I'm from Chicago. You mentioned the sink parts you need being from a Chicago company. There is an antique Salvage company in Chicago that is called Salvage One. They have a huge inventory of all kinds of parts. I would suggest you contact them. They may be able to help you out.

👍 Happy Birthday! 🎂 Just a heads-up... _CAUTION:_ *Real Marble* - Unless things have changed, you don't want to use (modern?) _Plumbers Putty_ when mounting faucets and drains to real marble, it is corrosive. Ask around, search, for what is okay to use. ✌

Marble will also suck up what is put on it. I watch another channel where they are building their own home, they bought a marble bathroom sink and were tired that night so they turned the sink upside down on some foam board and went to bed. The next morning they went to install the sink and found out their 3 year old had use markers on the old foam board and the sink soaked up the marker, they were able to get some out but not all so be careful with marble🥰

Remove the old cork/rubber and replace it with a stack of faucet washers. Get a variety and a combo of flat and a conical should work. May need to smooth the seat as well. For the handle, a new packing. Remove the screw from the handle then the packing nut. If you can’t find a packing, they make a graphite impregnated string that gets wrapped around the stem. You got this dude!!!

I can’t wait till next week to see the tile (not necessarily on the floor - just the tile). I had forgotten how pretty that sink and its taps are. Once you get the beadboard up and finished and the floor down, I think the rest’ll just come right together. It’s just around the corner! Hope you had a great day, Birthday Boy, and the wish you made while blowing out your candles comes true!❤

That is the greatest difficulty, finding those tiny little pieces like seals and such for anything from 50 to 100+ years. Interestingly there IS always someone out there who has and or makes serviceable items that you need. The trick is to find them as some do not advertise and only way to find them is word of mouth. Someone who knows someone who knows someone that knows that person. Found this out the hard way with cars. My oldest car is a 1927 TT Murray Body T Model Ford Truck. One of the rarest cars I have is an old Sunbeam Roadster. There is always someone that specialises in something weird and wonderful that most people wouldn't find interesting until they actually need that person's services.

Happy Belated Birthday Kaleb! Can't wait to see the floor tiles! I love the beauty of old things that were made with so much care. I watch another creator who is restoring a 100 year old boat and he says he expects it to take two years to finish the ship. Then when the two years are up, it will be another two years and so on until it's finished. Lol Restoring anything correctly takes time. I'm so glad to be along for the process. I love how excited you are about the house!

Is it wrong I'm excited to see a bathroom get finished? My grandmother lived in a house that was built in the late 1800s in middle Georgia. She did all the things people do, converted the back porch to a bedroom and small bath and added a kitchen (it was the length of the house). Covered the fireplaces and put gas heaters there, etc. She did leave the original bathroom for years and years. I remember in the 60s bathing in the big ole claw foot cast iron bathtub. She had the hanging toilet and even a marble sink. There are marble mines in Georgia so it was actually cheap. Some time in the 80s or 90s she decided to remodel the bathroom and got rid of all the old stuff (including the floor) and made it "modern" with box stuff and a fiberglass shower. Broke my heart. The only original things left in the house when she died was an old table her Daddy made in the late 1800s that had no nails in it, an old pump style singer sewing machine and an old fridge that had the motor on top. Not sure what my aunt did when it all, she sold the house to the church and they tore it down and put a garden there.

Happy Birthday, Kaleb! Amidst all of the destruction in this world, it's wonderful to see someone who cares so much about preserving a home, and giving new life to everything from the house itself to the hinges and brass taps. The satisfaction of a job done well feeds the patience required. One day I will clean up (drips of bright green paint! :( ) and restore the original 1930s 'candle style' wall sconces in our guest room. They go above the Art Deco gum-wood mantle and shallow fireplace that once housed a fancy brass gas heater. The double door closet is huge (gorgeous eucalyptus wood doors, with glass handles), and the floor in one corner shows evidence of a corner cabinet. We think it was an office for the owner/manager of the avocado orchard that used to cover most of our block. Not surprisingly, I love the detective work and thought process underlying both your artistic, and practical decisions. The new tile will be a great present! :)

Use black test tube stoppers to recreate the faucet stoppers. You can drill them for your center hole, and they can be turned on a lathe if you need to change the diameter. Coat them lightly with Vaseline to preserve the rubber, and Bob’s your Uncle.

Van Dyke Restoration is a good source for replica hardware. Routing the bottom of the support wood to fit to the decorative molding is an extra step that would marry them a bit better. It's nice to see the bathroom nearing completion.

Did that tank come with a copper lining? If not, the original ones were copper lined to prevent the water getting into the wood. Anyway, if it does have a lining for it, I would make sure there was some non-wood cover under the wood cover (does it have a cover?). Also the faucets, the "o-rings" look like rubber stoppers. I recommend going to ACE and looking for a stopper that fits that size. Some stoppers already have holes in the middle too (some obviously don't). But try a stopper for a replacement.

You'll have a new life in approximately 5 years, once you complete the entire project. Until then, you are taking a five year crash course in woodworking, cabinet making, plumbing, excavation, roofing, flooring, painting, staining, wall papering, and finally evestrophing. BTW, have you noticed anything moving (by itself), strange sounds, like whispering, moving shadows, feelings of dread, or that you're being watched ?

Happy Birthday! I didn't go back and look, but did you put blocking behind the beadboard to screw the oak bracing and wrought iron side brackets? If not, given the weight you should think about removing the beadboard and putting 2x6s or even 2x10s between the studs in that wall. Pocket screws to fasten would be good, too. Of course, if all being screwed into the studs, additional bracing wouldn't be needed.

Hi from Brazil and congratulations on your birthday. I have a few suggestions for the restoration of your fawcet. Once the company that made it isn’t around any longer, you may have to improvise. The hardened plug may be fixed with the plastic cork from a cheaper bottle of wine (don’t use a regular corkscrew to open it up and I suggest you use it to cook, not to drink 😀). Many older fawcets used a sealing method that was a combination of a pin like brass stud and a leather sealant (sorry if I don’t get the correct names for parts). You can once again improvise. If the stud is still ok, all you have to do is get either a piece of round thick leather or a piece of round thick rubber which you can cut up with a die and attach to the stud. One other suggestion goes for the joining of the sink and the beadboard. Althou it may not be period appropriate, use silicone to protect your wood from water damage. Good luck and keep it up!

Happy birthday 🎉. Finding washers for the faucets should not be too hard. The issue you need to look out for are the faucet washer seats. Some seats can be removed, I don't know about yours. If the seats are bad, the faucet will leak regardless of the washers. Replaceable seats come out with a seat wrench, which is cheap.

Don't feel so bad, it took me 6 months to renovate my bathroom (supply chain issues didn't help - at one point I couldn't buy electrical boxes because there were none to be found to buy!!) - took the walls down to the studs, built a linen closet, tiled the floor and shower and added a new sink and toilet. Didn't buy much from the big box stored either. That's the life of a perfectionist, lol!

Looking great! Take those faucet bibs with you to an old fashioned plumbing supply store. Not any of the big names- no Home Depot, Lowes or Ace. The actual plumbing shop should have washers and gaskets for the faucet. Remember when trying to find new ones ( or when making something to replace the old) Those old ones have shrunk and are a little smaller than the ones you'll need.

Hey Caleb - that Dewalt router has an edge guide that will easily allow you to cut a straight groove. You could also run it on a table saw if you have one. Routing as you did it is bound to cause waviness - and increase the likelihood of the router getting away from you as you're working.

On modern slab doors with luan mahogany faces, the special walnut stain cuts the red of the woi$ and gives a medium brown color since your pine will not take stain the way you envision, seal it with thinned shellac then apply the ipswich pine stain and leave to dry. Do not wipe completely off then you can use the special walnut to darken and remove the orange tine. If you have seen the orangish tone of maple furniture from the 1940-50’s, that is Ipswich pine stain.

The taps (faucets) O-rings and stoppers could be machined from polyurethene quite easily. They use the same stuff for automotive suspension bushes, etc.
