Nadine Sierra, 2018 winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s prestigious Beverly Sills Artist Award, has made her first album for Deutsche Grammophon and Decca Gold, having signed an exclusive contract with the labels last year. There’s a Place for Us was recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Robert Spano. The album presents the soprano’s stunning vocal abilities in an eclectic choice of American classical music - as well as works by Bernstein, the repertoire ranges from Stephen Foster and Douglas Moore to Stravinsky and Villa-Lobos, and on again to Ricky Ian Gordon, Osvaldo Golijov and Christopher Theofanidis, with texts in Spanish and Portuguese as well as English.

Estou emocionado ao ouvir essa melodia que eu já conhecia mas por ignorância não sabia que era do Villa-Lobos, eu to ouvindo e entendendo a letra. Pq ela é cantada em português cara! Que incrível! tive que voltar o vídeo pq quando percebi que compreendia a letra eu não sabia o que tinha perdido.(eu tava com a janela do YT minimizada e esse vídeo entrou aleatoriamente em segundo plano)

WOW!! I'm a long time fan of Nadine Sierra. But now ... way more! Sure she sings it wonderfully. That is to be expected. But also, her pronunciation is really good! She doesn't just sing with a Spanish accent like so many others; she really made an effort to get the Portuguese right. (Portuguese pronunciation is notoriously difficult and entirely different from Spanish) Every word is understandable. Congratulations! Among American singers, I believe only Kathleen Battle's version is more idiomatic.
