Destruction Derby is a vehicular combat racing video game developed by Reflections Interactive and published by Psygnosis. Based on the sport of demolition derby, the game tasks the player with racing and destroying cars to score points. The developers implemented simulated physics to make the results of collisions easier to predict, and they kept the game's tracks small to increase the number of wrecks. Versions of Destruction Derby were released for MS-DOS, PlayStation and Sega Saturn. A Nintendo 64 version, Destruction Derby 64, was released in 1999 by Looking Glass Studios and THQ. Critics found Destruction Derby enjoyable and they praised its graphics and car damage system, but the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn releases received mixed reviews. It does not work fully on all PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 models due to game save file issues. The game started the Destruction Derby franchise, beginning with its 1996 sequel, Destruction Derby 2.

The bad reviews don't bother me one bit. When I was in the early grades in school, my mom and dad dropped by Blockbuster which was around during that time, rented this game and I immediately got hooked. Car #9 was my preferred vehicle. Later I wanted to own it but soon N64 games were taken out of the stores and my chances of adding it to my collection faded but not the memories of playing countless times on The Junkyard. But fast forward to my birthday in 2012, a store in a nearby city happens to keep a large collection of N64 games in stock. Inside I found the game cartridge which is in almost mint condition, finally fulfilling my years long destiny of owning the game. Good times

Best part of that game was the "Bomb Tag" multiplayer mode.

This game was a part of my child hood. Remember when you had to just pick a game based off the pictures on the box? Simpler times.

I disagree. The main menu music track brings back some awesome nostalgic 64 feelings.

I loved this game. It was my first game in the genre. I had a great time, and loved almost every course. Except Midnight Run, or whatever it's called. The spooky cathedral one. I'd always smash into those huge gates. Seems like an awful thing to put in a race track, very unsafe.

The soundtrack bit was stupid. The soundtrack isn't bad, you just didn't like it.

I loved this game when i was a kid and I still love it to this day its a shame the video game studios these days are trying to pander to the Woke B.S yes there are somethings wrong in this world and yes they need to be addressed but when I play video games I play them to escape and get lost in not to be force fed Woke B.S down my throat not to mention the broken games the studioa are putting out these days its sort of dystopian...

When I was 8, I was at a game store and could choose exactly one game. I had narrowed my choice down to either Destruction Derby 64, or Beetle Adventure Racing. I had never seen either games anywhere else before, and knew nothing of either one. I will say that I chose DD64, and to this day, I still have the cartridge and feel that I made the right choice.
