Are you looking for a new trimmer and can't decide which one to get? Easy, If you have Dewalt tools, or you are looking to get into the Dewalt Flexvolt lineup, OR you're in the market for a new cordless trimmer; this is your trimmer! I was very impressed!
This isn't only a Trimmer, it's an electric multitool Power Head that can run just about any attachment your gas trimmer can as far as I could tell from my trial!
My only question to DeWalt is "Will you back the customers on this Awesome tool if they want to use it with other brand attachments?"
I haven't seen any other videos that explore all these interchangeable heads, so I pulled the trigger and bought a 60Volt Flexvolt Trimmer to test it out myself! Absolute Torque, great speeds, and no compromises on power!
It's better than your dad's old corded electric trimmer!
Where this tool does well is the torque on demand!
I shot this video all on one battery!
I'm impressed! Every bit as good as my other Flexvolt Tools thus Far!
Bottom Line: This is only my opinion! I love dewalt tools but, everything you see was purchased by me!

Thanks very much cuz you made this assembly so easy that I was able to assemble mine after 1 year of waiting to have it assemble for me. It was always an excuse after one and other, I just decided to go on KZfaq and yours were the 2nd and it was the right one for me. I had did exactly what you did and everything went smooth and correct as you stated and assembled. Thanks again, you just don't know how frustrating it has been to wait for help and the worst part was, mine didn't come with any manual at all. I think your manual explanation was far greater and with smooth direction than the manufacturer manual.

Thanks, just came to figure out the little assembly that is required to get going (the insert inside the shaft of the tool). Turned out I bought the 20 V pole saw and hedge trimmer because of the better reach over the pole saw extension + hedge trimmer for the 60V model. So I have both of them, glad its using the same battery (purchased only the tools for the 20V lineup). Other comments pointed out that the 60V pole saw attachment is not as sturdy, more plastic and that the branch bar is not in metal compared to the 20V pole saw. For a small yard, not a problem, but my father plans to borrow the pole saw for his plantation and see how far we can go with them. Thanks for posting.

I bought mine earlier this year, after the 3rd use the lower bump head flew off and I lost the spring which puts tension on the lower part of the head stopping the string from flying out. Called customer support and they would not just send me a replacement spring! Recommend I bring it to a dewalt repair center... I literally only used it for a total of 2 hours, still had the string on it that came in the box. I ended up "acquiring" a replacement spring from a demo model at a local home depot lol Plus side is I already have every attachment available from my previous craftsman 4 cycle trimmer which was a far greater machine. Tree trimmer, tiller, hedge trimmer, edger and blower. I had been waiting for dewalt to make a attachment capable trimmer for a few years now and was stoked when I seen this in store! The battery was missing out of the box and home depot would only give me a partial refund taking the total to $100 and I bought a 6ah flexvolt battery with the remaining store credit. Overall a good trimmer

Absolutely fantastic video! Most comprehensive video I’ve seen so far on this trimmer! Can you confirm what brand of brush cutter you are using? You said it may be Craftsman when you initially attached it, but then hinted it may have been a Trimmerplus attachment when you were installing the hedge trimmer. Thanks for the help!
@StartBuildingYourDreams
@StartBuildingYourDreams 2 жыл бұрын
The brush cutter did come off an old craftsman but if you’re looking for new out of the box, the Trimmer Plus lineup will work with the 60v. Basically it’s a 4 blade head. They don’t cut quite as fast as a trimmer line and you have to do one or two pieces of brush at a time. But it will cut 1/2” to 3/4” pieces depending on how hard the material is.- Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! -Jon

@@StartBuildingYourDreams I just used for the first time today and holy crap that thing rips!!! I've been using an Echo SRM-225 and older PB-110 and the Dewalt did a way better and more importantly easier job of handling my 1/2 acre property. The only two dings I give it is the guard is too small and it was throwing a hail of crap all over my face and elsewhere. And the small safety lock digs into the palm of your hand if you're on and off the trigger, but I suppose over time I can use better technique or just modify that piece. I don't see why there wouldn't be 60V revolution about to happen, the power is almost unbelievable.

Most of them are trimmer plus, craftsman, or ryobi. There are some good head to head comparison videos between the bristle broom type and the rubber paddle type on KZfaq. It also depends on what job you are doing. From what I’ve gathered most folks seem to like the paddle type vs the brush. Ego, Echo, and Sthil all make different types of power broom attachments. @StartBuildingYourDreams
@StartBuildingYourDreams 3 жыл бұрын
It seems well balanced. Where I mounted the front handle, it seems like it was pretty even. Similar weight on the power heads. With the hedge trimmer you could definitely tell it was lighter even with a heavy 9AH (3AH @60v) battery. I also didn’t have the engine screaming in my ear which was a nice change. The pole saw seemed a lot lighter too even with the extension. For cutting overhead, it seamed safer and easier to handle. I’ll caveat this as I’m used to using a larger 27CC Craftsman Trimmer Head. Definitely lighter than my gas trimmer overall.

@StartBuildingYourDreams 3 жыл бұрын
Chris, Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. It really just depends how wide you want your cutting width. The tip speed of the string will be slightly faster at the 17” setup, and may use slightly more power…but probably not too much to notice. Most trimmers are set to 15”s but really you’re only gaining one inch on each side of the head. Small residential lot or more detailed work I’d use the 15” setting; for a larger lot with more to cut 17” should cut it a little faster. ~Jon@SBYD!

which head trimmer attachment do you have? what was the battery run time with the 9Ah?
@StartBuildingYourDreams
@StartBuildingYourDreams 3 жыл бұрын
Carlos, Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! I used the trimmer on mostly the low setting and got about 45 minutes to an hour of interval use as you see in the video. My best guess is about 20-30 minutes. I haven’t done a full on run test. I would expect to get about 20-30 minutes out of one of these batteries non-stop. A good example would be my dust extractor, a 6AH only ran 13 minutes. And a 9AH only ran about 18-20 minutes non-stop. Attachments I have are mostly from the Trimmer Plus lineup that you can get at Lowe’s. Hedge trimmer, Pole saw, and cultivator I used are all trimmer plus brand. The edger is an old Ryobi. The brush cutter is a craftsman. I have a couple of other old trimmer heads. A couple of spool type trimmers, and a single line heads I’ve collected over the years. The head I was using to cut grass is the 15/17” Dewalt head that comes with it. The line is .80 Dewalt. Since I’m taller I actually prefer the straight shaft trimmers as the curve shafts I had always seemed to be too close to my feet. Hope this helps! ~Jon

To put line in just line up the holes in the spool and take about 20 feet of line and push one end through the trimmer and divide the line in half like shoe laces, then turn the top of the spool and that cranks the line inside about 2 minutes

DeWalt attachments aren't even released to the public yet!! Thanks for the video you did a great job showing the tool that doesn't have a lot of content out there. I personally bought a Stihl KM 91r and I used it like twice and was sitting there like I'm a one home owner, why the heck do I need all this power!? And having to deal with gas and everything. So I just picked up one of these DeWalts. I will probably be selling the Stihl.

Ryan, True story on the “released to the public”. I looked on the box for the attachments I have and anytime you see compatible with MTD or Bolens on a box, it’s generally because another company slapped their logo on it, to include Troybilt, craftsman, JD box store mowers, and other box store brands. It seems like unless Dewalt wants to invest into all the tooling to produce all these various attachments, it would save them money to sub contract it to someone already producing them. Based on the pole saws, hedge trimmers and other Attachments I’ve seen around KZfaq, they look almost exactly the same. Stihl makes some great stuff for pros and homeowners. My dad’s had several stihl chainsaws and blowers over the years. They genuinely are built to last. Having other Dewalt tools, the Dewalt trimmer just made sense. I’d be on the fence too about selling your Stihl... good luck with your decision! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! Jon@SBYD!

@@StartBuildingYourDreams so today I just used the DeWalt trimmer for the first time and then used the Stihl back to back with it. I am genuinely stumped. I was very impressed with the DeWalt, BUT I didn't like the fact that the speed isn't a smooth step up to highest speed. It's like 4 or 5 fixed speeds as you pull the trigger. I then switched to the Stihl km 91 and that thing has serious power.

@StartBuildingYourDreams
@StartBuildingYourDreams Жыл бұрын
I personally don’t have one, but if I had to choose, I’d probably go with a Paddle Broom vs a brush. It seems to be a popular option. Echo, Stihl, EGO, and Milwaukee sell similar versions. @tractortimewithtim and @stanleydirtmonkey both have some videos that might be worth watching. You’ll just have to double check to ensure it comes with the same quick attachment style of the Dewalt. Hope this helps!

@@StartBuildingYourDreams I've seen those paddle brooms in action and they are great for clearing off the lawn and sweeping gravel, but I have a brick yard with fillets around the top perimeter of each brick and moss tends to form on them. It takes about 3 days of hard brushing to clear it off every year or two. Its a nightmare! I was hoping I could get something that would take some of the elbow grease out of the job.

Thanks for the question. I personally have never tried Echo Trimmer attachments or owned any Echo trimmers. I do use the Trimmer plus attachments and they work fine with the Dewalt. Here’s what Google came up with: Question “”Are trimmer plus attachments compatible with Echo?”” Answer (third party): “It will not fit into the receiving end of my Echo PAS. I checked both ends with my caliper. The Echo has a inner diameter of 0.975" and the outer diameter of the TrimmerPlus tubing is 0.995". The 0.02" of difference is enough to prevent insertion.” My assumption Sounds like if you tried to fit the Echo they may be too small or too loose to operate safely. Google did have some other videos on modifications…but that would definitely be a DO AT YOUR OWN Risk ⚠️. Hope this helps!

@@rkgsd I don’t like when manufacturers force you to buy their line of equipment instead of making things universal. Even as a DIY’er, I go through power heads every couple of years. The Dewalt seems to still be doing well and if you have other flexvolt tools, it makes sense.

@@StartBuildingYourDreams I have no battery-operated tools except for Black And Decker so I'll be starting from scratch either way. I actually have an unopened EGO 56V multi-tool trimmer (MST1603) , but after seeing a few videos like yours, I might exchange it for the Dewalt due to its universal attachment compatibility and it can be fitted with the famous Echo Speed Feed 400 spool.

@StartBuildingYourDreams
@StartBuildingYourDreams 2 жыл бұрын
I measured the square shafts on a couple of my attachments. They’re all universal quick attachments. The male square end that plugs into the female head measured to be about 13/64ths of an inch or 5.20mm on my dial Caliper. I personally have several different brands from Trimmer Plus, Ryobi, and Craftsman that all fit my 60v Flexvolt Trimmer. If in doubt Go with the Dewalt attachments. I think STIHL and a few other trimmers out there use brand specific connections. Let me know if this helps!

i got the same weed trimmer.. ive been documenting my time while using it just too see how long the battery will last ... . i run mine on low setting all the time and only trim grass that has grown for around 7 days ..( even on the low setting i dont max out the RPM ), I have never cut very tall grass with it so all my weed trimming will he done under normal conditions .. I bought it in May .. as of today 7-18-2021 i have weed eated my yard 9 times for a total of 95 minutes.. and i still have two lights showing on battery ( the battery has 3 light on it to indicate a fully charged battery ) my personal opinion of this trimmer is great .. how long will this battery last under normal conditions ? ..don't know, but I'll save this video and when the battery finally does run down i will add a comment to my post and let you know ..

Peter, thanks for sharing! I definitely low balled the run time, but I know It took me about 45 minutes of somewhat consistent running to shoot this video, and like you I had 2 bars left…95 minutes is impressive, but I did a no load run time test on my brushless Dewalt router and it ran a ridiculous amount of time on a 6amp hour battery at 20V. It wouldn’t surprise me if this thing would run continuously for 30-45 minutes, or close to an hour…I simply haven’t tried it yet.

How did the battery last on one charge?
@StartBuildingYourDreams
@StartBuildingYourDreams 3 жыл бұрын
William thanks for watching, I did around my whole yard yesterday about 1/3rd of an acre on one charge. It probably took about 20-30 minutes of non stop running at least. That’s around my back fence, 4 sides of the house, and around about a dozen trees and obstacles. I didn’t edge, but I’m pretty sure I would have been fine. I hadn’t cut the back since I planted new seed about a month ago. The grass was over a foot tall along the fence line, and it did really well. Hope this helps! ~Jon
