Our lifetime of TOOL RANKINGS : torquetestchannel.etsy.com
Today we allegedly test the looks a lot like DeWALT might be a model number like DCF961 some might call it internally (wherever internally might be) "Project Ludicrous" torque. We do not own this tool, it merely stopped by the shop and our testing equipment exchanged salutations with it.

If I were DeWALT, this is exactly what I would do for a pre launch campaign for a flagship product. Stick a fairly polished prototype out there under the guise of a leak, let it circulate for a while to tool channels, especially those tough to get on board ones. Let them have a whack at it for a bit, maybe even take some notes for a revision later on. Then make a small fuss about the leak to further spread the word, but not enough to piss the market off. Then a few weeks later, before the competition’s marketing and R&D department gets crapped on and whipped back into their skunkworks, release the finished product.
@TorqueTestChannel
@TorqueTestChannel Жыл бұрын
I'm not saying it's not possible. But the means by which we got this took a lot of... uh convincing we'll say to allow it to show up here. DeWALT is all about embargo dates to show a tool, dates you can test a tool. I very much do not think this is suppose to be seeing many eyes.

Definitely not saying it is absolutely what they did. Just saying that, as unlikely as it may be (I don’t know enough about the back story to make any claims), it would be a clever way to get it done. Basically, if they wanted to make it seem unlikely, they (not exclusively “they” either) have very deep pockets to pay very clever people to make it happen that way. I imagine they can’t just ship you guys a tool, and say: hey look at this cool toy, as you guys would instantly get a spidey sense that there was a plot behind it. Also don’t undervalue the value of your channel, which is all about facts, impartial testing and has a lot of trust from your audience, as a consequence. Additionally, don’t underestimate how much a brand/marketing team/agency with enough budget, would covet that kind of quality exposure, especially when that channel doesn’t take sponsorship deals. I suppose we’ll have a better understanding when we see how they inevitably handle it: If they 1: steer into the slide/indifference, it was likely accidental, but they are happy with the outcome, or it met certain KPIs for the budget. 2: offer small resistance, in which case, they either knew it was going to happen, or started to react poorly, but saw value in capitalising on the mistake. 3: scorched earth meaning it was completely accidental and they’re doing damage control instinctively but detrimentally. If it’s either one of those first two, my money is on them engineering the whole thing, which would be worthy of a tip of the hat. Especially since it would mean they played all of us perfectly and likely would be the first and only time it will ever happen on TTC. That in itself would be worth gold to them in bragging rights over the competition, being able to penetrate a market that was otherwise impossible to reach. I’m a software engineer in a marketing department, with over 15years experience in, around and with similar schemes in the digital space. So even though I wouldn’t go so far as to say that they outright did, I know it’s absolutely possible that they could given enough time, budget and motivation. Accidental or not, your video has done more for them than 100’s of thousands of dollars in marketing spending ever would have. Anyway, just my 2c and great video! Nice to see we can still get more beans from a saturated market of “high torque” cordless impact guns and that innovation isn’t just dead, due to engineering to a price point.

that extra kick 4 seconds in reminds of the newer brushless Makita saws, maybe only reversed?. I own 3, the 7 1/4" and the 6 1/2", wood saw, and the 5 7/8" metal saw. They have a high speed and high torque mode which the tool decides as your using it. Its high speed first then as the load gets higher, it goes to high torque mode. Pretty neat function. It would definitely be a cool function on impacts.

Another thought is breakaway torque. When you do the loosening from a certain torque you might want to not use your test setup because of the hydraulic pressure you do have some crush. Do you think the bigger batteries help dampen the rotational forces? If so, wouldnt that also transmit more of that rotational force to the fastener? Would be interesting to see a 5ah vs a 5ah with a 2 lb weight mounted to the bottom of the battery. And then of course 8ah with weights, using a weighted socket. For science n stuff.

When you compare to the DCF900 it's very apparent that they continued with the trend of making impact wrenches a little shorter and fatter. As you increase the size of the mechanism to increase torque, the diameter of the moving parts is a more powerful factor than their length. It's much like the relationship between diameter, length, and volume of a cylinder (e.g. the amount of water a bucket holds). Increasing the diameter increases the volume much more than increasing the length by the same amount.

It sure beats the ole "4 foot pipe on a 3 foot breaker bar, jump on it until you come crashing down" method. Also those stronger thumps would have to be better on breaking down rust. And the bonus: it tries to loosen the nut reasonably.. before breaking stuff.

Any idea what kind of sockets you'd need to put up with this? My Ridgid is already pretty brutal on sockets when working on really tight stuff, can't imagine what that much extra oomph would do to them. That's why I have to agree that a 3/4 anvil makes more sense, spread that force over a much larger surface area.

I know this is an older video but I’m at a bit of an impasse. Looking at buying my first impact wrench. 90% of its use will be on cars at home. Engineer (still in college but work in the trade) so would use it at times in work for disassembly. Looking at a compact platform as I’ll buy a bigger unit later down the line for bigger jobs at home on vehicles. Choosing between M12 and DCF921. My question is, are the DCF921 batteries the same used on the newer high torques by Dewalt? Although the DCF921 is Approx 100 euro more for the kit €253 vs €365, the battery’s being usable on the high torque units could sway me in that direction

I had been holding out on replacing my first gen Snap-On 18v Lithium 1/2” gun (can’t remember the model number) for so long because I wanted to get whatever Milwaukee was gonna replace the 2767 with. Knowing it’s about 50 years old and way overdue for replacement I figured a new model had to be coming soon. I finally decided to buy it when I heard on good authority, well as good authority as a nobody like me will ever get, that Milwaukee had no plan within the next year and likely longer, to replace the 2767. Apparently after Milwaukee released the fantastic B revision and then restarted A production, internally they considered the “new” A version a second gen. Again take this with a massive grain of salt. Anyways I finally bit the bullet and purchased a 2767 a week before your review of the DCF900 came out. Made me sad. This makes me even more sad now. I know I’m putting the cart before the horse but I honestly think Milwaukee is dragging their feet on replacing the 2767 while the rest of the brands pass them up. My local Home Depot has a 4 tool Dewalt set left over from Christmas that includes a DCF900, 2 batteries, a charger, plus the other tools. It’s been marked down from $550 to $300 I believe, I may have to purchase that.

What the heck. I'd have taken out a loan to buy that deal if I had to. I paid $200 for a used bare tool DCF900.. and that was the best deal at the time. Their prices have jumped thanks to this channel.

@2down4up Жыл бұрын
@@bluedistortions lol I do understand. I was over in the clearance end cab of the same Home Depot that had the great deal on the DCF900 and they currently have 4 4 tool sets that include an XR drill, XR multi tool, XR recip saw, an atomic 1/4” driver, 2 4AH batteries, a charger, and a bag marked down from $599 to $399. However the last time I checked and indeed bought my 4 piece Milwaukee fuel set that was equally marked down, when I got to the register it rang up as an additional $75 cheaper still. So that $399 sticker might actually be cheaper.

Which battery is best in the Milwaukee high torque I have both the 6 and 8 high outputs. Some say the 6 is better than the 8 and I would tend to agree as the lower amp hr on the same number of cells means the cells are higher rated discharge.

I know this channel is tilted more to the mechanic but I do a lot of work with steam piping and I fully concur with TTC that if you can get more torque into a handheld platform that is great. If anyone out there has ever tried to loosen the bolts from a 8"' or larger flange that has been in place for 30 plus years and has been heated and cooled over those 30 years, you know that most impact wrenches won't even touch them. We always try impact wrenches first because they are convenient, but usually we have to get the torch and cut them out. Great content as always.

This particular bolt combo is good up to around 1200--1250 on the gauge. Though does need to be changed out from wear occasionally. OTher bolts, it's not as much about bolt size. The thing is rusted in place much more solid than tightening it could ever get up to.
