We FINALLY have received some attention from the development team and the changes are HUGE!!! In this video I cover all of the changes coming to Devastation Evoker in Patch 10.1 for Dragonflight and discuss my thoughts on the spec moving forward. More testing to come soon !

The Devastation Evoker changes in terms of Single Taget PVE(raid bosses) is quite a nerf to dragon rage duration putting it from 50+ sec down to a locked 32 sec (assuming you're able to still channel disintegrate majority of the time aside from when you empower aka just stand still and die to swirlies after your double hover use wears off but I guess that's more in line with how casters work according to my buddies, I'm used to being a melee so I guess it'll just translate to their current dps becoming much worse under movement fights as they have to stop channeling to move) Haste will also become very odd in a sense that it can be harmful for your class considering that you want to be channeling disintegrate for as long as possible to lower the cooldown of empower abilities in ST. Overall it's a nerf to ST (which it was already one of the worst classes for in PVE even with mythic staff, which I assume we'll also lose the ability to use else we'll be swapping it in before every ST fight and swap to high ilvl weapon after it's used the entire expansion, yes this works in raid combat and M+) However it's somewhat of a potential buff to PVE AOE with all the changes ofc. Feels tone deaf not to mention why would we have a hero/BL if it could hurt us to be under the effect of it, we might also be in a state where we need to save Dragon Rage until Hero/BL wears off because it could potentially have negative effects if we have too much haste and even if we do not get a negative effect from the haste we won't really get any significant bonuses from it. stat prio will likely also change to Mastery/crit in pve. I highly hope they move the DR duration so a 3rd usage of both empower spells is possible within the Dragon Rage window or reduce the cooldown of dragon rage by 30 sec or more & maybe figure out a way to make haste actually be beneficial again instead of a potential detriment (haste could make disintegrate just tick faster without lowering it's channel time and the talent that makes it channel 20% faster can just make it tick faster). Alternatively they could put effort into actually making the mastery good as in PVE you need the damage most of the time when bosses are low and in PVP you kinda need it when people are dropping low to which both you cannot really do any damage anymore cause target is low hp.

@@coachjd There's several solutions to the many problems for sure, it just seems really odd to me with the way they decided to go about it on PTR so far literally like they never played the Spec at all. Before you could not feel so bad about having to cancel the disintegrate to move because you mainly cared about the usage to lower cds ofc you'd like to hit the closest damage ticks before canceling when possible. I just see the haste being a downside, way lower duration dragon rage and the necessary time you need to be channeling in total during dragon rage to efficiently make use of it as a possible. On a Target dummy it already provides a nerfed dps result but I imagine that during hectic fights these changes might be downright devastating to the spec in pve and that is considering that on live it's not performing that well on boss damage especially if ST.

Personally I'm really worried about some of the changes they're doing. 10.0.7 will bring us the Ancient Flame change and with Engulfing Blaze being nerfed from 40% to 25% in 10.1 I fear the survivability of the spec is going to be taking another hit. I mainly play BGs and world PvP so I know my view isn't important in the way that arena play is, but still. Evokers have some crazy self healing potential. I've been running with Ancient Flame, Engulfing Blaze and mostly Inner Radiance instead of shorter kick, just to have mad healing available to me. Come 10.1, Living Flame will heal roughly 10.7% less compared to now, the cast time on spam healing will be 54% slower and on top of all that we lost 25% crit effect so that's going to be yet another hit on self heals. All in all, the heal spam will be roughly 54% of the power it used to be, before thinking of crit in the mix. That's a HUGE nerf in total, and while self healing isn't as critical in arenas as it is for BGs and world PvP it still plays a role, right? Devastation isn't very strong defensively to begin with, self heals are all we got. Cutting out nearly half of the healing power seems like a very harsh nerf to the defensive side of the kit that was already on the weaker side. The other Devastation changes look awesome, though I'm also a bit bummed out on no way to skip Pyre. Engulfing Blaze still looks pretty mandatory, especially if we end up playing with Burnout. And I honestly don't ever want to think about playing without Burnout. Procs for damage, procs for healing, the talent is just incredible. Right now I'm also just having a lot of trouble with how to allocate points on the bottom side. Previously, there were a couple of build options but for the specific way I played I never felt like I was missing out on something I really wanted on the last third of the tree. Now with the Imminent Destruction rework there's not enough points to pick things. But oh well, I guess that just means the talents finally actually do their job, right? Honestly, I'm just hoping for something new defensively here. I don't mean a buff to the DR or a new DR or anything like that. I just want to be able to keep myself alive and the humongous self heal nerfs are going to hurt. To end on a positive note, Causality feels awesome. It feels really smooth to not have to rely on EB procs and instead you just spam your Essence into Disintegrate and it works.

Couldn't agree more, I cant see a world with the ancient flame changes going through that I could live without burnout. What's more disappointing is that ancient flame will get consumed by a burnout proc. REALLY would like to see that changed if the talent is going to get any value at all. It's either that or just we get an insane out of the blue dev attention for more damage mitigation, passively or actively i dont care. With burnout I strive to match a warlocks healing (which he does most passively through soul leech) with my abilities. I aim for 5k HPS ( lock is about the same, again mostly passive ) We will have to wait and see though 10.1 is over 2 months away.

@@coachjd Yeah Burnout eating Ancient Flame is such a dumb thing and it's only going to get worse for us with the Ancient Flame changes. I do hope we'll see a change to that at least. But I honestly just don't get why this was changed to begin with. The talent has a little bit of offensive benefit which is now going to get nerfed due to lack of availability, but it had plenty of defensive benefit which is almost entirely gone now because getting one faster cast every 24s and one every 30s really isn't a big thing anymore. But yeah, might have to start figuring out how it feels to drop Burnout if nothing changes. IMO that talent is just so crucial to the feel of the spec. I love the RNG proc setup Evoker has going on with Scintillation and Burnout. Sometimes you just ascend through the gates to Proc City and destroy some fools and it feels glorious and it'd be a real shame to let that go. But as you said, 2 months is a very long time still and there's plenty hope for more changes!

@@coachjd PvE changes or not, at the very least all the offensive talent changes were great. Tried it a bit on the PTR and the 20% damage increase and the cast speed increase off of Imminent Destruction is just fantastic and Causality feels awesome now. And if you aim Deep Breath correctly, Divide and Conquer can spawn the fire wall under the enemy. It's kinda wonky to be on the right side of the wall since it still blocks friendly LoS, including yourself, but if they just sit the 3s stun in the fire it HURTS. Like, imagine doing 100k on DB + another 100k off of the fire wall.

@@coachjd Nevermind, as it turns out the walls don't really work that way in PvP. They spawn slightly outside the Deep Breath area, got scammed by being able to land both on a dummy. If someone steps into the flame they take 3x20k DoT ticks which is okay I guess but really it's not that scary. It's basically a smoke bomb that also blocks friendly LoS that can more or less just be walked through with not a whole lot of danger. Will be very strong for kiting a caster since you can just jump in and out of the wall for the entire duration though.

Deep breath getting scary buffed again Dragonrage gonna give even more pressure in PVP I just really don't know what to think about Causality to be honest. Just thinking about it and I didn't test, but it feels like any form of haste (and natural convergence) is going to straight up nerf causality (I'm not even talking about all the kicks and such that could affect it more than they are now) And I don't think many people are willing to increase disintegrate's channeling duration (reduce dps) to maximize causality I guess that just means more reliance on hoarded power and more trade-offs to make Theorycrafting time and calculations needed lol FTF working with pyre only (At least that's what I understand from reading the patch note) is just straight up a big punch in the chest for PVP And living flame? I feel like there are still too many variables to make any conclusions other than "we can heal ourselves waaaaay less than we used to" with both 10.0.7 and 10.1 But yeah, really looking forward for that stupid deep breath lol

@@coachjd Would actually be really cool if it was a support tank spec that didn't really deal that much of its own damage, they could make some real unique spell caster tank that makes earth based and/or time based absorb related shields as well as decent self healing while also buffing all their allies with various beneficial things which might even have build in agro direction features. Not to mention that it could be really cool to have a future version of your self temporarily tank for you if you needed some distance for some big channel spells that gave you a massive absorb shield or massive buffs to your group/raid but obviously once the future you expires you take all the damage it took for you at the same damage instances and rates that it took it.

I was originally excited because its been months without changes. I tested the stuff on the ptr and it definitely needs some more work. Hoping they can fine tune it some more.
