Your videos on electrics are just so damn easily explained to understand. You explain everything in a way how to safely achieve something without feeling like you need a 10 year course in electronics to get something simple up and running.

Thankkk you soo much, me and my girlfriend are deciding to join the van life. We are buying and starting it next month! She was scared because she wasn’t sure how to set up the battery, she didn’t even want to do it until I could explain what I learned to her. So thanks for this detailed instructions and for posting it on your blog!

Thank you!!! for this. I’m new to van life and it drives me crazy watching everyone go crazy over inverters and AC outlets. EVERYTHING (almost) in your van life is 12V: your camera batteries, cellphones, laptops, drones, refrigerator, heating system, cooling system, TV, DVD. EVERYTHING. Probably the only exception is toaster or coffee maker. That’s it. Also, the max AC power appliance you can buy is about 1500 watts. 2000 watt inverter is more than enough for your one (maybe two) occasion use AC appliances.

I'm looking at the same inverter (except for the 110v version) My suggestion would be to take the fuse out and replace it with an in-line Circuit breaker. It's easier to reset a breaker than trying to find a new fuse in case something happens. Cheers from the USA. Awesome Video!

Hi John, love your posts. New to motor homing and am looking into inverters. This has great reviews but as someone else has asked can you confirm that the Krieger models 1100,1500 & 2000W are actually pure sine wave because all the spec sheets etc for these models say they are modified sine wave. There are however excellent reviews out there. Would be great if you could clarify.

Just a quick question on you explaining how not to wire dual batteries. Surely it makes no difference either way you wire it up as electricy always travels the path of lease resistance so how you wired it your closest battery is going to take the initial load because current is going to run from earth (chassis/ground) across to you closest battery which has the live terminal linked up has the thick wire (earth lead) has less resistance than the battery. Therfore either way is the right way. I'm not knocking you I love you channel I'm just trying to work it out in my head
@johnmandy
@johnmandy 5 жыл бұрын
Electricity travels from 1 electrode to the other, negative to positive. So it’s crucial how it’s wired to get the flow through the battery bank. It makes a huge difference, if you don’t believe me you can google how Tesla wire up their batteries 👍🏼

Nice bit of kit that inverter bud 👌👍, the cheap inverters seem to kill batteries too! Nor do they last ! ( I wouldn't class myself as a heavy user of power ). 3 inverters in 5 years in my old "works van" ( one nearly caught on fire ! ), and 3 batteries later ! X that by 200 engineers if they too had the same problem as me 🤔, Now in my "new works van" and inverter No 4 🙄! Well I haven't bothered using it, I just rely on USB ports now mate. And kept the expensive ( ironically 👋🤪👋) german built split charger ( from the old works van ) for the "Gentlemans lounge bus" 🤫😁👌👍👍👍

***PLEASE READ*** Due to some comments on this video I wanted to point out this isn't a product review, so I can't say do this or that as it might be different for other products. I have to be very cautious about what I put in my videos to ensure people don't just do as I do and then not understand what it is they are doing. This is also why I removed links to the products featured as I don't want everyone to just buy this inverter thinking it would be perfect for them, it was bought to power a coffee maker and won't be used for anything else. I also want to point out that using an inverter constantly will drain your batteries and, depending on what you are powering, you might need a solar array to balance your daily inverter demands, and if you have lead based batteries this could mean you significantly reduce their lifetime. This video was 12 days in the making, every detail checked and double checked, however, if you want advice or to ask questions about your own system then please ask me and I'll do my best to answer you.

Hi Gadget John on tour, many thanks for your reply its very kind and I understand regarding recommendations, I only ask as I have just bought a 3KW inverter and seen that people earth them to the chassis, just doesn't sound safe as its metal and conductive and in easy contact
@johnmandy
@johnmandy 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, but in truth the earth would be via the negative of your battery bank which in turn should be connected to your vehicle chassis.

Hi, I,ve been looking at converting my caravan to be electrically self sufficient and I wanted to say that I found your video "Detailed 12v inverter & battery wiring guide" the most informative. I understood everything you said about a dirty sine wave and why it needs to be pure: with a dirty wave you're basically converting a DC signal into a sine wave with out a smoothing circuit. I still have lots of questions like the size of solar panel (s) required to recharge the batteies and how best to fit these to the roof of my van, not to mention working out how much power I would actually use in a typical day. Kind regards Steve

Hi John. A big thanks for being available for us. You have a genuine way with you when presenting your material. I have a question I’m hoping you can help me with. The big thing for us, in the motorhome is not a coffee machine lol, but being able to have constant use of two laptops for creative and business purposes. I’m having difficulty in finding a suitable 12v adapter that can fully charge laptops while using. As a result I thought the only way forward is an inverter. However I thought you might help. The laptops are Dell XPS 15 7590 and seem to have a special way of charging. Any suggestions please?

So good! Although, I can’t trust anyone who throws coffee away 🤣🤣🤣 I’m glad you explained the battery flow, I’m amazed how many people don’t get that. If you got with three of 4 batteries even that method would still strain the outer batteries slightly more than the inner two. The best solution would be to go back to a positive and negative terminal with same length leads... Great work..

As electricity flows it means all batteries share the same load when wire this way. 2 batteries or 200 batteries, the principle is identical.

Hi there very well explained and helpful video. I have the same brand inverter but its 1500w. I have a question does the inverter get damaged if stays under no load? Or is there a minimum load that it needs to be on the inverter. My electrician installed the inverter and said do not switch it on if is under no load. Is it a problem if its switched on and there is a small load lets say around 150w. Thanks for the video looking forward for your answer :)
