The moment I started to watch this I thought the casting was spot on. Jonas Nay looked right but also had the ability to portray a character searching for answers with credibility. He was naive and gullible but not so gullible that he wasn't adjusting all the time. He is a real talent and I'm not surprised to hear this show became cult immediately. I was hooked within the first five minutes. I didn't know he was a jazz pianist too (some people have all the talent). It's refreshing to see how likeable and erudite he is too. I can see how he will probably follow Christopher Waltz into the big time as a great German actor in main stream movies at least I hope he does as like Waltz, he's a breath of fresh air from the run of the mill Hollywood star! However please keep making those quality German movies too!

+Leah Leo But nudity and rape scenes don't equal bad. Orange is the new black for example can portray a rape in a very realistic way which shows like game of thrones fail to do. And since nudity is a pretty normal thing, it's only good if it's being de-dramatized in tv shows!
@thewitchhiahia
@thewitchhiahia 8 жыл бұрын
Leah Leo I totally agree that a movie sucks if its only plotline is to get as much laid as possible. But of course there are good movies which contain a lot of sex, for example Blue is the warmest colour. There the focus is about exploring your own sexuality, which is an important subject that should be portrayed without getting criticism for being "too exploitive".

Really enjoyed these series. I was in the former GDR in 1992, 3 years after the fall of the wall. I was in my early 20s and with a bunch of Brits and very playful West Germans. Jonas Nay really perfected the blank, serious -almost fearful - look of the citizens over there. The contrast between the different people of the same country was very stark back then and Eastern Germany looked as if it were fossilised in the 1940s. This has definitely reawakened my interest in the Cold War and would love to return to see how it's all changed. It also shows us a perspective on how the Cold War has impacted on the problems we have in the Middle East in terms of our respective relationships today

As a Latin American, the only German people I ever appreciated were the eastern ones, the only ones that denounced the fascist military regimes that the Americans sponsored in our region and Karl Marx. Out of Europe, the Soviets certainly did more for the World than the Germans, with their World Wars of aggression. And they were neither out of one continent nor one nation, but simply proud proletarians, like me and so many others. Big fucking deal you were born in Germany. My ancestors were also born there, bu they came to Latin America for better opportunities, back in the times when Germany wasn't even a unified country yet. Even countries come and go faster than CLASS. We were always WORKERS, and always will be. All of those who do not live out of renting property or money, including small time entrepreneurs as myself should respect more the communists. Sure they've made mistakes like everyone else, but their philosophy was one of peaceful coexistence through class consciousness. Nowadays only bankers rule our western states. Even in China they manage to have neutral government towards different ethnic and sexual preferences without repressing productive enterprise owners, but we stay put with ghosts of the past, like parasitic private financial rentism and it's imperialist nature.

Not enough people value being a hero of the international proletariat like those proud East German brave socialist people were. The way to solve international problems needs to be international, as German Karl Marx and English Friederich Engels have already found out long ago. We should all be proud to be the hard working people that we are, proletarians. If there wasn't NATO interventionism in the middle east, there woud not be a refugees crisis in the first place! WORKERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE! You have nothing to lose but your chains!
