The Dexcom G7 constant glucose monitor will launch in the US in early 2023. I got my hands on a demo unit to take a look at it early. I'll walk you through the new features, show off the new insertion tool, and compare it to the Dexcom G6 CGM.

Thank you. My husband has been using the 6, but insurance stopped paying for it. He is now going to get the 7 and hopefully insurance will cover it. BUT I am going to make him use it no matter what because he did so much better while using it and his numbers improved. He started using the pump too, but I do not know what the brand is. I am in a wheelchair now so my daughter takes him to all his appointments so I lose info. She had to come over and put his G6 on him because I missed the lesson and told her it would be her job - lol. I like the smaller design because he does lots of lifting and moving of items and would knock it out completely sometimes. Anyway - sorry about the history and Thank you for telling about the G7. I like hearing from people who actually use the items they discuss.

My pump trainer had me insert the G6 in the back of my arm. I later ripped it on when I turned a corner in the house a little too close to the corner of the wall. Sadly, I also ripped another out with a shirt. So, I gave up on my arms and went to putting them on my chest. It's also not official, but my stomach is where I rotate infusion sets through, so I figured a different spot will save me the trouble of keeping track of the rotation of both. Since I do use the Tandem t:Slim X2, I am eagerly awaiting the approval of the new smaller sensor; they look pretty nice all around.

Does the round thing need recycled? I’ve used the G6 for a few years and have found it so accurate. My BGL has never been this good. I guess it the same 10 days stay in? Does the transmitter need to be replaced after 3 months? Do they come with a overlay patch? Thanks for the vid

Sometimes they last 10 and sometimes they last 14. Do you always change yours at 10. Because you could just wait till it stops transmitting and just be ready to change it. Because all mine would stop between 12 and 14 days. Changing this between 2 and 3 times a month is also a lot less hassle then having to poke my finger 10 times a day.

Anybody bashing the g6. Sheesh it works wonders for me. I switched from Medtronic to Dexcom and tslim. And it was the best thing I ever did. A1c went from a 9.8 to 7.1 in a month and now riding a decent 6.7. But we all are diff. I love Dexcom so much. Only thing I was wondering is if it is compatible with tslim ?? Excellent video and thanks so much for the update

Agree with you. Was forced to use FSL for a year due to insurance. It’s ok but I have an Apple Watch which is so convenient for me. The G6 would be wonky the first day so I would place the new one at least 12 hours in advance and no problems. I have always placed on my upper arm. Never worked right on my abdomen. Just got the G7 today. Will apply on a few days. The feature that I am looking forward to is the half hour warmup period
@bobbysmith8036
@bobbysmith8036 Жыл бұрын
@@janecerullo8280 please let me know how you like it?? Im gross and sweat, so it’s hard to have all this tape stuff and I fear moving and angles in my movements will cause issue. IDC what they say, the tape itself for me is never strong enough. I have to get after market stuff to place over the standard stock stuff. But the adhesive American company I found gives me 90% confidence. Sorry to ramble, but that’s why im sticking so far with tslim to go along with my Dexcom. I fear using the new “insulin pump” cause it to me is like another sensor but with more weight, and more tape. It might be the greatest thing. But at times I have trouble with just the sensor and infusion sites itself. I have no confidence on adhesives. And relying on this to give me a somewhat normal life considering. Im not trying to have to get new parts aside from standard order. Insurance will be like what’s going on. Medtronic had some nice stuff to counteract people like me who sweat and are active. But it wasn’t covered by insurance, and for a day longer I couldn’t do it. Im very curious to hear about your experience. Maybe im to afraid to take risks. But im sure many people outside diabetes know the struggle of medical adhesives LOL. One thing we haven’t advanced I feel like. May I ask what do you mean by wonky?

@@janecerullo8280 I also just made sure my phone and pump are always in the same side of my body as the sensor on my arm. I use the biggest wire they have connecting to the infusion site and pump. So I alternate in the winter on my stomach, and just put the tubing across me to my sensor side when it’s time to change and alternate. Summer months I put the infusion site a tad below belt line on my backside. I make sure to alternate. Have you ever hit a capillary I think they call it. When you bleed and it won’t stop. When it first happened to me I thought I was going to lose all the blood. Luckily j called and figured it out. But talk about getting light headed in fear. Hitting those stink Tech is great, but sometimes they miss explaining things.

As with you, I was diagnosed several technology-generations ago -- 46 years ago with Type 1. I've experienced the evolution of staying alive via injecting pork insulin and measuring blood glucose with urine strips to all of the intervening insulin, medical and tech developments. Technological quantum jumps now occur every several years. Yet I still remain astonished while attending a T1 discussion group several years ago when some users carped about the extra weight and batteries inherent in a new-generation Medtronic pump, color screen included. The carpers expressed the attitude of "How dare they create a heavier new model? Why should I be discomfited by carrying around an extra ounce of incredibly designed lifesaving technology?" My attitude? Be lucky that we are able to stay alive with ever-improving gear. Now I'm using Omnipod 5 and Dexcom G6, both of which are imperfect devices ... but they are still marvelous wonders of technology that help keep me, and most likely everyone on Andrew's KZfaq site, in better health with than without.

I sure do hope this will be better than the G6, which I think is a major POS. They say accurate within 20% I believe, most of the time mine is further off than that. Sometimes after being on the computer for an hour or two I'll push the button to see my readings and it says it's disconnected and will take up to half hour to re-connect, even if I haven't moved away from the meter. Next time I'll run out to the store real quick and when I get home it reads normal, even after being a mile or two away. And don't get me started on all those times when I have to hit the security code 1,2 and OK to get in to do something, even if I'm already in there doing something. Time and time again I need to hit that stupid code. Last time at my Dr. appt they downloaded my results for the last 4 months, if it was lucky they got 4 days readings out of it. Doc asked if I was wearing it all the time and yes I always do. So maybe next year if my Doc asks me to try the G7 I'll give it a whirl and if it's not improved over the G6 then I'm not going to use if any more. I'll just keep pricking myself, which I'm still doing to make sure what my readings are before bed so I can take the right amount of insulin.
@AndrewOHara
@AndrewOHara Жыл бұрын
Hey Scotty! Couple things here. First, all of these issues are almost all related to the Tandem T:Slim X2, which I believe is the insulin pump you're describing. The disconnecting, the 1,2,3 situation, the days of reading, all of that is the T:Slim, not the Dexcom sensor. The good news is I do have some suggestions that may help out! For the disconnecting issue, I have occasionally seen this when my sensor and my pump are located on opposing sides of my body. Your body is dense and can be difficult for Bluetooth signals to pass through. You can situate your pump position or your set positions to help reduce this issue. If it continues, you may want to contact Tandem for a new pump. I wear the G6 and T:Slim X2 and I have maybe one disconnection every couple months and only when it is position-based and easily rectified. When it comes to history, do you sync your Dexcom to your smartphone as well as your insulin pump? If so, it is far easier to collect data and you can also run your own reports via Clarity that can give you more insight into your glucose readings. From here, you can actually provide your doctor a code and they can pull down your entire history of G6 readings whenever you go in for an appointment. No need to download off the pump and will be much more complete! Finally, if you are seeing your G6 being inaccurate, there are two things you can try. First is adjust the positioning. Maybe move more towards your sides or more towards your navel. The G6 is only cleared for the belly area and wont necessarily be accurate if you wear it on your arms, legs or buttocks. But the spot it goes in could impact the accuracy of the sensor. The second thing is calibrate it. You can calibrate at any time in the Dexcom app so if you are feeling low (or high) but the reading says you are fine, do a fingerstick and then calibrate the sensor in the app. This should clear those issues up! By the way, none of this is medical advice but more tech troubleshooting from a fellow user. The Dexcom G7 will still use Bluetooth tech and will do many of the same things you are outlining above. It's best to address them with Tandem so that you have a better experience with the G7! For what it is worth, the Dexcom CGMs are the only ones that currently work with the Tandem pumps so you dont have any other choices if you want a CGM and pump that work together without getting a different pump.

@@AndrewOHara thanks for the reply but...I'm not using a pump. strictly have the G6 monitoring system. I do calibrate it after putting in a new sensor. I wait for a time when it's been at a level number then prick myself and adjust from there. but even then when it recalibrates itself it's 25 points off or more sometimes. Maybe I just need a new unit. I'll talk eith my dr about it and see what he says. Thanks again.

I wear G6 on abdomen. G7 specifically says not on abdomen. Not a good change. I bump my arms all the time. What genius decided to make the overwatch required? How the heck do you put a tape over the sensor on the back of your own arm. Designed by morons. If it is mandatory, the applicator should do it with the sensor. Not thrilled with these. And I'm wearing G6 and G7 and the G7 is always 20 or 30 points high. Checked against my finger sticks. It seems to ignore calibrations, unlike the g6. FDA should research the inaccuracy.

The only thing it should have tried and tested on pumps and approved for the pump before being released to the public. There are so many people that would have loved to switch when it came out. The design is way smaller and I LOVE wearing the G6 on my arm it gives a more accurate readings than my abdomen. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT BEING INTEGRATED WITH THE TANDEM PUMPS.
