For real lmfao, that's probably the most visceral, primal rage that has ever been seen in Destiny history, and it absolutely fuckin shook me on my first Excision run

It knew it was on the verge of its death. We prevented the final shape in the raid and its escape to live severed its connection to the traveler. That’s why the raids description is “free the traveler” once we enter excision this is just us finishing it off, there is no winning here for it. The entire of sol is preventing its escape and its left in a final stand against 12 guardians

Right? I jumped into Excision right as it dropped and ended up getting that line. All that calm up until that point and I hear that SCREAM right before damage phase, gave me chills!

Definitely an amazing line but it still doesn't beat "you are unworthy of salvation!"

It thought of itself a god and unkillable to brings it seen as lessers.

What's more impressive: it's all just *one* voice actor.

I personally much prefer the duet of male and female in the Witch Queen-Lightfall. He went a bit too comically evil in TFS

Funny you make the comparison between The Witness and Unicron, you're not off base. Couple years ago, folks in the TF fandom found the 1st draft for the 86 Transformers movie. In it, Unicron was still the final villain but his exact nature was a reveal for late in the movie. Instead of talking directly to Unicron, Megatron instead interacts with a being called "The Entity" that claims to be the caretaker of planet Unicron. I the 1st draft, it's The Entity that upgrades Megatron into Galvatron and sends him to earth to destroy the Autobots and harvest energy so that planet Unicron can break free of its current orbit and roam the universe to devour planets. Ever since details of this original draft of the movie came out, I've imagined what that version of the film would've looked like and in my head I hear The Entity speak with the same voice and cadence as The Witness.

We are essentially fighting an ideology given form and will.

That's why the witness refers himself in excision as the edge that carved porpuse into being

it was not "left alone" by the traveler, the traveler gave its people everything they wanted and they still craved something directly telling them what to do. to achieve this, they found the veil and began to dig around the traveler's guts the way the witness is doing it in tfs. the traveler left because it wouldn't allow them to hit the off switch on reality, i'd hardly call the witness or its people "wronged" by the traveler when the worst thing it did was just not say anything.

it wasn't alone in its' ideas. rhulk so far is the only one who was close enough with them and shared their concept of the final shape and so on (i kinda feel they had an enough-friendly dynamic, cause of votd's armor lore tabs). but he died, so... if rhulk was still alive, he'd definetely stay till the end but yes, it's kind of sad to think about, honestly i can understand both the traveler and humanity's point and the witness's point in the plot

I really think the Witness was executed pretty well as a villain. It has this aura of being calm, collected, entirely set in its purpose-- but under the surface, it is primal anger, forged from an existential crisis of an entire species and whose worst elements sought apotheosis. It has never once argued its philosophy, or its certainty that it is right. It is not a being, but a weapon powered by aeons of malice, inflicting the very suffering and abuse that it claims the Traveler brings. If it was capable of self-reflection, we could call it a hypocrite.

@@BoisegangGaming Yeah, I do however feel that the Witness wasn't given enough time to shine in Lightfall, because of that it seems they barely introduce the villain and its kinda rushed into the finale. Given the scale of the villain and the impact it warranted a bit more time.

Because 'We' (Guardians) make our own fate.

It never wanted us to be its friend. It promises salvation with decorated words and those became more desperate as it is unable to feel doubt thats why it says what it does, but it could felt fear. What it sees as salvation and what that is to us differ. Just because I keep saying words that make you feel good while taking away the things you value one by one doesnt make me somebody you feel inclined to make a friend of. "We are not your friend, we are not your enemy, we are your...salvation"

Just a personal theory as to why, but I think it's cause one of the precursors (or a few) took charge when some of the dissenters were shattered.

This is his voice when he transforms into his big form. Before that, his voice is the same as it's always been.

In the first cutscene (the one with the apple kid) it sounds pretty much the same as Lightfall. I assume, as we progress further and further into thwarting the Final Shape it gets less and less collected. Also, as we release dissenters, its voice becomes less "crowded" and more defined, less whispers in it. You simply hear its later phase voice more often replaying endgame content so it may feel like it's different.

I think there is but I haven't played the game in French. I might eventually though 😅

During the campaign we destroyed several of the main voices that it speaks with, after which it loses the layered voice.

@@AstridTheBee that's what I thought too. But right after we injure it in the campaign, it speaks in many voices again in the cutscene immediately after. And even before then, it seems to speak in a single voice when it's angry

​@@cooper8413 it's most likely there's a leading member in it's collection of minds. With the most aggressive and primal of their voices being the strongest with it's ultimate form.

It seems as though the masculine voice is the "main" voice and it comes through when it's rattled. When it offers "godhood" to us as a Disciple and Ghost mocks the idea, the masculine voice immediately drowns out the usual echoed voice.
