Depends on what kind of car, electric hard tops are heavy, don't want that in a miata, soft tops are awesome, midnight drive home with the roof down kills.

I think something like a spin brush is an overkill for any soft tops. Just a regular horse hair brush, by hand, I'm already getting a lot of foam from the cleaner I use.

Pressure washing a ragtop is the absolute best way to ruin it... No problem with the "white (soft bristles)" drill brush but gentle rinse ONLY.

It's a 45° nozzle that you could literally put your hand in front of even on high psi pressure washers.

You're supposed to flood the soft top, but pressure wash it... And be softer on the drill brush... No a lot of cleaning power needed to clean a soft top.. even just flooding it after spraying chemicals on it will do the trick...

That should never be done. The soft top will never recover and the soap will never come throughly out. You would be better off using a rinseless wash and a interior ceramic coating for protection; making it easier to keep clean.

It looks like that because they're not cheap brushes. I noticed mine flexed more once I got more expensive brush heads. The cheaper ones you'd have to put a ton of weight into to get that type of flex in the bristles.

The vinyl tops were one of the stupidest gimmicks thrown at the consumers. They were rust attractors. I had vinyl on my 1972 Monte Carlo. When the vinyl was removed, there were pin holes due to the water getting underneath it. It's one more thing that causes problems, and one more problem that can be avoided. Plus once it was completed, I think it looks cleaner.

Pro Tip- Compressed air is your best friend, let the top dry and hit it with the air at 60 psi at an angle (avoid having the air blower vertical). You'll be able to see when all the dirt is blown off in the air stream, assuming no water is in the air system. Done carefully this will not damage the top seams.

Boss, question. So a soft/ rag top you would treat like a carpet when cleaning? I did my first one 2 months ago and was petrified to introduce too much moisture to the fabric. I communicated to my client that I wouldn’t touch the fabric as I didn’t want to inflict any damage. My apologies for my ignorance, any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I guess he’s not going to respond to you so I’ll help out….. The simple answer is no you do not treat convertible tops like carpet….. Convertibles are still automobiles that are designed to be driven outside in the rain…. If they can take a torrential downpour from a heavy thunderstorm, they can certainly take whatever amount of water you are spraying on them to clean them…. The main thing you need to look out for is being careful using pressure along the edges anywhere where the convertible top fabric meets a seam or trim or the rubber gasket areas because you don’t want to either or force water through those areas which will leak into the vehicle…. Those tops aren’t designed to withstand pressurized water aimed directly into the seams…. Always do a pre-inspection first to document any damage and identify areas where leaks may occur and avoid those areas completely or ensure your client is fully aware of them and won’t hold you liable for anything additional during the detail… So just use common sense and good judgement and you will be fine…

remember, you never need to rub with anything, you only spoil the enamel, you need to wash off the dirt, sand and then rub it with a rag

isnt the white tip with a bigger orifice like super gentle almost hand gentle? Usually also uses less water than a garden hose alone, confused by half the comments. Not all white tip pressure washer nozzles are made equal. Just be gentle, keep a good distance, and use a white tip with a large orifice. If you arent confident dont do the job

Depends on the surface texture. On mine there is dirt that gets in that deep. Normal cleaning doesn't work really. A brush like shown in the video gets it out

Well for starters not all drill attachments are the same some are very stiff and you have offered no guidance. 2nd the brush is ultimately abrasive and the cumulative impact will damage the fibres in the hood. Although you may take care and know what to do if someone else did this and damaged the hood do you honestly think the warranty would cover you if you told the dealer you used power tools to clean it. Now I’m not saying a manual brush or something isn’t needed to help lift out the dirt but common sense isn’t common and some people will make mistakes.

You wouldn’t typically extract a fabric roof, just blow it partially dry then apply a sealant whilst it’s slightly damp 👍
