I think Bungie tried to see if Destiny would have success as a game and with that didn't invest too much in a uncertain return (for the first game). Seeing D1's mega success, they invested.

@@cardaroy3556I played since D1Y1, I remember the Hype, the hope, the disappointment for this game. I played Vanilla D2 and I actually liked it way more than D1... but when after 2 weeks there was nothing to do, I understood that there was something wrong lol. I don’t know when you stopped playing, but D2Y1 is the lowest point of this franchise, right there with D1Y1. Things have DRASTICALLY changed with Forsaken, back in 2018 (just like D1 changed with TTK). It’s a totally different game now. Sure there are still some major flaws (for example, the PvP doesn’t receive an update since... I don’t know, a year maybe), but overall the franchise is in a much, MUCH better place now. Like, it’s an actually good game and a good looter, unlike D2Vanilla... Imo the biggest improvement is in the story... which is actually good now, and that’s almost a miracle considering the disaster of D1 and D2 in this regards lol
