=======
Today we hear the Combat Story of former Navy SEAL and Naval Special Warfare Development Group (or DEVGRU) operator Chris White. Chris spent two decades in the Teams pre-9/11 and was in the first wave of contractors fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq with Blackwater and similar companies early in the war.
Chris hasn’t shared his story previously and did so, in part, to set the record straight on the experience of contractors in the post-9/11 era who had often been painted in a particularly negative way by the media.
Chris now operates Tier One Tactical where he delivers expert training to people, particularly those in law enforcement, in shooting and tactical engagements.
I hope you enjoy this wide ranging and insightful look at Chris’ experiences in both the elite levels of the Navy’s Special Operations community and his experience as a contractor in some incredibly challenging fighting, as much as I did.

I’m a 22 year old woman and I’m training to become a U.S. Navy SEAL. I’m a civilian and I want to go enlisted. I know five other women that are training for BUD/S, one of them is in BUD/S Prep right now. What advice would you give for women that want to be SEALs? How does the SEAL community feel about women joining them? Do you think women should be allowed to become Navy SEALs? Most female SEAL candidates struggle with carrying the boats and logs, doing pull ups, having grip strength and completing the “Dirty Name” on the obstacle course. Also, a lot of female SEAL candidates break their legs or develop stress fractures. Women have smaller and thinner bones than men.

@@Anonymous18817 the only way any female can make it into any program like NSW or even marines are by vastly lowering the physical standards to the point it’s dangerous to have them serving in units as they can’t carry the weight or last in a combat environment long enough it’s just a fact of biology not moral failure. Women are just not made the same way and these units all require an elevated level of physical strength and endurance evem most males can’t meet naturally, that’s why there’s so much rampant drug use, steroid use, hormone and other illicit stuff going on. Not to mention issues w hard drugs once in service. And all the sleeping pills, alchohol, etc it’s a mess. I’m sure they have lower standards for female entrants but it’s a lifetime of degradation and Ill health before you even get into combat damage. Good luck .

It was the same way in the fire service for many years and depending on where you work, it’s still the same. Train hard, work hard and the rest will take care of itself, eventually.

@firerose4271 you better start lifting weight and doing a strength training program to get some muscle mass and more done density because you're not going to make being a female without it. Also start getting use to swimming in first now rather than later. Majority the stress fractures that happens are on the legs and those happen because guys aren't use to swimming in fins and cause tightness in the ankles

@@Anonymous18817there have only been 2 women who graduated the Marine Corps Infantry Officer Course in 8 years. Both left the infantry within 2 years or less. There’s a reason for that. A lot of women wanted IOC when I was in and it was unavailable to them. The first shitty FEX with rain and 40 degree weather for a week broke a lot of hearts. And that doesn’t include humping 60+ Lb packs for miles. It’s a mindset, and you either have it or you don’t. Physical capability plays a part but the mindset is more important. Either way, I never gave a shit if a woman was there or not. Pull your weight, be dependable, and don’t weigh the team down and you’ll be treated as an equal. You’ve got a big hill to climb. @@Anonymous18817hope you are above average...but even so it would be hard. Tbh I think the logistics in military is undervalued. A detail oriented, and someone who thinks for both the soldiers and the big picture. Even if SEALs isn't for you. I'd do some research to find who does logistics for the elite.. Or who does the emergency response asap style logistics. And go for that. The issue with females in combat roles (as a female) is why work in the part of the field that shows oft our weaknesses? And makes the men around us weaker. Why not pick a roll that a woman could do better than men. Highly detailed organized work.

Sooooooo, I was a contractor just outside of Baghdad in early March of 2004 and later worked as a PSD guy for BW beginning in mid-2005 in Baghdad. The guys NAILS it and brought back a lotta memories for me. Totally correct about contractors and contracting then. Some guys were completely dialed in but OTOH you just wouldn’t believe the idiots who were hired and sent to Iraq. And it was really dangerous in Iraq back then-especially if you were a contractor who spent any time on the road because there was no intel, no QRF, no comms, no up-armored vehicles, and we didn’t even have maps. Half of the guys on my first contract wouldn’t even wear body armor traveling on the road because, “it’s too hot” or “it’s too uncomfortable”. Yeah, we did some really stupid shit and it’s only a miracle more of us weren’t killed. But it was exciting. The crazy thing is not a days goes by that I don’t miss being there-of course I have that luxury because I was very, very, very lucky.

@@kerrypope767 YES very true. He wanted Dick ( Richard M) to find Military Bases weaknesses. So many of those Bases top Brass were pissed at the SEAL team. Because in my Humble opinion it would slow their promotions.

Oscar “Jinx” survived, was in the hospital for 9 months, multiple surgeries and eventually made it into the Special Programs with me. Former Recon Marine. He’s on a detail in Dubai now. ABY The lady killed in Hillah hated “Security guys” and used to berate us daily. She told us she was there to help the locals and didn’t need us. We were under no obligation to protect her as she was USAID, not DOS. She was killed at a fake check point with her local driver. They were shot in the back of the head and stuffed in a trunk. They were found by a Marine patrol a few days later. Goldberg is a cop in TN now.

Having worked with a LOTTA DOS and USAID folks I’m truly surprised she even had a pistol. When I went thru the DOS counter-terrorism course (I don’t recall the specific DOS name for it) at Bill Scott Raceway we had a familiarization class with a several popular handguns (Glock, Beretta, SIG) our class was told by the instructor that if anybody had moral objections to handling firearms that didn’t have to touch them. In my experience USAID dudes/dudettes are even MORE sensitive-although the best food I ever ate in Iraq was at the USAID compound in the IZ.

@@IRACK-mq6tf yes sir, agree with your assessment of USAID folks. She really did hate us for some reason. I don’t think she had a pistol or any weapon nor did her driver. BSR is a great course! I did BW, ISI and another one I cant seem to recall now. Getting old sucks. Lol.

@@RamadiTaxiDriver60M Back in 05’ I was on the USAID compound in the IZ talking to this Brit who was their security manager. You know how most of the IED’s went off in the mornings when convoys began to move and/or they were discovered? Well the Brit told me how one morning a USAID guy angrily called him on the phone complaining about the sound of IED’s and IDF detonating, “These explosions are really beginning to be disconcerting! Isn’t there something you can do about them!?” All I could say was, “Wowwwwww…………”

Was around BW in 2005 in Mosul. Lives with them and helped save them after a couple incidents. Super not impressed. They were overly arrogant jerks until they needed us. I remember responding to an incident where one of their SUV’s got hit by an ied. When we showed up they were arguing about how many and who were in the SUV that got hit which was burnt to the ground. They couldn’t control their emotions at all. Listening to this makes sense. They ALL had the same story. E5s in the Marines with 3-6 years experience pre GWOT.
