Hi. I just found your channel, like it a lot, and sorry for the late comments. A few things about use of the winch coming from a retired MD who grew up on a farm, with extensive experience with both light duty and heavy equipment. 1. Absolutely wear heavy leather gloves when using the winch, as the cable will fray after the first real use and a thousand little steel wires will SHRED your hands. (Previously mentioned by another viewer) 2. Safety Glasses. Stuff flies when things move. 3. Get a heavy duty snatch block, along with a tree protecting strap for attaching the snatch block to the tree. (Snatch Block = Heavy Duty Pulley). Running your cable through the snatch block and back to your truck DOUBLES the weight limit of your winch cable and reduces by half the work that the winch has to do in pulling your truck out of the muck or in pulling whatever you are moving with the winch. Winches break and parts will not be readily available in the event of a shtf situation, so by all means, do not stress your gear that your life might depend on. 4. I'm not certain about your winch, but most use the lower cable retrieval gear for actual winching activity. This is a much lower gear ratio which gives the winch much greater power, and will also minimize the chance of wrecking both your winch and your transmission/PTO mechanism. The high speed gear is typically used when respooling the cable back onto the winch under no load. You will truly be amazed at what can be moved by your winch when using both a snatch block and a low gear ratio. A 5 ton winch becomes a 10 ton winch! 5. Lastly, if you are trying to move something besides your truck, backing your truck up to a large tree or other stationary object and anchoring your truck to the tree with a heavy duty strap will prevent the truck from sliding across the ground and ensure that the object needing to be moved will move. Plus, you won't burn up either your tires or your breaks in trying to keep the deuce in place. 6. One other thing about the snatch block. You can use it to move your vehicle around trees or other objects when stuck in a densely wooded area. Attach the snatch block to a tree in line with the direction that you need to travel. After running the cable through the pulley, you then can attach the cable to a more distant tree in line with the direction that you ultimately need to go after making the turn, with your vehicle now unstuck, but still needing help to climb a wet slippery hill. (This is a three point winch set rather than a two point). Wish I could draw a diagram here but hopefully I've explained it well enough. Thanks for a great video!

If you didn't have the cash on hand you can easily get one of these and pay less than 100/month! Not that expensive when you think of what used cars go for its a drop in the bucket.

Is there a way to "Launch" the winch hook like a Harpoon Gun?😎
@juliogonzo2718
@juliogonzo2718 5 жыл бұрын
Always hook with point up ( -u ) as it will fly down if hook breaks. Supposedly draping a chain over wire rope will prevent it from flailing back at you (Never used that technique any time I broke a cable so don't know for sure. Also if using wire rope clips on cable end for hook attachment, saddle part goes on the "live end" of the cable and the u bolt part on the "dead end". This can be remembered by the saying "Never saddle a dead horse"
@patb9375
@patb9375 5 жыл бұрын
Not sure if I just did not understand you. The U (saddle) goes over the cable that is the load, the long part, the bottom of the saddle the part that tightens up with the nuts goes over the short piece the end of the cable. The dead horse is the short piece with no load, so the saddle the U goes over the load part of the cable the long part. The strap that tightens up to the short cable piece has little teeth to keep it from sliding, if you put it the other way the short piece of cable can slide out of the U even if you over tighten it. And for anybody arounds sake do not use wire rope on a winch on something that size. If you have broken a cable you need to learn what size cable can be used for what size load and a rusty cable is deadly do not trust it.

That tree had a trunk about the size of my leg. This was all at idle but the winch is tied to the speed of the engine just like the wheels so you can infact rev the winch. I'll put this in another video along with the throttle hand control that's not to be used as a cruise control but was totally used as a cruise control on every long haul.

can you unlock the freespool lever under a load? im gonna use one for a logging tractor and in trying to figure out if itll work. im thinking if i winch the logs up too high off the ground i could put the tractor pto in gear and winch up another few inches and push down on the lever at the same time to be able to unlock it (ill modify the lever to where itll be in a safer place)
@Recovry6x6
@Recovry6x6 3 жыл бұрын
If I'm reading correctly, you want to be able to disengage the dog clutch at the back of the winch while under load? If I am correct, the answer is no! Once that winch is rigged, all operations are from the cab. Many folks think they can engage and disengage the winch at the winch. You might be able to shove that dog clutch to engage or disengage while there is no load, once there is a load, the lever will break before you get it to disengage.

I was wondering if you had any idea what the rpm's on the output shaft in the two gears are. Ever see anyone power a generator from the front output of the pto? A generator I saw said it wanted 540 rpm and I'm guessing that shaft is spinning slower in low but maybe close in high? Thanks!
@deuceandguns

I will never use the outside clutch level ever againg. My truck was runing/ON and I had the winch level inside the cab on neutral. I accidentally pushed the outside level to the IN position and the winch started to roll in the cable, almost making the front tire of the truck roll over me to almost kill me. I got safe by a pile of cinder blocks the truck got stuck on. Minor cuts, bit of blood. But I'm alive. So, I recommend, working the winch while the truck is Shut OFF/Engine not running, and after you figure EVERYTHING out of what needs to be done, then, moved to the inside cab of the truck, Start the truck and work everything from the inside. My two cents.

The external clutch selector can be engaged or in neutral while changing the lever in the cab. That lever is simply to start and stop the winch from outside the truck. Good question.

+DEUCE AND GUNS Can you use the winch with the wheels in gear (say using the winch to help the truck up a steep hill)? Never had a winch so didn't know if it is always just let the winch do all the work.
@deuceandguns
@deuceandguns 8 жыл бұрын
Wolfgang1224 Yep. My dad once told me a story where someone had sunk a heavy forklift in mud up to the axles in Vietnam. It took a Deuce with all ten wheels spinning out and the winch pulling to even budge the thing but they kept breaking the winch pin. Dad eventually hooked an additional Deuce to the front of the first Deuce to free the forklift. Usually, it's best to let the winch do the work unless sunk in mud then pretty much anything to get moving is fair game but becomes increasingly more dangerous for people and equipment.

@deuceandguns
@deuceandguns Жыл бұрын
If it has the standard LDT 465 engine then it's a dry sleeve cylinder setup so un like my F-250 7.3 the Deuce can use the cheap regular antifreeze and distilled water. The wet sleeve diesel engines is where you need the special antifreeze. That being said I do recommend to add some SCA to the mix which helps prevent pinhole leaks in the oil cooler.

@patb9375
@patb9375 5 жыл бұрын
It could pull down a tree, you would want to chock your wheels also and you are putting a lot of strain on the brakes and the winch, you may want to get a few shear pins also as you may need them. Easier to just hook the deuce to the tree with a heavy enough cable and hit it.
