I fucking adore listening to this man talk about his music and his art. He puts SO MUCH thought and soul and heart into his music. And you can feel it so hard. Like the song WHY? on Empath. It's basically a damned musical. But it's epic as shit. And I love that Devin can make me, as a preferred metalhead, find so much joy and happiness in a song like that. I love everything this man does. I can't wait to see his acoustic show in May. So pumped to see him live for the first time. 🤟🏻😁🖤

The level that Devin writes and thinks at is just amazing! I haven't bought the album yet but I'm going to and hope to get it tomorrow. From what I've heard so far, it will be off the scale great! As his usual level of quality is. I'm almost 64. Don't quite know why I'm saying this but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that as I age, I'm finding more and more that I need music that is pushing the boundaries and I find this in Devin's music. It pushes boundaries and makes you think. Not only that though. It has a beauty that surpasses so much other music that is out there. It's not pop. It's not rock. It's in a class all of it's own. Somebody else said He's created a genre unto himself, called "Devin". And I concur!

Even if you don't see yourself as enlightened, you definitely help enlighten others - just like you say, it's not all about positivity and cheering others up, but your words and musical works without a doubt help channel thoughts and feelings, of both dark and light places, of aspects of one's mind and of the world, the universe. It may sound like hyperbole, but I do firmly believe that music has a way of helping many understand themselves and their thoughts and feelings, and I also believe that I am not alone in feeling more calm and collected (headbanging will count as the latter ^^) when listening to your works, all the while they're also provoking thought and an urge to understand the self and the environment. Sometimes it's abstract but tangible, like feeling an urge to headbang to a heavy song, other times it's more sublime and thought-provoking. Rambling aside - your works help others deal with their lives, and I hope you feel equally content in channeling your life and thoughts through your works, it means a lot to many. :)

The track "Why?" is what I crave in your music. Your clean vocals at reaching full scale with epic progression. Any time you don't sing like this I feel like you're hiding/limiting your unique talents. :) This track makes the album for me.
@stevethornton39015 жыл бұрын
I felt that one is a direct response to Hear Me. The juxtaposition of them really makes Why? shine. I hear it as Dev/the main character, speaking to his wife/SO, after the face melting in the song before. Hear Me is about accepting and listening to the beast within. Then after its exposure - He's saying "why run away?" and the choir is all "I want to go home"

@tylerjacobson80125 жыл бұрын
Luke Neufeld angry no. Disappointed? Depends on the movie. If it’s a movie that’s not metaphorical or very deep I don’t care and welcome to be open to the process. When it’s a movie like say a david Lynch movie then yeah I’d absolutely bummed. I don’t wanna know the literal points behind an artists work. I wanna find out for myself and want them to leave their points up to the listener/ watcher. The journey of discovery is one of the most rewarding and important aspects of being involved with art.
@tylerjacobson80125 жыл бұрын
Luke Neufeld others may like to be lazy and be spoon fed information but that’s the precise problem with commercial art these days. People want art to be readily accessible. They don’t wanna think for themselves. I wish Devin took a page outta david Lynch’s book and made his audience figure out his works on their own. The fact that their is college courses out there attempting to educate people on the understanding of art just reinforces my opinion. Stop spoon-feeding people your art so they buy it.
