Detailed RESTORATION of a Mid Century Modern Dresser

2 жыл бұрын

I picked up a Stanley Tall Boy Dresser from Facebook Marketplace for $180. I was on the verge of buying a West Elm dresser that was $1,599 at the time, so spending $180 instead of $1,599 was more ideal. I restored the Stanley Dresser to a more brown space and did not paint anything during this restoration. I used several different techniques in this video, and there are several others that could be used. Hope you enjoy the restoration!

--Original Poem --
Dear Mr. Stanley
Could you build me a vanity?
Because the quality of this tallboy,
Is far superior than titanium alloy.
Years have taken a beating.
Your Veneer is surely mistreated.
Water ruined your top,
From that ice filled cup someone forgot.
I was tempted by West Elm,
But the prices were out of my realm.
Me, being a forever cheapskate,
Will repair your dents and dings-- Mate.

So great. So happy to see it RESTORED, not someone slapping a coat of white paint on it.

Such a joy to see someone NOT painting a beautiful piece like this. I have even seen some painting mahogany-so sad. Thank you for making this beautiful piece show it’s natural gorgeous grain! New sub!

Absolutely gorgeous. I don't refinish furniture but I enjoy the love and care taken to bring these old ones back to their old glory. Some finishers I watch cut out the veneer repairs as rectangles to get a strong connection between the edges.

This dresser was nicer than the $1600 dollar one before you even got started! No comparison now. My bedroom set is Stanley and I've had it for over 30 years. And it isn't even the same quality as your dresser, good stuff.

I used to own that dresser. It was a hand-me-down from my parents’ original bedroom set that was likely purchased in the 1956/57 timeframe. They had a matching long dresser with a mirror and two nightstands. I sold it on FB Marketplace maybe 5 years ago. When I watched your video I actually looked to see if it had the scratch on the top that I accidentally created when moving the piece up to my first apartment. Your piece had a lot more damage than mine when it left me, but it would have been too funny to stumble upon a piece that I had actually owned. I didn’t see the scratch, so it wasn’t mine but it still was really neat to see you lovingly bring it back to life. I looks beautiful!

Came a cross a random Channel, watched the video & was hooked. The videos have a calming effect on me. Since then I've found so many of you guys doing FANTASTIC projects & everyone's a bit unique in the methods they use. Your sense of humor & editing is very funny!!! I subbed & am looking forward to watching more of your videos. It also warms my heart that I see so many of you guys commenting on each other's videos. Keep up the great content, looking forward to your Channel exploding & Dirty Jersey out!!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching your work, well done! I think that gel paint and stain remover is much more forgiving than sanding. Just a dab of the used stuff on those more stubborn spots will do wonders. It could save your arms, less sanding the better. If you think you need another pass with "fresh" stripper, why not? Then it is just "knocking down" the grain that has been raised from the moisture. I look forward to viewing more of your content.
