Last night a strong, powerful tornado struck downtown Sulphur, Oklahoma while most were in bed for the night. Extensive damage was left behind and old, historical buildings were completely destroyed.

I know where you're coming from but mobile and prefab homes are much more dangerous to be in than a site built home.

No to mention now a day houses are mostly drywall. Tornadoes will tear that up just like a mobile home

It also matters what the house is built from. A well-built cinder block home will still probably be destroyed by a tornado like this one, however, you have a good chance of surviving inside of it, whereas inside a wood frame house or a trailer you are very likely to be killed.

In sulphur if you have or getting a cellar you let the town know where its located on property so they van check on you especially if you are a senior

it would be good if the house was built from a concrete block. A concrete house can never be damaged by a Tornado. Very easy to build.

Concrete block homes still suffer major damage in a direct hit from a tornado. You won’t even find the bricks in an F5 at 300+ mph. Remember, tornadoes are not just wind, but also major pressure systems.

um no a concrete house would not withstand an ef5.

If the concrete house is poured solid and has a good tie beam, the concrete structure itself should be able to withstand the tornado probably, but the roof, walls, and everything else will still be destroyed. And there's no guarantee that flying debris won't fall on the people inside after the roof is torn off. So a tornado shelter or bunker is really the only safe option for a tornado like this one.

While in Nebraska there were no deaths..both were well-warned storms. Its the lack of shelters in oklahoma.. Nebraska probably had more available..I remember seeing a comment on fb about someone living in a mobile home with no community tornado shelter in MOORE!!! The state would rather put their money elsewhere than making sure everyone has shelter from tornadoes.
