The chemical oxygen demand (COD) is a measure of water and wastewater quality. The COD test is often used to monitor the efficiency of a water treatment plant. This is the complete procedure of determination of COD of industrial waste water sample. In this video we used the "Dichromate Mercury Free" method.

In the case that mg/L are not given in the Spectrophotometer, is there another option to calculate how much COD are in a sample with this exact procedure ? Greetings from Mexico

By default, mg/L is set in this spectrophotometer. So you can't change the unit. But if you need your result in any other unit, then you can convert the mg/L result into your unit by yourself. For more details about the unit conversion, take help from Google. Thanks

Very good explanation, My question is: if you have 4 wastewater samples I only need 1 blank solution, insert it first and followed by the rest 4 wastewater samples consecutively right? it doesn't need 4 blank solution am I right?

Which standard bodies you are followed..? As per SOP you are not follow the preheating 150°C of COD reactor.

We didn't make any video for BOD yet. In future, we will develop. For BOD test there are some chemicals to be used.

Chloride correction for saline water, how do you apply it to COD analysis.

For saline water, where the concentration of chloride is above 2000mg/L. The concentration of COD is in thousands as a result of high concentration of chloride. How do you correct that for saline water

@@alaiyagibson839For high concentration, we use High range COD reagent vial. Otherwise Dilution of your sample is needed before conducting the test.

After your dilution, u still gonna include your factor into the calculation. The concentration of your COD will still be high. The concentration of chloride is the major reason for high COD . How do you eliminate that chloride concentration. There is what they called chloride correction for COD analysis where u plot a graph for the chloride correction...... I just need more information on that

I think that’s just so you don’t splash any reagent out of the vial. You pipette at 45 degree and run your sample down the inner wall of the vial and it won’t splash.

We dont know the exact composition of reagent contained in the vial. These vials are specific for COD test only and are commercially available in the market, manufactured by HANNA INSTRUMENT company ltd. If we can collect, we will let you know later the composition of reagents later. Stay with us.
