It's called a "wall of sound" - very few bands get it right, but it's magical when it works. The first time I heard that term was with Blind Guardian's "A Night at the Opera" album (particularly "And Then There Was Silence") - it's more common with European Prog-Metal, but Devin Townsend and Symphony X stand out among Western Hemisphere contributors.

I loved strapping young lad. One day I was at FYE doing my usual by everything I see thing and I swear Terria by Devin Townsend and was like oh cool, fuck it, bought it. Little did I know that I was going to be blown the fuck out of my seat through the entire album. So I did the most logical thing and went back the next day and told my buddy that I needed to exchange a few of the albums I had bought and didn't open for everything Devin Townsend they had. I was in luck, they had Ocean Machine, Phycisist, and Accelerated Evolution had like just come out. Scooped up all 3. Went home and just binged on Devin for like 4 weeks straight.

Phallus Dei I wouldn't say it's flat and boring. Townsend is writing very complex harmonies an he is a musical genius. I need to give him credits for his talent. But on the other hand I can absolutely understand you. I like a few songs of him, but there is a lot of stuff I don't appreciate. The problem you have is the one I have with Dream Theatre. In my opinion they are caring too much about the technical aspects and so loosing any feeling for emotions in their music.

Did anyone interpret this video as I did? My wife recently told me she no longer loves me (yeah I know, sob story). The lyrics are very suggestive of losing someone. He talks about memories and using time to navigate those memories, lying to yourself, and offering yourself; your love. The video shows a boy and girl fighting desperately to find beauty, to find life. They're in a dead world but together they attempt to better they're environment. By doing so, their world crumbles. Everything they've known, everything around them is destroyed. They hold tight to eachother as the storm worsens and just as it seems they can take no more or that they may die, the storm breaks and life blossoms around them. Beauty and meaning now cover their once desolate world and lives. Best part of the video is when they hug eachother at the end with those big smiles on their faces. They made it. All of that struggle and fear was well, well worth it. I see this video as a message of hope- don't give up. Battle the storms and eventually, no matter how hard it becomes, it will pay off. This song and video are perfect together regardless of how you interpret them.

If Hollywood is ever going to do a series of proper ''Dune'' movies ,Devin would be perfect to compose the soundtrack for it.I mean seriously, this here is epic, beyond human recognition. Imagine something like this, playing while Paul Atreides is riding the sandworm, into battle against the Harkonnen army.

The one true Dune movie that should have been made was torn apart by Hollywood. So fuck Hollywood's version even if they do one that isn't complete shit. They destroyed a sci-fi movie that would have outshone Star Wars before its time. Jodorowski's Dune. Watch the documentary on that one, and you will completely understand. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodorowsky's_Dune

Dude, I was today years old when I realized that "I remember the rainy days in Chinatown" is a reference to Deep Peace from Terria. On the Metal Archives, the lyrics list "(inside the picture of the huge sterile black and white diner on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Chinatown)" for the place where the solo occurs. It's possible Sunday Afternoon off of Accelerated Evolution may even be referencing that: "... on a rainy Sunday afternoon." All three songs have a very similar vibe. Evidently, they're all referring to the same event Devin is talking about here. I absolutely LOVE when artists refer back to their older material like that.

This brought tears to my eyes. Just recently discovered this amazing man's talent, and I have never felt more blown away by music. It wasn't just my heart that felt this but my soul as well. God gave this man an awe inspiring set of pipes.

@Devin Townsend Appreciate the comment, but if you were the real Devin Townsend you'd be replying from your official page. Thanks for the smile though. It did give me a boost thinking that Devin really did comment. Have an awesome day ♥

@Devin Townsend No argument there; Devin does seem very down to earth as well as quite different than 99% of celebrities. I've seen Devin interact with fans, but not on youtube. Small bit of interaction with him with fans on instagram. I still appreciate your sentiment, however. ♥

I'm 42 and have listened to metal since I was a boy and am NOW getting into Dev's stuff. I first heard Kingdom which I loved and now Stormbending is my favourite. What a song! Such power and feel it has. Cheers!

What Linus said-with I listened to skater punk and stoner metal (Fu Manchu!!). Amazing, Genius level work by DTP.

This video makes me feel things. It's incredible. When done well videos can definitely add something to the music. This one certainly does. I feel like Dev's gotten himself to the place that I want to be. More peace and less inner chaos. I regret that I only have one like to give.
