The Devil in a New Dress is a riff on the classic cocktail and industry favourite, a Last Word. This drink was created for our 50 years of Hip Hop menu in the Cellar Bar - a menu paying homage to some of our favourite tracks from half a century of this iconic genre. This drink is an equal parts mixture of Devil’s Botany London Absinthe, Maraschino Liqueur, Del Mago Chinato vermouth and Lemon Juice.
INGREDIENTS:
🇬🇧 25ml Devil’s Botany London Absinthe
🥃 25ml Del Mago Chinato
🍷 25ml Maraschino Liqueur
🍋 25ml Lemon Juice
🍒 Maraschino Cherry for Garnish
EQUIPMENT:
-Shaker
-Jigger/Measure
-Hawthorn Strainer
-Fine Mesh Strainer
-Elbow Press
-Cubed Ice
METHOD:
1) Chill a Martini glass or coupette in the freezer or by filling it with ice
2) Using your jigger to measure, add all ingredients to your Boston glass or bottom half of your shaker
3) Fill with cubed ice and seal
4) Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds
5) Remove glass from freezer or empty it of ice
6) Double strain drink into chilled martini glass or coupette
7) Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a few drops of the syrup
8) Serve and enjoy!
HISTORY:
This drink was created by TT’s head of bars Sasa Ruvidic for our 50 years of Hip Hop menu in the Cellar Bar. For this menu we took inspiration from some of our favourite classic hip hop tracks from half a century of this iconic genre and created drinks to pair with them. This spin on a Last Word is named after Kanye West’s banger of the same name from his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

The Last Word, this drink’s predecessor, is a drink dating back to the 1910s that itself is a riff on another, even older classic cocktail, the Corpse Reviver No. 2. Both these drinks are based on an equal parts recipe of four ingredients - a base, two modifiers and a citrus. This has become the formula for a whole host of delicious preprandial cocktails which have gone on to become industry favourites.
