The Nazis did not create this anthem. This anthem was used long before the Nazis used this anthem. Also this anthem is still sang time from time, however not used in international events.

August 1841 auf der Insel Helgoland von August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben zu einer Melodie von Joseph Haydn verfasst. Er bringt angesichts der damaligen politischen Zersplitterung in Deutschland die Sehnsucht der deutschen Bevölkerung nach einem geeinten deutschen Vaterland zum Ausdruck. Die geographischen Punkte in der ersten Strophe (Maas, Memel etc.) zeigen die damaligen Grenzen des Deutschen Reiches auf. Das Lied bringt angesichts der damaligen politischen Zersplitterung in Deutschland die Sehnsucht der deutschen Bevölkerung nach einem geeinten deutschen Vaterland zum Ausdruck. Nur die letzte Strophe ist die deutsche Nationalhymne.

The disclaimer is sort of weird. The Nazi party did not create this song nor did they create Germany. Germania is ancient. World war two was a continuance of World war one. Both were utterly tragic in consequence. To think of lost life, the lost families and destroyed hopes is to contemplate the end of the world. Really, Germany was massively misled by the NSDAP. They kept singing of Germany's greatness as they led it off of a cliff.

This anthem has NOTHING to with Nazism! It has been created in the year 1841 by Hoffman von Fallersleben based on a melody by Joseph Haydn, a great German composer! The real NAZI anthem has been the "Horst-Wessel-Lied" ("Die Fahne hoch....")

I've always found this National Anthem to be so very energetic and true to itself. I like it, though having admitted as much, has brought me much criticism. I can clearly hear what is in it, may have woken people to fiercely follow. Sorry. But that's what I hear from it.

Ja tam nic złego w tym hymnie nie widzę. Powstał w XIX wieku jako Deutchland Lied. Nie zaś za czasów Hitlera. Był także hymnem Republiki Weimarskiej. U nas w Polsce tylko śmieją z ,,urody,, niemieckich kobiet. Mamy na przykład dowcip - po czym poznać, że wyjechałeś do Niemiec - krowy są ładniejsze od kobiet. I don't see anything wrong with the anthem. It was founded in the 19th century as DeutschlandLied. Not in Hitler's time. It was also the anthem of the Weimar Republic. Here in Poland they laugh only at the beauty of German women. For example, we have a joke - after you know that you went to Germany - cows are prettier than women.

I find the footage manipulates the song. Obviously, during the 3rd Reich, everything in German national consciousness was misused for propaganda and for the legitimization of the regime! The so called connection between the old traditions and the new (nazi). Das Lied der Deutschen, including all three stanzas, should not be shunned, because of the manipulation of the nazi era. In this debate, I have even lost contact with my own relatives in the Fatherland. Am I the only traditional patriot that is left? The old school prior to 1933 was better. 😅
