Built exclusively for the Detroit Fire Department by HME Ahrens-Fox, this is one-of-six units, are to be strategically stationed to serve all of Metropolitan Detroit. Built on a custom HME 1871w Chassis, these Heavy Rescues have been designed to access all of Detroit’s firehouses. In addition to its full complement of rescue and extrication equipment, the Squads will also carry the latest rescue tools, air-bottle storage systems, a heated compartment for ropes and EMS supplies and portable winch, and more. It also features a 100-GPM PTO pump, booster reel, and 300-gallon water tank. The interior of the 100-inch wide cab provides a bench that can be deployed to transport injured firefighters from the scene.

The idea for the injured firefighter transport is something new, and I like it, especially with Detroit’s EMS record.

First of all, the previous squads didn't have pumps. Second, it's "extrication," not "extraction." Third, structure fires in Detroit are box alarms. Shout out to whoever spent 17 seconds of preparation on this video script.

Me too, but my dentist did it, not the Detroit Fire Dept, I don't think they currently carry novacaine.

I've asked this question 1000 times and have gotten a 1000 different answers...What makes it a "heavy" rescue? is it weight or being able to do all aspects of rescue and have all the necessary equipment on board? what definition does NFPA define a "Heavy" rescue. Our rescue is WAY bigger then this and isn't considered a Heavy resuce

Dave Walton I believe it is up to the jurisdoction as to what defines their heavy rescue. Ive seen tractor drawn heavy rescues and medium rescues called heavy rescues. NFPA has no definition of Heavy Rescue so I'm guessing it is just up to what the manufacturer or jurisdiction to define what makes a rescue heavy.

It means it's equipment is ready for every type of rescue from collapse to car extraction high rise etc they have the tools to do it

It’s like asking what is the definition of beauty. Each person will have their own definition. In other words each dept. will define what “their” definition of “heavy” is. There’s no specific definition. If you ask what a truck, engine, or quint is , there’s certain criteria that will define those types of apparatus that are fairly basic and transferable to the industry and depts. or you can think of it like squad or rescue. Each dept will have a diff meaning as to what that is exactly. Ranging from a paramedic unit to firefighting vehicle, to urban search and rescue vehicle. Clear as mud right ?

Spencer Matthews I’m finding it hard to believe the ISO rating will go from a 4 up to a 1. Based solely on just new apparatus being purchased. Seems a little or lot snake oil’ish …
