As a therapist, we know how easy (and subtle) it is for an adult to manipulate a child so they’ll be more accepting, compliant, and feel complicit in being abused. Yet, for some reason, we are completely ignoring how these same factors are influencing kids when it comes to “identity” labels. By trying to force acceptance and open-mindedness we are actually manipulating kids in ways that can confuse them about their own identity and boundaries. The enforcement of “affirming” care by insurance companies, licensing boards, professional ethical standards/organizations, etc, has tied therapists’ hands. We are not allowed to explore how and why this client is facing this struggle. We are only allowed to tell them that they are absolutely correct in identifying the source of the problem as being gender discrepancy and that their only path forward is to transition or else they’ll self delete. There is no other client type on earth that I’m not allowed to explore with, or offer therapy to, or discuss treatment options (including not getting treatment at all), except this client. That’s not fair to the people struggling with these issues. They get to worst mental health treatment… affirmation and abandonment. So how we’re expecting there to be good research about a highly psychological issue when we’ve locked the therapists out of the building is beyond me. Until this environment is changed we will continue to get mostly activist driven research that ignores detransitioners as much as possible, or worse… research by big pharma and surgeons who have significant conflicts of interest. Most of these kids have untreated (and possibly dissociated/repressed) trauma in their lives that have caused the divorce between their sense of self and their sense of belonging in their body/appearance/apparent gender. Their suffering and confusion and gender dysphoria is real… but unless we treat the trauma and heal the psychological damage no amount of surgery or meds or social acceptance will ever make them truly content and happy in their own body long term. That’s why it’s also extremely common for them to have multiple psychiatric diagnoses before, during, and after medical transitioning. (But because of forced affirming care guidelines therapists can’t say those need to be addressed first or we can be accused of trying to do conversion therapy which is illegal and unethical in most states and will cost us our careers). It’s a severe mess and most of the public doesn’t realize how messed up the whole landscape is. Detransitioners are the canaries in the coal mines and we need to listen to them, or else medical transitioning is going to go down in history the same way lobotomies and forced sterilization on psychiatric patients did… as our failure.

Regarding studies, I have heard multiple detransitioners say that the studies on regret often end 3-6 months after the surgery, while regret usually starts emerging a year or so later. Also, people who express regret are often dropped from the data pool. When studies are performed by people invested in trans ideology, either emotionally or financially, you're not going to get truth from them.

Thank you both for this thoughtful and well-informed conversation about gender transition and detransition. One point I would like to make to Dr. Paul Rhodes Eddy, regarding his use of the terms, "assigned male at birth" (AMAB), and "assigned female at birth" (AFAB). Those terms are inventions of gender ideology. The vast majority of infants are not assigned male or female at birth. Their sex is observed. Only a very small percentage of intersex infants might puzzle adults attending a birth, as to what sex they are. Ask any 6-year-old child what sex a newborn baby is, and they can tell you by simple observation. The voices of the detransitioners are extremely important. Currently, they are the tip of the iceberg, telling the truth about the limits of transition and the horrors of the surgeries. Regret after extensive genital surgery is far greater than any study reveals.

@@ritapacheco8084 The babies who are not born "intersex" are about 99.9% of all babies. So less than 1% of babies are "assigned" a gender by loose interpretation of the data. However, the truth is no babies are actually assigned a gender because all gender is observed not assigned. Interesexed as in hermaphrodite babies are always either male or female at the chromosome level but are born with a birth defect in which they have dysfunctional sexual organs of the opposite gender in addition to the reproductive organs of their actual biological gender.

Also the second error and parroting of the gender ideology is "sex is on a spectrum". It isn't. Within each sex there is for sure a spectrum/variation of phenotypes, fertility, ... but the sexes are distinct. There is no "in between" or an intersection between the sexes. There are no speggs or erms. It is around the 10th minute. After that I couldn't watch anylonger. We reproduce sexually. Which means two types of gametes. And therefore two types of sexes whose organisms are organized and developed around producing those gametes and fullfilling the distinct biological function: fertilizing or pregnancy/childbearing. Sexual procreation instead of just dividing and multiplying cells is the main driver in evolution. The other one is mutation.

Really? Thing is someone’s dna isn’t conclusive. Take some intersex conditions, specifically AIS (androgen insensitivity disorder). People with AIS all have female genitals, but no uterus and have male DNA (XY). Yet in studies they 100% ID as female. Ben Shapiro disqualifies intersex as a freak condition, but intersex conditions are a spectrum. So there is something called PAIS, which is partial androgen insensitivity disorder. This is similar but sufferers typically have a variety of symptoms but pop out of the womb and are either assigned male or female depending on what their anatomy is…. And you guessed it they all have x,y chromosomes, some Id men and women along the same lines as AIS. PAIS is typically considered an intersex disorder. Lastly there is MAIS which is mild androgen insensitivity disorder. Thing is with MAIS most people never know they have it and while it’s caused by similar inherited gene mutations as AIS, the physical impacts are generally mild and are normally picked up when they can’t have kids and the doctor knows to do the right tests. So we have no idea how many men have MAIS and MAIS is technically an intersex condition. There is very little science to tell if there is a link between intersex and trans, the studies just haven’t been large enough, though there are a couple of studies that point towards men with Klinefelter’s Syndrome as having a high % of transwomen amongst a study. So does DNA define whether you’re a man or a woman, normally yes but there are exceptions so the answer is a definitive NO.

Well done conversation. Dr. Eddy has done an extensive and accurate job of reviewing the available data, and I fully concur that there is no reliable data for exactly the reasons he named--short follow up, large percentage of patients lost to follow up, etc. My thought...no girl likes puberty. Periods are disgusting, breasts develop too early or too late, are too big or too small. What she needs is an understanding mother who is going to deal with her outbursts, teach her to deal with peer pressure, and help her thru this trying time. But many in our society have decided that it is better for mom to be out working, then coming home to housework and generally being exhausted. This results in the young girl spending more time on line and looking for support from her peer group, teachers, and groomers that she meets on line. There is evidence that if you do nothing with girls in their early teens, 90% or more will "decide" that they are heterosexual females by age 18, most of the rest will decide that they are homosexual. The problem is that they are being told by teachers and others that they must be "in the wrong body," at which point they get sucked into the whole "affirming" counseling, etc. Counseling is NOT supposed to be "affirming," it should be a time for challenging the client's beliefs, looking for potential diagnoses, and supporting during the process. It does not mean accepting everything that comes out of a client's mouth. Bottom line, start with a strong mother/daughter relationship years before the teen/pre-teen time. Then throw in a strong faith based peer group (yes, there are brats in church youth groups, choirs, etc., but at least there are hopefully some caring, supportive adults and some decent kids. This provide support for all the outside stuff that is thrown at her! It is also worth noting that the number of uterine transplants to date has been very small, and to date I cannot find any documentation of a live, term birth following a transplant. There have been premature deliveries in which the infant ultimately survived. It is difficult to call a procedure that results in an infant requiring aggressive care at birth a success, even though with our current state of neonatal care, some of these children have been discharged healthy. The question becomes, just because we CAN do it, should we?

You seem to have summed things up in this comment. One thing I would question, though. Why would any girl or woman see anything about their female physiology as disgusting? Shouldn't periods be seen as a God-given sign of being a fertile young woman who might become a mother? Something to celebrate? It seems to me, that this negative approach to our own biology is part of the problem. I am an old woman, by the way.

As a woman who is detransitioning after being on testosterone and having my breasts removed; I feel a sense of justice and relief when I see videos like these, exposing this movement for what it really is. People like myself have often been brainwashed by our "friends" on the internet, they claim they are looking out for you while feeding you dangerous self-centered ideas about who you are and urging you to reject and despise anyone who is against you. They will make you think your parents are abusive and evil for not agreeing with your new identity and often encourage you to leave and cut them out of your life. I was 12-13 when this process began for me, and my delusion was finally cemented when I went through a harrowing sexual assault at age 14, I decided that this new identity would be my chance to escape the pain and start over. Its been 10 years and i still remember thinking to myself "if I wasnt already trans before, I sure am now. I'm defiled and broken now, I can never be a woman". This new identity became a safety blanket, a pacifier, a way out of a world of guilt and shame. I didnt tell a soul about this experience, and continued to talk to my online friends and trans support groups, who offered unconditional encouragement still. They affirm every belief you have that aligns with theirs, but if you question anything or disagree with them, then they ban you from every group and forum and flame you for everyone to see. They'll expose you with pictures from your profile, your name, your posts and anything they can find on your profile, and people join in and talk about what transphobic scum you are. Its merciless and brutal, and eventually you start to think like them because you want to be on the "right side of history". If you think this sounds like a cult, thats because it is. If you eventually decide to detransition like I did, they will be the first to call you a traitor, a fake, and a threat to their cause. Every single voice that speaks up for detransitioners, for our children and for women, brings our society one step closer to sanity.

I wonder what Jesus thinks of this weakness of His body, His loveless body. Love isn't saying, "Sure, honey, I understand. And I'll support you whatever you decide." It's, "NO, these are lies you're being fed. So you're a tomboy; be a mechanic, get dirty. But then be knock-dead gorgeous. Be as God made you, and God doesn't make mistakes." I will put out some dots and connect them how you will. In 1980, the United States FDA adopted new dietary guidelines that emphasized breads and grains over animal proteins (food pyramid) . From 1980 to today obesity and diabetes have increased to epidemic proportions; over 40% of Americans have type 2 or prediabetes (call this a marker for metabolic disease). About 30 years ago, 1 in 10,000 children were diagnosed with autism. Today about 1 in 36 children are considered autistic. Autism rate increasing trends in the same direction as the increase growth in metabolic diseases. Fifty years ago, school lunches contained whole milk, vegetables, and good amount of protein. School lunches following today’s FDA guidelines serve skim milk, less than 4 ounces of lean protein and offered with commercial processed foods containing large amount of sugar on seed oils. Gen Z, born 1997 to 2012, is the first generation in which both parents and children were raised on the current food pyramid. Twenty percent of Gen Z is in the LGBTQ community. Autistic children are the largest adolescents group seeking transition.

(Courtesy of Stephanie Winn) Proponents of gender-transitioning youth insist the benefits of the practice are self-evident even if systematic reviews of evidence cannot detect them. To support their view, they quote exceedingly low regret rates of less than 1-2%. This implies that 98-99% of transitioned individuals are happily situated throughout their lives. This conclusion is inaccurate, for three reasons. 1) Follow-up studies exploring regret and quality of life suffer from very high rates of loss (20-60%) to follow-up, which means the most adversely affected (including dissatisfied, sick, or deceased) patients may be lost to follow-up at a disproportionately high rate. 2) These rates were obtained from individuals transitioning under much different circumstances than the ones found today. They were mature adults who passed rigorous psychological screenings, which today are viewed as “discriminatory gatekeeping.” 3) Each study’s methodology of how they defined "regret" differed, but generally speaking, "regret" has been traditionally defined very narrowly as a request for legal document change or a return to the same clinic that facilitated the original transition to start medical detransition. Even when these criteria were met, not every study would consider someone who wanted to reverse their transition as a "regretter". For example, Keira Bell, arguably the most famous young adult regretter, whose case led the UK to reevaluate their approach to gender dysphoric youth, would not have been counted as a regretter in frequently-cited “low regret” studies. This is because the studies required regretters to have had their gonads removed, while the only surgery Keira received was a double mastectomy.

Dr Eddy is ideologically captured; He talks about """women""", and then later mentions this """woman""" is biologcally male. He uses wrong-sex pronouns. He uses dishonest, left-wing terms like "ASSIGNED female/male at birth". Being compassionate is one thing; It's not hard to avoid using ANY pronouns, if you don't want to hurt someone's feelings by """mis-gendering""" them (ie CORRECTLY gendering them, for their objectively real, evidence-based sex)... ... But going right to the other side, when you're affirming WRONG-SEX pronouns, and promoting garbage like "assigned male/female at birth", is a whole OTHER thing.... As far as I'm concerned, using wrong-sex pronouns is deliberate LYING, and worse, a lie ACTIVELY PROMOTING the fiction that men can become women. And vice versa

As an autistic woman I'm so sad to see so many autistic girls get sucked into this ideology because they don't present as a stereotypical female. Not only that, they don't get the help they need for their autism because it's somehow wrong to look into the reason behind their gender issues. Autistic females do present more like males because they are more logical and less social, often more interested in math and science. I grew up as a tomboy. I wore mostly boys clothes because they were more comfortable and one of my symptoms is sensory sensitivity. So I hated dresses and I couldn't stand long hair (the feeling of things touching my neck), so I was always "one of the boys"... but that did not make me a boy in the slightest. I was a girl with different preferences than what was typical or expected. I feel like "gender" is just a new word for "personality". You do not need to get gender reassignment surgery because you would rather spend your weekend fishing and dirt biking than dressing up and putting on makeup. I'm now happily married for almost 20 years. If I was born now, I'm afraid I would have been transitioned and I would have thought that was the right thing for me because I didn't play with dolls or like the colour pink. Sexuality has nothing to do with personality (and children don't understand the sex part in any case.)

We haven't seen any fresh research on helping people accept their birth gender or using new therapies to prevent homosexuality in high risk boys in decades. Past research centered on psycho analytical techniques and poorly designed behavior modification rather than addressing common family issues, history of abuse, bullying by peers and view of self. However, conversion therapy, even if it's the patient's request is illegal so no further research can be done! Since hormones and surgery have many risks, therapists and researchers need to find new combined therapies (family, CBT, hypnosis, change of peer group) to help willing patients develop positive heterosexual image and attraction. However, the false idea that, "You can be anything you want to be" has laid the groundwork for self-centeredness and laid the groundwork for transgenderism. Unfortunately, in traditional Christian societies, people had no answers of how to help people with gender dysphoria or homosexual attraction, even though most perceived these as wrong. Today we have family breakdown and few sexual standards, naturally many become confused about a myriad of issues. Churches need to make preventing divorce, refer troubled spouses to Christian therapists and set up Christian schools and apprenticeships with Christian people to make the Christian community stronger, with clear lines of what is allowed or not permitted. Most people cannot handle much ambiguity, especially when they have to sort out issues alone. Churches should learn from the conservative Mennonite churches where the community offers lots of support, members are accountable and divorces are rare. The community must have clear standards, lots of support, lots if teamwork and responsibility and separation from the world. In most churches, the lines between believers and unbelievers in thought and behavior are too blurry instead of being a committed brotherhood as seen among conservative Mennonites and New Order Amish.

Dear @Cristina Bivins When the sperm of your father and the egg of your mother united to form you, half of your genetic makeup came from your father and half came from your mother. The chromosomes form each combine to form a genetically distinct individual human being ...... You ! The chromosome that determine one's biological sex is the 23 third chromosome. The chromosome is paired and how they are "paired" on the 23 third chromosome determines you biological sexual anatomy and is detectable in every cell of your body. However, there are some genetic anomalies that on rare circumstances does not exactly follow this rule (we are speaking about what normally occurs) If your paired 23 third chromosome had an "X" chromosome and a "Y' chromosome, you would very probably would have been a biological male. The presence of the "Y" chromosome is what determines a person’s biological sex. That would be detectable in every cell of your body and does not change. Once you are a biological male or biological female, that does not change. I am assuming that you are a biological female which would mean that every cell in your body would have two "X" chromosomes pairs on the 23 third chromosome. This makes you a biological female, and this would be your biological sex, assigned at birth, by genetics, at your conception. Be Well, DZ

This "assignment" is not a human determination, meaning that humans do not assign what biological sex a person is. What I said is quite accurate. You said, "It's either male or female". generally speaking that is true if the 23 third chromosome is paired "X", "X" then the child is female. If it is "X", "Y" then generally a male. However, there are some rare anomalies such as "Klinefelter Syndrome" ( "X", "X", "X") and "47,XYY Syndrome" ("X", "Y", "Y") in which there are triplets, instead of pairs of chromosomes. From the perspective of the Christian Worldview, the effects of the fall distorted the genetics of humanity, and genetic anomalies do exist. If you disagree, then identify what you disagree with and explain why you disagree. Be Well, DZ

As a biologist I must take issue with the idea that evolutionary biology in any way supports transgender ideology if understood correctly. However, it also doesn't support eugenics so maybe the false idealogical version you call Darwinism is a factor.

This is a stretch and may be difficult to correlate or connect. In scripture, Jesus encountered people who were "demon possessed." Researching and attempting to understand exactly what that was, is subjective, but can we identify some thing like that in our contemporary culture. Could gender dysphoria correlate in any way?

The WHO doesn't recognise and dropped dysphoria from their directives, so are they actually recording transitioning and detransitioning? I would have thought most people would have done so privately and without some supposed professional input. I don't think anyone knows how many transitioned or detransitioned. The Scottish bill seeks to make it a self-determining issue.

There is some very interesting data in a group of 11 recent Dutch studies. Only 20% of kids in these studies persisted beyond age 18. A few were untraceable and in the rest, feelings of dysphoria desisted as they went through typical biological development. The interesting thing is that among the cohort that persisted, every one of them had been taking puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, etc. This seems to clearly make a case that these drugs are creating and perpetuating dysphoria in kids who would otherwise resolve during puberty.. We are creating dysphoria in kids who experience typical developmental angst and then that dysphoria is perpetuated by the continued use of pharmaceuticals. In order to claim resolution through transition, these chemicals that change brain and body chemistry must be continued throughout the lifespan. I suspect the majority would have desisted if they had not taken chemicals to change brain and body chemistry.

Problem is that kids are doing this to themselves before they have the maturity to make these decisions. And doctors are helping them do it. And parents are being backed into a corner, told "affirm and support your child or they will commit suicide. " Therefore, this is a meaningful societal conversation that needs to happen so that the right policies can be in place to protect the most vulnerable.

I’m really shocked that you are praising Preston Sprinkle and his Embodied book as a good resource. I started going through his program a couple of years ago and it was clear with a few sessions that he was not coming from a Biblical perspective. I recently listened to Becket Cook’s 3 part episode with Rosaria Butterfield and Christopher Yuan. It confirmed to me that my hesitation in finishing his course was correct.

I guess to look into differential diagnosis would be perceived as the same crime as deadnaming. Theiir invented terms just show extremist mindset. Gender is a spectrum they like to lecture but if I don‘t instantly see where in the spectrum the person I come across randomly wants to be perceived as, I‘m a hater, a „cccisss hettt“ The whole ideology is so nonsensical that they had to invent new language to exclude and silence anyone who dares to think the nonsense through and point out the totally irrational theory. Even scientific terms were changed to fit their outlandish narrative. It lacks any logic and is completely based on a belief that was pushed by powerful wealthy political ideologists and a handful of AGPs. When ideologists and fetishists have influence on classification of „transsexuality“ and suddenly a mental disorder is a physical condition that is treated w cosmetic surgery no one should wonder why suddenly masses of unhappy teens think they are „trans“… No therapy that demands commitement and compliance but an all affirming fulfillment of imagined selfs, dreamed of, developed over months, sometimes even days only, while looking at „beautiful and famous ppl online“ to think „oh now I get whats wrong w me. I’m just like this transman/-woman and I’m going to soon be my authentic self, exactly as famous & beautiful, not lonely, struggling, socially awkward anymore! I want to transition, the sooner the better.“ „Consequences, risks? Who cares? I’m gonna feel great, everyone will see how my self will change and how succesful I will be, everyone will love me.“ („And all the „cis hets“ have no idea, don’t know what they are talking about and there‘s no point in explaining them anyway bc they all hate us and they are just jealous… Very easy to reject any questions, just insult.“Isn‘t that a very immature attitude? It‘s very common in the loving welcoming community… Why could that be🤔) And no, I don‘t hate transpeople, I‘m tired of the extremists who promote affirming care, who demand whatever they wish, threatening us and still talking of themselves as oppressed minority, pushing their agenda at the cost of many kids, teens, women.

@Dr Sean McDowell I would LOVE, and I think it would be SUPER helpful if you could do a segment on the demonic toys for our youth that are pushed and available everywhere. I have grandkids and they are, of course, sucked into all this Harry Potter and Pokémon crap, and I don’t know how to approach my daughter about it. I think she thinks it’s hysterical for me to even put any emphasis on it. She’s on the verge of becoming a believer, as she is beginning to see God working in her life. Thanks for the consideration. :)

Tbh, it is crazy. Harry Potter is fiction about wizards and whimsical adventures, it doesn't actually support the use of real life magic. Pokemon is a show that mostly emphasizes hard work and the value of friendship and strong bonds. I know media may come off as a bit weird or not what we may be used to, but it's nowhere even close to demonic and you shouldn't just label it so because it's not what we are used to.

I think you did a really good job here acknowledging your own biases while still trying to look at the real picture. I found that if you meet one transgender person and know their story you've met only one transgender person and know their story. They're just too many variables for any kind of generalization. But I think no matter anyone's opinion, doing this to children is a horrible idea. Just from a biological perspective they're not fully grown. I mean at least let the dough finish baking before you try and change the cake.

I was born female and never fixated on my biological sex until....I started to enter my teen years, I started to turn into attractive girl and my narcissistsic mother started to be envious of me, long story short she made me hate my woman parts for whole 2 years until I reckognized that my dysphoria feelings were coming from her inability to deal with her envy. At this point this dysphoria was completely gone. But some children fail to reckognize the roots of the problem. Imo main roots of gender dysphoria - abusive parenting. You can argue of course. I never percieve myself as a woman even now, I'm a person, a soul if you want, that happen to be born in woman's body. Fixating on one's body and sex is a mental disorder
