Name of the Experiment:
Determination of the value of the acceleration due to gravity (g) by means of a compound pendulum.
Theory:
A compound pendulum is a rigid body of arbitrary shape which is capable of oscillating about a horizontal axis passing through it. For small angles of swinging, its motion is simple harmonic with a period given by where I is the pendulum's rotational inertia about the pivot, m is the pendulum's mass, and h is the distance between the pivot and the pendulum's centre of gravity as shown in Fig.
