I resonated a lot with what you said about the glidecam holding more of the 'human' element to the shots. It's put the pin on exactly what I couldn't figure out what I didn't like about motorised gimbals, the 'digital' look to the shots!

Glide cam for life

I just scored a Devin Graham Signature Series Glidecam on e-Bay for $192.00 + shipping. OK it was a Sunday night on a 3 day holiday weekend. It would have gone for much, much more at a better time. No, I won't sell it. I can't wait to get my hands on it. I tried a cheap unit for about 1 week before I sent it back. I never could get it to balance well w/ my Nikon D5300. Thanks.

Amazing shots as usual. Glad to see you're not non compos mentes (after seeing the 800 on the Glidecam). There are still human imperfections present using a small gimbal of course, but I get it. I don't miss my Glidecam at all though, after a couple of years constantly fiddling with balance, it's nice to have something else on my mind.

Glidecam question! Could you PLEASE go more into depth about the "off-hand"! I know you're supposed to gently furness it, however I have seen times in your bts where you're full on holding it with the offhand in order to keep your moving subject in frame. Been operating a glidecam for a few years now, but would still be nice to hear your thoughts about this in the next glidecam vid!!! 😁

Curious what your camera settings were at in the room you shot all those examples in. F stop and shutter speed as those effect the look of the stabilized image as well. It was great meeting you at NAB last week and I'm really excited to start getting into glidecam with all your tips!

Ok good video but can you show us how you actually keep focus when you’re glidecaming and you have to adjust your focus, because I know I’ve seen before that you have to make adjustments with one hand. i.e. when you’re shooting wedding videos

Hey! Can you tell us if your are using any post stabilization? If yes then what and on what settings?

The way you're able to just know the distance you'll be in focus in...damn son.

Do you use focus, either in manual or automatic?

Technically you can 3d track one of devinsupertramp's clips, and apply the same exact camera movement to a motion control rig. The point is, in my opinion, that it's not the camera movement that gives the Glidecam (or even the human element of using one), its character. Rather it's the ability to instinctively track and frame a subject. Using a brushless gimble that either locks off an axis or has predetermined delay to start turning - at a predetermined speed (barring any predetermined acceleration ramps), means that if you feel while shooting, that your composition is off you can't instinctively change it. (Sutch a setup is well suited for highly choreographed shots.) Which brings us back to the Steadicam, you can frame on the fly (no pun intended) and always be where you want to be. All the while having the camera smooth. That is the character of the Glidecam, one which isn't easily emulated by other platforms. I'm not saying that camera shake doesn't add character, just that isn't the reason that the Steadicam/Glidecam should be used. (But yes it does give it a look.) Again this is just my opinion, other people are entitled to theirs. For all I know, I'm wrong their right. Maybe we both are? Can you give techniques for holding the Glidecam, walking, running, on smooth and rough terrain, upside down? In short (long?) how you get the shot, and not so much on what you get it with. Thanks

Devin I have the DG Signature totally love it. I find the screw on the plate doesn't stay tight on my Canon 5 d Mkiv and I move around a lot less that you. Any tips?

Hey Im using the canon 18-55mm kit lens but the problem is that the Front of the lense moves when you pull focus and then my steadycam is out if balance again
