Devon and Cornwall gun licensing fiasco

At the beginning of 2023, Devon & Cornwall firearms licensing looked like it was getting its act together. Now local shooters say the fiasco with firearms licensing has flared up again.
They say the force is chronically behind on renewals. Multiple shooters across the two counties, who have been on temporary section 7 tickets for more than a year, now can’t buy ammunition.

The shooting community are amongst the worst treated people in the country yet 99% are some of the best people you could ever meet

It’s disgusting how the British police have allowed law abiding British citizens to be penalised for the failure of the police force. Training should be mandatory on things like this! And some how the training for a particular force (devon & cornwall) has caused a delay and backlog of over 2 years of firearms licence applications! There is no excuse it’s appalling. Police are supposed to provide for the community, serve and protect. I can’t see this happening. Pretty upsetting and embarrassing.

This country seems to always make innocent people pay for their big mistakes if police had done their job correctly in the first place that man wouldn't have able to do what he done I agree that checks need done and as a shooter I agree with that but why give someone who is not suitable licence like giving a drunk a licence to drive a truck definitely police at fault on this case...

I have always found Staffordshire Police regarding shotgun and firearms certificates to be brilliant in all the years that I have dealt with them !

Warwickshire licensing department were brilliant a few months ago when I sent my shotgun renewal off, all done and dusted less than two weeks (including getting my form from doctors filled in) 😊

My renewal took from September 2022 until mid April 2023 with Northants Police and took a formal complaint to PCCto get it sorted . When I chased in December I was told they were still working on February applications. And to think we pay for this service 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I’ve just put in for my FAC in Cumbria. Been told I’ll be waiting at least a year more than likely 🤦🏻‍♂️ Shambles.

Even my renewal has taken 7 months so far . My friend in Scotland only took a few weeks

8 months renewal last year Dorset, though d and c, only reason it pushed though , I spoke to Ipcc at Dorset County show

When someone is killed by a driver does the government restrict the rights of every driver? No because it would be irrational, and amounts to collective punishment, so why does this happen to gun owners every time? Collective punishment is a punishment on a group for acts allegedly perpetrated by a member of that group. Because individuals who are not responsible for the wrong acts are targeted, collective punishment is not compatible with the basic principle of individual responsibility. Collective punishment is prohibited by Article 3 of the Geneva Convention.

Tayside area, Police Scotland, variation of FAC, 3 days from handing it over with cheque to receiving ne certificate in the post.

Refused licence after a 3-year wait because I had a consultation about my MH in 2018… Devon has gone to the dogs IMO

I keep forgetting I put my Shotgun license in, as GMP haven't messaged me or my reference since I December 2022

Northumbria just as bad, I know a chap who has applied for a FAC, he is mid forties, he can only supply the last 20 years worth of medical records due to doctor changes, Northumbria have said to him they want all of his medical records before they will process his application, he has no criminal record apart from 1 speeding ticket, which was slightly over the limit !!!!!!!!!!

Fee needd increasing for a good system so they can employ more officers to do the proper checks, instead of stuck in backlog like this.

I live in North Yorkshire and have my home inspection for a shotgun certificate today having waited just over nine months from when I initially submitted my application.

I applied for my firearms certificate on the 7 November 2022 and I’m still waiting for a visit from the firearms officer for my interview

A firearms certificate should not have individual firearms on it because it would cut the work

Guns have been penalised,demonised since they made it difficult to get one,1995-96)they'll always give gun owners a horrible hard time.

Why should police do gun licences? They don't do driving licences and vehicles are deadly weapons, nor passports which can be misused, why not a Dvla type thing then shooters might have some kind of service.

The most highly policed people in the country are treated the worse,we MUST obey all laws,turn the other cheek,stay out of trouble if we have any hope in continuing with our hobby,a hobby that not only helps the farming industry with free and vermin control,but can also provide free and sustainable food for the shooter.the target shooters is a whole multi million pound industry on its own.its past time that shooters joined together to become a polical movement where we give our vote to who will stand with us and protect us.
