Pittsburgh bike paths have a lot of those raised cracks. They paved the trails many years ago have not done anything with them since. I don't ride them anymore because of them.

How does a little bump like that “eat” bicycle tires? I’m just puzzled since it’s such a minor trail bump.

A lot of people have too little air their tires. "Bottoming out" the tire on a narrow bump can cause a puncture. (It would eat tubes not tires, if that was your point.)

@@HweolRidda I guess man, but if your tires are that low you’ve got other issues too. I just mean, tubeless, or with tubes, that’s a bump that should cause not one single problem for any bike that isn’t using the most fragile of road bike tires, which I wouldn’t expect to see much of on a city bike trail.

The camera doesn't show the depth very well. This bump was about the height of a street curb. We got a pinch flat on our trailer a couple of weeks ago even with going over it slowly.

@@mountvernontrail I've seen cracks like that get what I call a Polish Repair where they dig out the worst portion and them just put grave in it and leave it. Not a good repair.
