We just got done mini tubing a 1969 firebird. We were not impressed with the Detroit speed kit, so we ended up removing the rear frame rails and fabbed. Our own. We moved them 2 inches. Used the tubs. We made our rails from 3/16 steel . we narrowed a 12 bolt rear from 60 inches to 54.5. Used a 4 link rear suspension . we now have wheels that are 18x11 with a 5 inch back spacing with 315/30r18 tires. This gives us 3/4 rear spacing clearance and we have 5/8 outer clearance for the tire to the lip on the quarter panel. We are now starting on a 1967 camaro

Do you happen to have pics of the fitment on those 18x11 wheels? I have a 69 Firebird that if mini tubbed and trying to get wheel spec ideas. If you had any guidance I’d really appreciate it!

Great looking car and wheels. I am planning a 1970-73 restomod Firebird project. Are your mini-tubs 2" or 3"? What is the flange to flange measurement of the rear-end compared to the stock? Good luck with the project.

I did the normal Detroit Speed Mini-tub. Not sure how deep along with their axle. I think its 4-5 inches narrower than stock total. 1970 Camaro is what I'm going to restore next, always had a love for the second gens. Good luck with your Firebird!

Can't wait for the 70-73 rebuild. I'm watching this because I want to do my 70 camaro. What brand of wheels did u go with. Those kinda look like the ridler rims im going with.

@@MrGrey-no7sn They are Rocket Racing Attack wheels, and I am definitely excited aswell! I have a few seconds gens I could start with but might make a video on which to do based on viewer suggestions. Definitely have to finish the 1969Camaro first though haha.

do you have a standard length rear end? or shorten one?
@DillanFisher
@DillanFisher 2 жыл бұрын
This is the shortened one directly from Detroit speeds website! Fits very nice, and their powder coating is super good!

is that a stock width housing or narrowed?
@DillanFisher
@DillanFisher 3 жыл бұрын
Narrowed. I'm not sure on how much, but Detroit Speed would know! Complete Quadralink kit with rear housing and axles were ordered from them directly.

Sup Dillan, Kick ass car BTW. I'm also working on a 69' Camaro build. Did you go with a stock fuel tank?
@DillanFisher
@DillanFisher 2 жыл бұрын
From everything I’ve seen and test fit with the wheels on, the stock fuel tank will work. The only thing is that you will not be able to route your exhaust over the axle and around the fuel tank because of the tire size. The stock fuel tank works if you dump just before the axel. I plan on doing the Holley sniper EFI for the Big block, so I’m just going to go with their notched fuel tank with the pump installed to save headache. Good luck with your project man! Awesome to see more people working on Camaros! If you have anymore questions definitely feel free to reach out!

@@DillanFisher thanks for replying back. I bought an LS1 with a 4L80e transmission. It’s been a big debate for me on mini tubing or not. I have three little ones. I want them to enjoy riding in the car. I heard if you mini tub you have to narrow the rear seat?
@DillanFisher
@DillanFisher 2 жыл бұрын
@@lopezchevys Yes you would have to trim it a little bit, prob about and inch or two on each side. Depending on what you want to do and how much work/ time you're willing to throw at it would be my deciding factors. Having a bigger tire is always nice but expensive if you're always wanting to run the bigger tire, I think my tires were about $350 a piece but my car will be tracked a lot hopefully. Its definitely a decent amount of work but not too bad if you plan on just only tubbing the car. Detroit speeds installation guide is super helpful and I have a few tips and tricks I can tell you as-well when trying to bend the curve for the frame rail piece. Overall all comes down to how you want the look/function of the car. The Ls1 and 4l80e are going to be awesome. Thats a super strong transmission, it's going to be wicked and super reliable.

@DillanFisher

The Rear-end was ordered from Detroit Speed Directly. I will try and measure soon but from what I remember it was 5 inches shorter. Ill try to remember to reply once I remeasure it!

Thank you! They are Rocket Racing Attack Hyper Shot Wheels. They are Semi-forged / Flow formed wheels at a reasonable price. Super happy with them, lightweight aswell.
