The destroying angel (Amanita bisporigera and its cousins) is fairly common, and it's one of the most toxic organisms on Earth. Knowing how to ID it may well save your life.

Great video Cliff, an article I had seen last year talked about the increased interest in foraging these days. They emphasized the point that with many new foragers, we will see accidental poisoning rates rise. By first learning what can hurt you, folks can greatly reduce these incidents

We are definitely going to see rises in poisonings, also due to increasing reliance on identification apps which are far from reliable.

Thanks man. I was %90 sure I found a amanita vaginata. The veil with white gills. Barely slight pink on the bottom of the gills. Paper thin. The vulva is almost identical. Also the pileas/them has the shaggy stuff. 😂 while commenting i found another amanita. It's yellow.

I will pick and consume half a dozen species that I can positively identify, the rest are a no-no, and anything with white gills stays in the field.

Don't miss the opportunity to try pine mushrooms though (Tricholoma magnivelare)! Once you've had one in your hand, and smelled it, you'll never mistake it.

Where do these grow? USA Euro Asia??

A number of Amanita species go by the common name "destroying angel". They are found throughout Europe and North America. Similarly deadly Amanitas are doubtless in Asia, though they might not share the same common name.

Destroying angels scare me off of every trying a Ma'am on Motorcycle. I had these all over my yard one year, and thought they were destroying angels, until I picked a couple and had a proper inspection. Even so, the similarities between the two are just too close for my comfort. I already forage for a huge variety of mushrooms, and I think I'll just leave Ma'am on Motorcycle off of my list, as well as all amanitas, even though there are a few edible species. There's simply no need to mess around with any "iffy" mushrooms.

"One piece will kill you"..... Come on man, no need to lie for shock value. Pretty unlikely that that small of an amount would kill someone and they would have to eat it in the first place.

I ate about a 6'th of a button of 1 that hadn't opened up from that flask under the gills, today is my 3rd day Monday morning from 7:30 Friday morning, been taking activated charcoal, since Saturday morning. Took 2 capsules as soon as I bought it, and been taking a capsule every 12 hours since! I test gravely mowers here in Florida, I'm doing OK! Was my first time ever to give a damn bout wanting to munch on mushrooms from the wild, and so far, I hope it's not my last! Did go through diarea Saturday morning, but since the activated charcoal use, I haven't experienced any other symptoms!
