Today we dig into one of the most common problems Small engines face and how to fix that issue. So, let us check out this Dewalt Pressure washer not starting/running issue. This DeWalt 4000 PSI pressure washer would start sometimes and when it did it would run very rough.

I did this, because my power wash was not turning on, and when I made the carburetor leak, the gasoline came out really dark, mixed with water, and after that it turned on, but a bunch of smoke came out the exhaust is that normal?

Sorry for the late response, that would be normal for smoke to come out of the muffler. IF some fuel got into the muffler and it was burning off. Anytime the muffler smokes a lot it's always best to check if fuel got into the oil. easiest way to check it see if there is more than normal oil level in the sump. Hope it helps! The issue was in the carb, but it was mostly the customer that causes this much water to enter into the fuel system. Lucklt, this was a quick and easy fix. Some of these carbs can run up to $100+.

I see a couple of people with several of these units on marketplace for sale for 200-300 new or like new. This model or the 3600. Dewalt shows them discontinued with some bad reviews. But or stay away?

A lot will depend if the owner took care of the "Like New" ones. At the end of the year, they should put a "Pump Saver" through the pump to help lubricate the seals and to prevent the water in the pump from freezing causing the pump to crack. and using an ethanol-free fuel at the end of the year will help prevent the most common engine issues. As far as the "New" ones, If there was no fuel added to the unit and they have a document with the units Serial number showing it is "New" then I would buy it. Most of the units Ive seen just need a tune-up or something very minor if the owner has taken the aforementioned steps. Here is a link to the type of "Pump Saver" we use for storage and winterizing the pumps, except we use the 10oz can due to the ammount of PWs we repair. @dingdingding4033 so I did finally get it to work for 2 jobs. Not sure if the oil just needed to cycle though a but but I read some scary reviews on it so fingers crossed it keeps working. Any luck with yours? Or did you return it?

If it is new, then I would take it back to the store and get a replacement. If you do too much to try to get it running again then it could void the warranty. If you would like to separate the issue between the fuel system and the electrical side you could spray a small amount of brake cleaner in the carb and if it starts there could be an issue with the carb. If it does start, try draining some fuel out of the carb into a glass jar to see if there is anything in the fuel.

@TheSmallEngineMechanic Thanks! So I figured something out. It works everytime if I spray the gun while pull starting it. Lol really wierd but it's the only way I can get it to start. I appreciate your reply.

@666SLAYTANIK by squeezing the trigger, it allows the water in the pump to be released. If not, as soon as you start to pull, start it the pump will start making pressure and will make it harder to start.
