About Me:
My name is Yelena and I was born in the small town of Pinar Del Rio, Cuba
From the age of seven I moved to Havana and started at a boarding school studying with the National Ballet School of Cuba (A scary but exciting opportunity for me!).
I then spent the next decade learning and honing my skills as a ballerina. Skills which I would then use to turn myself into a professional touring ballerina touring around Cuba.
With limited opportunities in my own country, I then took the amazing leap to traveling abroad and was lucky enough to be sponsored by a company to work in a stage show in China of all places!
Since then I have continued to perform and travel, and most recently have begun teaching. I truly believe I have lots of ideas to share with you as well as a in-depth view of the cuban ballet methodology for ballet.
My aim is purely to help you learn and enrich your ballet technique and increase your love for dance! ❤️

Thank you so much for this training. I had not got before that the knee should come all the way up first, and then stay still while the lower leg extends. (67 yr old, new to ballet)

Aww thanks ☺️ my pleasure. I have seen few students and teachers sharing online tips to get higher developpes to the side, which in my opinion I don’t believe is necessary to do so. I learn that developpes happens by using the inner thigh to bring the leg up and continue by stretching the rest of the leg. Hope it makes sense. Stay safe and keep the hard work.

Do you have a favorite stretch routine for the lower back and leg flexibility required? I am struggling and I've been dancing for over ten years at this point.

I understand your struggle, and it's important to note that I am not an expert. However, based on personal experience, there are a few stretches that can be beneficial for improving lower back and leg flexibility. One stretch that targets the lower back is the Cat-Cow stretch, where you alternate between arching and rounding your back. For leg flexibility, stretches like the seated forward bend and hamstring stretches can be helpful. Remember to always warm up before stretching and listen to your body to avoid overstretching. It's also worth considering consulting with a dance instructor or a physical therapist who can provide personalized guidance and exercises tailored to your specific needs. They will be able to assess your technique, identify areas for improvement, and guide you through a targeted stretch routine. Keep practicing and don't get discouraged - progress takes time, and with consistent effort, you can continue to improve your flexibility over time.
