A couple issues I noticed here that are quite simple fixes: 1. You can’t spray the whole engine like that there are parts that can be broken that way. A. Fix this by disconnecting battery for 20 minutes to ensure there is no power running to the vehicle. (I still would cover important parts like the alternator) 2. You shouldn’t use soap I mean you can but it could make your belt squeak if you use the wrong kind. A. Use water and detail brushes. If cleaning hood liner cover the whole engine even if it is partly covered. Then spray off the top and use Detailing brushes. I learned this all from Chris Fix he has a video called “How to Super Clean your Engine Bay” Highly recommend. Thanks for reading! Edit: I noticed a couple people in the comments saying the engine bay can get wet. A. Yea the engine bay can get wet but there’s a difference between rain and a pressure washer. If you use a pressure washer you are spraying directly on the parts which could cause water to get in whereas rain isn’t directly on the engine and it also isn’t being shot out of a high pressured nozzle.

Disconnect the battery before doing this. Id say not to wet the whole thing. Keep the wires dry and not use pressure washer inside.

Alright everyone out there at no point in time was there any pressure washing happening the soap has no force behind it just coats stuff, he took the sprayer of soap it was just a stream of water, and used compressed air to dry some areas. When it rains or you hit puddles water gets all over your engine. They were designed to work with water on them. Secondly dirt on your engine is not better than this and enough dirt can make heat loss worse and lead to overheating, along with getting in belts, clogging up radiators, dirt and other metals building on batteries and wires, and anything else. There is nothing wrong with this video.

If your spark plugs are exposed and have a crevice that could collect water cover then with a towel and just go in with a detail brush and apc (I’ve seen this cause misfires) If it’s making you worried just cover it with a towel before you spray anything on it.

Engine bays are designed to get wet. If you run trought water pudle or it is just raining, the water will get there. If you use low presure water, engine is cold and batery is disconected, it is just fine. My only concern is the air gun. Is it safe or not? Dosen’t the presure stuff the water past the conector gaskets and stuf like that?

Brother, dry the sockets and connections quickly, otherwise you will cry later

I see these comments every time! I worked at chevy and toyota prodessional detailing shops this is how we did it, in the wash bay at that!

I still can’t bring myself to clean an engine with more than steam and APC. Even though it’s (mostly) fine, it’s designed to be waterproof, I still cant bring myself to do it. Would make my life so much easier though!

I think the ECU and the fusebox are under the washer fluid tank

Some people here have engine bays sealed for life, nothing goes in, nothing goes out...

I wash mine every 4 months. I always make sure the engine is cold and always let it dry before i crank it. This prevents condensation and saves the electronic parts. All the critical connections are waterproof.

If you do this, use plastic bags over the starter and any electric if you can, and use something like wd 40 or wd 40 for electronic to get rid of the moisture and stop corrosion

Been washing my engine once a month for years (not exactly like DW does though) and never, I mean never had an engine problem.

Unless the car is a top end model I'm sceptical of super clean engines when buying a car what ya hiding 👀

Vacuum all the crap from the cowl....but a dirty engine is a happy engine. Road dust ain't gonna hurt it as bad as pressurized water thru vital weatherpack connectors.

All the people complaining about water in the engine bay. Yet I bet anything that they're the type of people who go through deep puddles. Connectors are designed for water exposure. If you're too scared... you're just reflecting the lack of faith you have in your own vehicle.

Much better to use a low pressure nozel like this in my opinion, excellent job. Unfortunately most detailers blast the crap out of engine bays and laugh when people say it's not a good idea.

Any car this new can do this, new cars can handle water just not pressurized water for connections👍

For something that wont be seen the foam and rinse was more than enough.No need for brushing and shining. Shiny shit attracts dust. Most people dont open their hoods until the car breaks down.

Yeah, I'll pass. The pressure isn't gonna hurt anything. Keep it at a distance you'll be fine.

I wouldn't advise doing this if you value the electronics in your vehicle

Iam cleaning engine bays for years (hundreds of cars), and yes with Water, sometimes even pressure washer and NEVER had problem!

I’ve literally pressure washed that exact same engine, I work as a tech at a dealership and it will literally be completely fine unless it has an exposed air filter in which case you put a plastic bag over it

Cover your alternator and take out the battery for that. Everything else should be fine if it’s all sealed like a bag of lays.

If you are going to do this disconnect the battery and remove it if possible and then only use foam cannon to spray and hose to rinse. Them dry it with a leaf blower and then wait for it air dry more. Also cover any exposed wires.

Just use the pressure washer 25-45* to rinse lol. Especially since you’re using the blowgun anyway haha

Is normal car shampoo (Adam’s mega foam) fine to use on a engine bay I always just used a spray bottle of soapy water.

waterless wash and degreaser is the way to go and re oil anything that in oiled up

The day that people will realiaze that rain does in fact enter the engine bay, since the air intake for your AC or hot air is in the upper part of the bonnet, and guess what? It's full of holes. Engines are waterproof, same as pratically everything in the car.

I work for an Audi dealership. I recently purchased an S4. I was at the back parts counter with a handful of technicians and asked “so, anything I should be extra careful with when washing my engine compartment?” I swear, not ONE of those guys didn’t flinch! One asked why would I want to do that (because I’ve always kept my cars engine clean. Clean things last longer, and if I’m under the hood on a regular basis I’ll notice if a leak starts, or if some other thing pops up). They all felt the potential for electrical problems wasn’t worth it being clean.

You can do this from tiMe to time. Some how you have to clean the engine. But not like this every weekend!. The engine heat will dry those connectors anyway.

First step - remove the battery, Second step - cover the alternator.

The car will be fine for a while. That alternator is definitely damage after that though. Don’t come at me with “ i been detailing since the flinstones era I’m a detailer”.

I am sure that all those electrical connectors will appreciate the clean look as well as the moisture that comes with it.

It is difficult to distinguish between areas that can be sprayed with water.

Fastest way to clean the engine bay is dry ice blasting .. takes 15 minutes and there is 0 risk of electrical faults and 0 need to use water/chemicals !!

If u disconnect the battery and let it sit for a bit there would be no electricity running through anything in the car so nothing can short and if u dry it rlly well you will be fine as you see in the video he drys everything
