How to Paint Watercolour Seashells on the Seashore
My Patrons have requested some watercolour studies of water this month and here I have used my seashell paintings and put them in situ on the seashore. I was inspired to create my own take on brilliant KZfaq watercolour tutor Nianiani's sparkly shoreline with this painting tutorial.
Please note we use white gouache in this tutorial. If you don't have gouache, you can use any opaque white water-based paint like acrylic or Chinese white watercolour.

Paynes Grey
French Ultramarine Blue
Cobalt Turquoise
Winsor Blue
Cadmium Yellow
Green Gold
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Orange
Permanent Rose
Burnt Sienna

Oh my goodness! Could you hear me gasp all the way over there!?!? I held my breath when you did the wash over the “ocean”! I was SURE it was going to wreck all those little shapes you had worked so hard and long on!! Oh my, you did a brilliant job in execution! Love, love, love this painting! I really have to stop watching your videos and pick up my paintbrush! And this has given me encouragement 😊 I live about 2.5 hours from the beach and have always loved my time spent there. Thank you so much. I have just painted it - and yes, it was intimidating. It took me 1,5 hours and the result is not easy to recognize as shells at the ocean, but I have learned so much and will try again some other time.

Awesome painting, lovely techniques, and beautiful colours. Wonderful that your inspiration was sparked by your patrons request and that you enjoyed Nianiani's tutorial. Favourite beach is Georgian Bay, Ontario Canada, awesome sandy beach and clear blue waters.

I'm new to gouache. Might you know what is the difference between the "bleed proof white" and gouache?

I've always seen bleedproof white as more of a calligraphy ink but it's always worth a try to paint with!
