorations with all of us. 😊
