1. I didn't say that Vergil's DT is a normal one. 2. "Vergil was tired" is fucking lame. 3. I don't see how Nero killing Vergil would deeply affect him when he barely knows the fucker.

@@KoylTrane Yes, to explain how a mostly normal human could do it. Nero's big moment of triumph, the end of the Sons of Sparda story, loses all of its punch if the idea is that any old rando off the street could have beaten Vergil eventually if we keep throwing dudes at him until he tired out. That's probably realistic, but not at all satisfying.

Just because it's "lame" to you doesn't negate that it's fact... That's what happened Dante and Vergil had been fighting continuously over the course of the game not to mention when urizen and v combined they were both at death's door- Dante telling nero he'll sit this one out before he literally passes out is a clear sign of exhaustion Nero might not know Vergil but imagine thinking your parents abandoned you all your life and then you finally meet one but your UNCLE is hell bent on killing him Im honestly surprised you can't understand a very human reaction after analyzing how human dmc actually is Vergil thanked Nero not just because he helped put him back together but because he had spent time with him and just a Nero sparked Dante's light again he also Sparked Vergil's humanity- because of that he even questions if things would be different had him and Dante switched places also the reason Dante couldn't best his brother like all the times before wasn't due to power but moreso his clouded judgement- he got sloppy, aggressive, uncoordinated and just flat out tired which is why vergil had told him when he first returned to rest and heal his wounds.. He wasn't just talking about physical wounds he was talking psychological wounds

My read on Trish's "you can't kill your own father" bit is that she's seen Dante's fall into a depression that he didn't get out of for almost a decade, knowing what Nero has in Fortuna, doesn't want Nero to go down a similar path. Lady's line of "it's true. You'd never recover," leads me to believe that, while knowing it was necessary, she wish that she still had her only blood relatives alive and with her in the world.

Ok, a few things. - The fact that Vergil took the time to ask himself if "their fates would be different," is a massive indicator that Vs development does directly carry over to Vergil, as both the game and canonical side manga Visions of V showcase throughout their stories that V is effectively Vergil's entire consciousness. -Vergil was given a massive amp by not only the acceptance and reconnection with his humanity, but also the fruit that, according to Trish, was responsible for at least a note worthy portion of mundus' power, a good way of showing this is by looking at the fact Vergil has a Sin Devil Trigger to match Dante's, as his normal DT can be found in the concept art. -Power ups in DMC seem to function like level ups in JRPGs that raise AND restore your stats, Dante got a second wind when he first used DT, Nero got a MASSIVE second wind when he used his stand DT, so on and so forth, which brings me to the "Vergil was tired is lame" - Nero is in no way shape or form more powerful than Dante or Vergil, he was as close to fresh as he could've been in the situation, and Dante and Vergil had just been beating the ever loving shit out of each other, which we know from DMC3, stamina is incredibly important as Arkham beat Vergil and Dante's asses because they were completely spent on energy, not only that but Vergil was very possibly holding back somewhat against Nero as he wouldn't want to kill his family (he doesn't want to kill Dante, he just wants to *beat* Dante) and him and Dante pretty casually slapped Nero away when they were getting ready to cut down the tree. It doesn't matter if you "think it's lame," that is simply the established scaling of the three, Dante=Vergil>Nero

On top of Nero fighting Vergil fresh out of his fight with Dante, which they were just about to finish (and which I do personally believe in the proper story playthrough would have ended in death of atleast one, likely both of them), I do feel Nero's victory mainly works as proof of him having a heavier reason to fight Vergil than vice-versa. By the end of DMC5 Vergil and Dante were basically fighting each other for sake of the fight itself, for a warped notion of some destined conflict carried on from animosity of their last fight decades ago, clouding their judgement from the fact that were they to recognize how far they'd come since, there'd be no real point or need in them carrying on as enemies. Meanwhile, Nero's reason for fighting was to stop them from killing each other, to save the family he hadn't known he had and have them see reason on how that twisted notion of one son of Sparda needing to best and end the other was what had caused the mess world currently found itself in during DMC5's story. Unlike with his obsession over fighting Dante, Vergil bore no animosity towards Nero and thus had no real incentive to fight him, underscored by the nonchalantly amused, borderline joking manner in which he extended his fight with Dante onto Nero and him starting that fight by telling Nero to stand down and that he needn't to get involved. That framed his duel with Nero as little more than a formal challenge from someone too stubborn and proud to admit defeat to someone, despite knowing they make a good point. Not to mention it's a fight in which Vergil, man who's come to define himself by his heritage and legacy, had to face the most literal embodiment of his own personal legacy; there was no way for him to win it without undermining himself to some extent. So I do believe on his end it was about measuring Nero's resolve and curiosity over what his son was capable of, more than anything.

@@jondoe7036💯 concur. It was sparring and measuring up in those deeper newfound contexts. The only cons I could bring up are that the interstitial cutscenes seem a bit haphazard. The missions and timing were a bit jagged and not seamless. Some of the story in the back half were harder to keep coherent, but they did the ending masterfully. Japan seems to be really good at ending videogames but absolute trash at ending animes (probably intentional cliffhangers), though I Believe it's getting better with global streaming.

I feel like that comes across in how Vergil is written even before 5. His obsession with power isn't logical at all, it's a reaction to the fear and helplessness he felt as a child, and his inability to get past it. Of course he can't admit that he feels helpless, which is why he literally yeets himself into hell in DMC3 rather than talk to Dante when he points out the holes in vhis logic. If anything 5 reframing Vergil's trauma as his own helplessness is just clarifying something that was there already.

A few things: 1. I saw your pinned comment of saying vergil is tried isn't an excuse of why he lost to Nero. Don't you remember back in DMC3 where arkham managed to get the jump on Lady,dante and vergil because they were tired? i say him being tired is a very valid excuse 2. Dante isn't weaker than vergil,they are equal and would have probably killed each other if nero didn't stop them 3. It is referenced in the notes that lady still feels bad about killing her dad which is why that plot point is there

I would like to add to your first bullet that the Before the Nightmare novel also mentions how Vergil was exhausted and weakened due to his fight with Dante when he went against Mundus (hence why he lost brutally), so in total, there were two known instances of Vergil's exhaustion from fighting Dante playing into his performance.

Yeah and also my thoughts are that making Nero stronger than SDT without any artifacts would be kind of stupid. Like it took Dante DS sparda and rebellion combined to gain SDT and the devil fruit for Vergil to gain his. For Nero to just outclass them by shouting would be...dumb. But if Nero does get a similar artifact, he can potentially get far stronger. But right now, him being stronger doesn't really make sense. Even in gameplay, the attacks that SDTs have for both Dante and Vergil vastly outclass and outdamage any of Nero's (except buster arms breakage move).
@MrSandmanTBB
@MrSandmanTBB 3 жыл бұрын
He also couldn't use devil trigger in his fight with arkham, which he not only does in his fight with nero but actually stays in it for the rest of the fight because he's actually being overwhelmed in terms of raw power by his own son. And that's just one thing you can point to, there is so much that points to nero having become on par with the brothers through raw power outside of just this fact, but everyone ignores them all because so much of the community still hasn't fully accepted nero, and would rather give reasons as to why he's inferior
@gurnoorsekhon6402

@@MrSandmanTBB so you really believe Nero is capable of one shotting full powered Dante? Cause Dante and Vergil at this point are equals and if you are saying Vergil was at full power, that means so was Dante. But he got k.o.ed in one backhand. Honestly nobody is denying Nero anything but if you wanna go against what's clearly shown in the game, sure. Like, even in gameplay, none of Nero's moves even compare to those of either Dante or Vergil's SDT. Also, why couldn't he use his DT against Arkham?
@MrSandmanTBB
@MrSandmanTBB 3 жыл бұрын
@@gurnoorsekhon6402 there's a difference between dante not expecting a backhand to be that strong, and knocking the wind out of him, and vergil going harder than he did with dante in their fight previously (going in dt and staying in it, which is supposed to be dangerous for anyone with a devil trigger). I'm not ignoring anything, it's everyone else taking the "he was tired" argument way too far and ignoring everything else that would point to what the devs were trying to do themetically through gameplay, cutscenes, and even the name of the mission (true power). If vergil could have used dt vs arkham he would have, when he gets angry he goes all out which is why he started using dt in the second fight with dante, that was an instance of him being actually 100 percent exhausted and unable to do so, which means it's not comparable to his fight with nero where he was in a position to do so. Side note, the dlc implies if nero had never shown up, that the brothers would have fought an even more all out battle and the mission 19 one was just a warm up. Also both showdown and buster arm buster are on a similar level of damage to the sdt super moves, with judgement probably doing less damage overall, and the devil arms channel neros latent demonic power that he's unable to control without the devil bringer. I think in general you're taking a lot of stuff out of context and trying to mash them together

5:39 I don't think that's the case. I think he's trying to spare Nero from making the same mistake he did. Dante never really got over having to kill Vergil and he didn't want Nero to go through that. Bro, I'm the same way with Doom. People take John Carmack's infamous quote about stories in games way too far. It was outdated before he even said it, as there were already plenty of story-focused games at the time, such as the Final Fantasy, Ultima, and Metal Gear franchises. Even Sonic the Hedgehog already had lore about ancient civilizations killing each other over the Chaos Emeralds just to explain why the islands in the games are deserted. Sandy Petersen is the guy who wrote the game's story (along with some other contributions by Adrian Carmack and Tom Hall). There's all this crazy stuff like Doomguy's family tree (he's the son of Commander Keen), the UAC Mars Division having waste-disposal and terraforming projects (explaining the explosive barrels and chainsaws), the plot twist about the lost Deimos base turning out to be in Hell after it got swallowed by its own portal (and all the foreshadowing to this handled through Sandy and Adrian's environmental storytelling), and not to mention where certain Hell levels, Pandemonium, Mt. Erebus, Gate to Limbo, and Dis are sourced from. (Ever read Paradise Lost or The Bible?). And that's just the first game! I haven't even talked about The Spaceport or the things that happen in Evilution or Plutonia, Crash & Phobos, The Cyberdemon Lord's backstory, or Doomguy making the decision to remain in Hell after slaying The Mother Demon (presumably, Lilith) to prevent another demon invasion from happening. It feels a lot like Superman, where people have such a fundamental misunderstanding about the lore that's present, and dismiss it entirely, assuming that a base understanding is as deep as it goes. Everything from Doom 3 onwards is just so self-serious where no one seems to be allowed to so much as crack a smile, and virtually all the mythology of the classic games is just dumped completely, like whoever's writing is trying to fix something that isn't broken. It's crazy how enraged some people have gotten when I've mentioned this, as if they so desperately want to believe that the stories in games like Doom Eternal "created something out of nothing", and having to face the existence of the classic mythology would take that away that "specialness" from them.

In DMC3, Dante tears off the right sleeve of his jacket when he gains access to his Devil Trigger form, leaving his human forearm mostly bare on the right side with the torn sleeve. With Nero, after unlocking his full Devil Trigger form in 5, has him grow a human arm, which is shown bare on the right coat sleeve,... which is torn...

I think about why Vergil resonates so deeply with many lifelong fans (blue, dark slayer, brooding and serious, perfectionist, trick teleportation) and I attribute it mainly to Vergil's perfect trifecta of weapons: katana, martial arts, and Dante-style sword. They are perfectly complete to tackle every game situation from 3 to 5 and that's why capcom may seem lazy in not switching it up but no they know it's perfect and you don't mess with it. They probably created it after dmc1's Alastor & Ifrit but with a Japanese katana style

When Dante says that their mother died trying to save him to Vergil, I immediately thought to myself, "Dante doesn't understand Vergil." instead of "Oh, it's because of their mother." Sure, you could chalk it up to the writers actually telling us the reason behind Vergil's motivation, but then that almost discredits Vergil's line of "without strength, you can't protect anything. Let alone yourself." implying that protection is more important and who would Vergil want to (or have wanted to) protect? I feel like this lack of understanding between the brothers was also shown in DMC3 when, while clutching his amulet and choosing to plummet down to the demon world, Vergil cuts Dante's hand to keep him from reaching him. In that scene, it's hard to understand what either brother is thinking. Did Dante reach for him to save him or to grab the amulet? Did Vergil cut his hand because he wanted Dante to let him go or did he do it to protect the amulet? The lack of understanding between them felt like a constant theme that played all the way up to DMC5 where they still never understood each other and were willing to kill each other regardless. But in comes Nero who, even though he didn't understand anything about those two, understood something better than either of them. He had no family growing up until he was adopted. The brother he did have was taken from him and ever since then, he felt like he was too weak to protect anyone. He is the perfect combination of Dante's want to protect others and Vergil's lust for power. So he understood them better than either of them could understand the other. That's why Nero ultimately won out against them. Because his ideology was the correct one and, as such, had no doubt or hesitation in it. But that's just my 2 cents.

In my own interpretation, I think Nero only beat Vergil is because of his combined exhaustion from fighting Dante, and severely underestimating him. It may be even because of his memories as V, being reluctant to attack Nero from their odd camaraderie. As for why Dante lost, well, we have to remember, he probably didn't have that much rest in between waking up from his month long coma, fighting hordes of demons to get to his house, fight Urizen, fight more demons, then King Cerberus, post-Qlipoth fruit Urizen, the familiars, and then Vergil. Unlike Vergil, Dante wasn't well rested and had just gone off from multiple battles while Vergil's at tip top condition after his re-emergeance. Though the cutscenes after M19 does sort of imply that it wasn't exactly a victory and more like a tie with how he seemed to be tired as well. Sure, we can't deny that Nero finally achieving a great feat through his own power, he's not exactly at the level of the twins just yet. Besides, look at Vergil's reaction. He just says 'Interesting' in a sort of amused and proud tone. He's getting there, but he still had ways to go.

A possible explanation for why Vergil was on Dante’s level at the end of the game is because he’s finally come to terms with his humanity, as Urizen after getting powered up by the fruit was decimated by Dante while Vergil wasn’t. Logically he wouldn’t have received that much power from V, so what he did get, his humanity, is likely what gave him the leg up to be Dante’s equal.

Re: "Dante can't beat Vergil" I've never seen the finale in such a way that Vergil has "become stronger" than Dante. By the game's own metric, you *do* win the fight, it's just that Vergil gets in one last cheap shot. Both of them end the fight in a similar state of exhaustion, and both are still able to muster up a DT for the final charge right before Nero arrives. I like to think of it less as "Vergil is stronger than Dante", but more like "Dante and Vergil just can't defeat each other". They've reached deadlock both in power and in narrative. Vergil has fallen so deep into his despair that Dante can no longer reach him. Which is a strange thing to think about because Dante is narratively supposed to have reforged his will and his determination when he obtains Devil Sword Dante, which is enough to let him overcome Urizen. I can only assume that once Vergil is reunited that something *has* grown within him from his time as V and that he does acknowledge his own humanity, matching both Dante's growth in power and conviction (and even giving Vergil his own Sin Devil Trigger!). The stronger Dante grows, the harder Vergil has to strike back. And although Vergil might acknowledge his humanity, he does not yet embrace it the way Nero does. I have to refute that "Vergil is an idiot" because even intelligent people can make foolish and irrational decisions based on their emotions (there's a reason we often draw a distinction between "intelligence" and "wisdom" after all!). The games do a fantastic job of illustrating that Vergil *is* powerful, and he has achieved this power by doing things his way, with his own conviction. He takes pride in his lineage and the power it grants him, which is why he *refuses* to ever admit that Dante is right. Even still, there are parts of Vergil that cannot help but acknowledge Dante as both a rival and a brother (the bridge of Bury the Light even borrows the chorus from Devils Never Cry!), and even once all the Underworld-portal-opening tomfoolery is over with, the brothers are *always* going to fight.

DMC5, the whole series (minus DMC2) really, is so strangely well-written it's great to see someone actually talking about the themes and subtext. It's always been rare, as people usually are content to call it "goofy and cool," exclusively. I think the ending was perfectly written. Nero is still nowhere near as strong as Dante and Vergil (in terms of raw power), but that's not the point. He has succeeded them both in being able to fully accept who he is and made the choice to tempur his human and demon aspects into a force for good. Worthy of note is that, since it's implied that the final attack between Dante and Vergil would've killed them both, Nero is able to succeed where they failed specifically *because* he was doing it for the right reasons. It's so well written that the subtext matches what is literally happening on-screen where the god-like sons of Sparda are clashing until they hardly have anything left, and are broken up by the sensible character who just achieved self-actualization, and he specifically uses it to end the conflict through diplomacy. Once Nero breaks up the party, it never once felt like there was any killing intent for any of the 3 characters present. They instinctively knew that it would be wrong to kill each other in that moment and going forward. It's why Dante cheekily sits the fight out, because he knew it wasn't his fight, and also as insurance in case Vergil's idiotic tendencies went overboard and he gave in to wanting to kill Nero (which was already highly unlikely). The scene reads as Dante and Vergil defeated *themselves,* and only through the intervention of someone more mature than they are do they agree to put their serious killing intent on hold indefinitely, as they realize it would be pointless for them to off each other. Vergil is such an interesting character in particular because his words hardly ever match his actions as he matures. He *is* becoming more wise as he ages, but he would never admit to it, as he's still insecure about it and always will be. Because of Nero he's finally begun to come to terms with it, and it's shown through his actions, not his words. He will always be a dick, but he's finally begun to realize the point he was missing his whole life, and is willing to acknowledge his insecurities. Not well, mind, but anything is better than nothing. Never forget his talk with Nero at the start of their fight. "Nero..." The line is delivered perfectly, and I'm fairly sure it's the *only* time Vergil has ever dropped his facade of being in control of everything in his life. He's really vulnerable in that fight, and it clearly changed him.

In terms of overall power, Dante and Vergil are clearly more powerful. However, Nero and his Buster arms are on a different level of physical strength. I'm sure Dante and Vergil can't outmatch Nero when it comes to raw strength output. But in a 1v1 fight where raw physical strength isn't the only factor, Dante or Vergil comes out on top. You got to hand it to Nero though (pun intended), he is way more power than Dante and Vergil during the events of DMC 3. He has the most potential currently. It seems that there's a theme or pattern of descendants overcoming their predecessor. Dante and Vergil overcoming Sparda, and eventually Nero overcoming Dante and Vergil.

He probably did know, but that part was part of Vergil's humanity so Urizen would not remember, he would only remember the source of that desire and some of its events. Urizen is Vergil's desire for power by any means, without V, it is unrestrained. Which is why it took forever to decide for Vergil to awaken the Temen-Ni-Gru until Arkham came along. V is Vergil's humanity as well as its decay after being forcefully subverted to Mundus' will, as Mundus would have tried to strip Vergil's humanity or weaken it in order to have more control over Vergil. Demonic will seems to instinctually serve whoever is the strongest.

vergil thought his mother abandoned him to save dante. this thought hurts him mentally. to vergil, power is like a drug he got addicted to, or should i say gaining more power. because power is what makes him feel he doesnt need anyone else and what makes him feel good about himself after his mother abandoned him (even though eva actually saved dante first because dante was near her in the house while vergil was in some sort of a play ground when the demons attacked). telling vergil about humanity is the real shit is like telling an addict drug is not the answer, the guy can change, just not that fast. V literally said to nero, "the brothers dissagree on the very reason of their existence." as in vergil and dante disagrees on each other's view on life and actively trying to prove the other are wrong and their view is better. their battles are just a more dramatic version of their fights when they were kids which ties together neatly with dmc's theme of family. nero on the other hand thinks that family always comes first. the guy was left by his mother on birth and had issues with his self worth. he couldnt protect credo and got kyrie into some hot mess in dmc4 but dante helped him and even entrusted his brothers sword. when nero and kyrie moved to redgrave dante gave them another gift in the form of dmc neon sign, welcoming them to his "family". and then nero got his arm ripped off and lost yamato, the thing that was entrusted to him by his benefactor and someone he respected. of course he got mad when dante called him deadweight. that is the one word nero is scared of in his entire life. nero hated his weakness, believing he let people close to him down because of it. dante knew about nero's view on family. that is why he actively push nero away from fighting vergil. dante predicted nero would try to help vergil only to fail and get himself killed. dante knew vergil best at this point but dante failed to help vergil even before vergil dropped this far into darkness. however, nero eventually comes to understand vergil's true feelings after his interactions with V and in a way, nero's humanity influences V to some extent to the point where vergil wonders about if his position and dante's were switched. nero coming into the climax of dante vs vergil is basically a guy saying stop it, get some help. vergil lost to nero not only because of his exhaustion, but also because he lacks motivation in this fight. let vergil stab nero with yamato and see for yourself. his facial expression is so different compared to when he stabs dante in mission 19.

In my personal opinion I think Vergil understands he needs his humanity to be powerful, after allhis fully demonic part lost to Dante. However he refuses to accept this knowledge, for one reason or another being a sunk cost fallacy that he has spent so much time in pursuit of demonic power that there must be a light at the end of the tunnel or because he's spent so long suppressing his humanity that he has trouble expressing it and coming to terms with the fact that he needs it. And after losing to Nero he is definitely, albeit slowly, accepting it. If you notice in the main menu with Vergil and Nero on screen Vergil will look at Nero and occasionally appear to want to start a conversation with him, he simply doesn't know how so he doesn't. That's just how I view things, though, I could be wrong.

I would like to say that I have a head canon that each of the main protags practices a particular style of sword fencing, which doesn't really add to the characters but has some interesting results when applied to them. Dante = Liechtenauer or German Style Fencing, Liechtenauer is an Unorthadox, Aggressive style of Longsword combat, attacks are both Offesive and Defensive moves, and cuts and slashes are emphisised, some of Liechtenauer's moves are flashy looking some of which were intentional to intimidate the unskilled an example of this is blocking an attack from below by pushing it down with your Pummel trapping his hands then cutting the enemy from above as you push his hands down. Interesting note: Johannes Liechtenauer supposedly (we don't know from which German city called Lichtenau he is from nor even know if he is a real person but apparently he travelled and learned from different masters a lot, in a similar fashion as to the later Miyamoto Musashi) didn't leave any plain notes about his techniques as he wanted his teachings to remain a secret so instead he create a long poem called the Zettel for easy memorization. (So if you think about it Dante can in theory compose a Rock Song out of the Zettel so he can Rock while practicing swordsmanship so that Nevan scene in DMC3 just got way more interesting, another thing the 1st lines of the Zettel (the Recital in ye oldie German)reads "Young Knight, Learn to love God and Revere Women thus your honor would grow" I guess he is working on the "Revere Women" part as he has bad luck with the Ladies.) Vergil = Yagyu Shinkagen Ryu, this style of Kenjutsu is compared to most (which are said to be similar to Liechtenauer) a more cautious, quick and footwork focused style, it also emphisises environmental placement and using it to ones advantage as well as adaping to the weapons of the Enemy. Interesting Note: this style was founded by a Buddist Monk named Kamiizumi Nobutsuna (Ironic that the Power Hungry, Social Darwinist practices a style created by a Monk from a sterotypically pacifistic religion and teaches personal Growth, but this could just mean a deeper tragedy that instead of him viewing the teachings as a call for personal growth and enlightenment he instead saw it as a call for gaining more power.) Nero = Polish Style Saber Fencing, Polish style is aggressive, using fast cuts and leans with fast footwork, its noted by German Fencers that its "a Hellish Cut", unfortunately most of this art was lost thanks to how turbulent Polish history is, so modern practitioners instead fill in the gaps using other arts of the saber like German, Turkic/Steppe, Turkish and Hungarian styles. Interesting Note: this style was famously used by the Winged Hussars elite Polish warriors that as the name suggests have wings on their horses to intimidate the enemy,(Nero has wings in his DT and is part of a group of Knights) its also stated by people that its as if the practitioners aren't protecting their hands (should have seen that coming huh Nero, as for the character side if its canon than Nero is the most dedicated of the 3 as he revived a Dead/Lost Art and kind of symbolises Vergil and Dante's redemptions in that they are lost and Nero made them whole, that and the 2 not understanding what strength Nero has also works in the Fencing world as he practices a revived near extinct art of combat.) Srry got way too long to edit, but in short they don't really add much to the characters just giving very interesting results when looked at with these forms of Fencing and their practitioners philosophies and opinions on the art.

Lmfaooo Dante and Vergil are even period point blank. There isn’t any argument that can be valid enough to prove ones stronger than the other. Nero In no way shape or form can defeat a healthy Dante and Vergil. Nero only beat Vergil because he was fatigued from fighting Dante.

If there ever is a DMC6, it should be about Nero finally fighting a resurrected Mundus...I personally think there is nowhere else to go with Vergil.

I always thought vergil had unlocked his own Sin DT when he stabbed himself and split off into two, then reunited. Doesn't dmc 5 refer to Vergils new demon form as his Sin DT? Otherwise, great video!

In original DMC5, it was refered to as his regular DT but fully matured and perfected. DMC5SE, however, retconned this tidbit and turned it into his Sin Devil Trigger instead along with renaming his Summoned Swords to Mirage Blades, iirc.

2:56 Vergil let Nero win. Before the fight he is very childish, the fight makes him grow up and accept being a father which is why Vergil willingly goes to destroy the Qliphoth.

Nice video analysis, but a lil wonky info is that Vergil’s “base DT” is actually a Sin Devil trigger which is classified in Nico’s Report. The way he got it is because he resynchronized both his humanity and devil side (same as how Dante did with his rebellion to awaken it). But the Qlipoth also could’ve been an influence for it Plus there is concept art for his regular DT in game but it seems they scraped it in the game i.redd.it/osd0f3ui2lp31.jpg

I for one believe that the reason Nero won against Vergil wasn’t because somehow Nero’s devil trigger was stronger but the fact that the two strongest beings in the universe were a few seconds ago beating the crap out of each other with their full strength. So maybe that might have gotten them both in a very weaken state thus why the second Vergil fight is a lot easier than the first one. Vergil was significantly weaker at that point. Also the idea of harmony beat pure strength is a fun idea but I believe if you are fighting for your own survival you will hit a lot harder than if you are doing it to protect someone.

I think Dante kept Nero out of the loop because his nephew was doing well on his own. He had friends, love, and everything he needed to live a good life. Neither Dante or Vergil really had good life and Dante didn't want to drag him into the family war. Sadly, however, it happened regardless.

I love the story layers of Wappons in dmc. Tris who was made in the Imigi of Eva, handels the Sword Sparda, may even attacked to the sword. In dmc4 Nero can make summon swords like vergil, also Nero is very brutal and raw , not like vergi. But the for the exceed mechanic you need to be very precise like vergil.

Always appreciate your analysis videos, I usually agree with your points l, but I must say there's some things I think you missed when it comes to this one 1. Vergil is always quite stoic and understated in how he feels an expresses himself. he thanks nero for helping him. He has been shown to not always be so appreciative when he uses others for his plans 2. Nero decided to keep them from killing each other as he heard vergil (as V) mention that he only wanted to be protected and loved and how he had to fend for himself, so He acted on the knowledge vergil was not as evil as Dante portrayed him to be. 3. Vergil acted out of desperation at the start of the game separating himself as he still had some extent of Mundus' influence. The creatures V had with him were the "nightmares Vergil had during his time as nelo angelo" (something the demon side urizen discarded that the human V took in.) 4. Vergil had his full mind once he reunited v and urizen together and discarded the nightmares and it states in the nico report that vergil acquired the new devil trigger due to uniting his human and demon side together as Dante had. 5. Vergil was wrong during dmc3 and since being taken in by Mundus hasn't been able to exercise his own mind and free will which has slowed his aging (hence why Dante looks older) and why he has been unable to matureal and move past his former motivations until now. 6. While nero's victory at the end was impressive he did not fight vergil at his peak condition. Not to take anything away from one of his best moments but vergil and Dante were shocked as nero never had a devil trigger. He had a borrowed one from the yamato which was vergils (vergils devil trigger used to appear behind nero in dmc4). The form they saw at the end of dmcv was his own unique devil trigger which isn't like their own. The whole theme of legacy is relevant to nero as he didn't count himself as part of it (deadweight). Him having his DT is him finding his place in the sparda legacy in his own way. 7. Bury the light could also be interpreted as him hiding his humanity and love deep inside himself to protect it. Also a bit of trivia... Vergils black coat is actually based on an old design for dmc3

For your fourth point, I thought the familiars chose not to go back inside Vergil, and instead relieved him of his nightmares of their own volition by throwing themselves at Dante? And as for your sixth one, that wasn't Vergil's DT hovering over Nero in 4, that's actually his planned perfected DT but was later scrapped. You can notice some similarities between it and the DT he received in 5.
@conorthegreat7327

@@arkosvalkyren6690 my fourth point I said discarded in the sense he didn't keep it within himself or try to re-obtain them but you may be right that they decided to free him of the burden. As for the DT for nero in dmc 4, he didn't change form himself (just red eyes and blue aura) and mentioned he heard a voice in his head saying "I need more power" (and said he would endure the exile) and when in DT, the spectre behind him strongly resembles vergil which looks like a slightly updated version of his dmc3 DT (has the sword sheath melded in his arm which is exclusively been used for vergil). Dmc V is the first game nero uses DT and actually changes form as when he lost the devil bringer, he was unable to use any DT and relied on base strength and devil breakers. The thing I am unsure about that is I don't recall them addressing the extent of the exiles presence In Nero as obviously Vergil doesn't seem to recall this (could be a trace of his power left in yamato but that's a guess with no evidence)

i think that you really underestimated how much vergil has learned from his time as V. like when he says 'if our positions were switched, would our fates be different?'. 19 year old vergil would NEVER have even considered that because he's so impermeable to other perspectives and to the idea that he may be wrong. he still challenges dante because he thinks that one last fight will clear everything up and there's also how he gives nero his poetry book, an object that 19 year old vergil would've rejected and viewed with disdain as a human weakness

I personally like to think that Vergil’s SDT was obtained because of his acceptance of his humanity finally, at that point when Dante had beaten Urizen he had finally realized that the approach he was taking this entire time was completely wrong and didn’t even bother to struggle with accepting V back into himself. Which one could actually say that by absorbing DSS and the Rebellion, Dante accepted his devil heritage as well and obtained his SDT as well. One could say that Dante ‘accepted’ his demon heritage in DMC3 but it doesn’t exactly help that there’s multiple cases where Dante doesn’t do things normal people do because he views himself as an outcast after the events of DMC3. (Also his theme is called Subhuman and it talks about how he’s lesser than a normal person, a monster.)
