But personally I don't think the writers were thinking about things that deeply

What I find the most annoying is that Dexter had already won. Dexter could have said that he discovered Kurt's secret and Kurt threatened him and Harrison. That would explain his house burning down and Kurt's escape, as well as Kurt trying to frame Dexter. Those last 20 minutes of the episode where so poorly written that it is insulting.

The biggest letdown (for me) was not utilizing Batista at all. THAT'S the confrontation we needed. Kurt should've been sort of a red herring antagonist and then off him mid-season. Dexter thinks he's in the clear but then Batista arrives in Iron Lake and we get a sort of cat and mouse season 2 Dexter being chased by Doakes redux except just with Batista this time. And there's a lot of gold to be mined from that meeting and confrontation because Batista actually liked Dexter. And probably still would be more interested in helping him rather than putting a bullet into him. So much could've been done with that and they did nothing..

I thought Dexter's confession and killing Logan was BS. "Someone" Drops off some titanium screw and a note claiming Dexter killed Matt, and then Angela finds a titanium screw in the burned out ruin of Dexter's house. And that doesn't strike her as fishy at all. It would have been rather easy to point at Curt as doing a frame job, especially with the massive evidence of his "trophy room". And him murdering Logan like that seemed very out of character to me.

Because the two shows are ten years apart, the writers might have thought people would forget details like that but even so, Angela had a serial killer under her nose for twenty years and other than her friend Iris, all the girls who disappeared were seen at Kurt's truck stop and Kurt was even bold enough to ask for job applications for the girls right in the restaurant. Also, the podcaster would have been a victim if Dexter hadn't saved her in the fake motel room and she was definitely creeped out by Kurt so how did she end up a victim of his? The writers counted on the ten year gap because nothing else makes sense.

I agree tbh. I found the finale to be extra rushed. It just seemed like Harrison especially was written poorly, at one moment he loves his father and wants to be him then at the next he despises him and wants to kill him, it's like that the whole season until he finally just says fuck it im gonna kill you anyways. Like lmao, I thought Dexter could possibly die. But it just came out of no where context wise, and it felt like it was happening because "it had to happen". Also inviting Angel to IronLake and not delivering on that was also pretty dumb.

I gotta say, i agree with you across the board almost 100%. I think this new season had a really strong start, so strong that it fooled me into thinking they were actually gonna take the show and dexter himself in a new direction, but it ended up just being another season of missed opportunities, bad character work, and unsatisfying conclusions. This season couldn't even break their habit of just randomly forgetting about shit in the writers room. I dont even remember this characters name but there was this other older guy who was like a ceo or some shit and there was a protest against his business or whatever. Then he let angela borrow his helicopter for the search and tried to help audrey with her car. I think his only real point was to make you think for like half a second that maybe kurt isnt the big bad killer for this season but anyone who's seen dexter could so easily see this misdirection almost like it was a hallucinated man of religion. Overall another season of wasted opportunity brought to you by showtime, i had my fun with parts of this reboot but it just left an awkward taste in my mouth. If you want a more satisfying dexter experience just read the books.

Then in the very next day Dexter is perfectly fine and spending Christmas Day with his sheriff girlfriend and the injuries he sustained are never brought up again. Also Haden't she broken up with Dexter and was currently investigating him of being a serial killer? So why on earth would she have him over for Christmas Day and the night? Then at the end why did Dexter have to be completely truthful with Harrison and tell him he killed Logan? He could've lied and said they had a fight but Logan is injured and is fine? His priority was to escape with Harrison FIRST not stand about and have a conversation. Also how did the sheriff know him and Harrison would meet at that spot? @@laurarules3642 yea you make really good points, such wasted potential. These writers always fumble with this character. I think with two more episodes they could have har a better, fuller conclusion, but there were all kinds of pacing issues even before the last few episodes. Felt like they lost track of how many episodes they wrote and the writers were like "oh fuck we only have two episodes left we gotta end this shit" this season honestly just felt like a more compact version of the show in its entirety. Harrison's was not constant at all as a character through the season since one episode he seems to be hiding information, the other he is manipulative to Dexter, than he is a wannabe vigilante/hero, then he goes to his girlfriend with a nife and is now violent, then he really needs Kurt approval, then a victim, etc. I had good times with Dexter's show since the beginning, but I think it's time for me to move on. I remember noticing the shift in the first series when Dexter's dad went from flashbacks to full-on hallucinations, and was befuddled that it was never explored (at least to the point I stopped watching it). The implications of Dexter now justifying his more cavalier behavior with what he thinks his father would say, rather than recalling what he was taught, seemed like a great set-up for Dexter being consumed by his "dark passenger". There was even an episode where he realizes he murdered an innocent man, and I thought it would have far-reaching ramifications, being a catalyst to him making his own code, or outright abandoning it. But instead, Dex gets over it by the next episode. One of many missed opportunities that just came off as lazy writing.

They need to re-shoot the finale and rewrite it, and re-release it asap to fix this. Stop the episode just before Dex kills the cop in the jail. Set up the suspense and tension of the interactions to come, between Dex, Harry, Bautista, and Angie. Then end it on a cliffhanger to be continued in season 2. Season 2 would finally give the proper time and development to the characters and the dire situation, plus provide the opportunity to bring about a resolution to what would ultimately be Dexter's end. There were SO many better ways this could have (and SHOULD HAVE) gone. The writers obviously did not know what they were doing, ran out of time and/or budget, and fast-tracked a rushed, illogical, and unsatisfying ending to our beloved character, Dexter. RIP.

The writing is all so sloppy! The case against Dexter was shoddy as hell with incriminating evidence showing up in a highly suspicious manner. I didn't understand why Angela mentioned Batista was coming over. Why did she tip her hand? But it turned out, these contrived actions were necessary to give Dexter motivation to escape and murder Coach Nice Guy! It's so dumb, like you said, Dexter has outmaneuvered Batista dozens of times, he could probably have made use of him to plead his innocence or something. But I guess there wasn't enough time for that, besides it would have required good script work.

It could have worked if it wasn't so weirdly drawn out and then rushed. It would have honestly been more interesting to have Kurt not be a Serial Killer, and just be a rich guy who fits the code. Would have been interesting to see Dexter teach Harrison the Code, while struggling with his reawakened desire to kill. Maybe that ten year hiatus did something to him, made him a bit more unhinged. Would have been interesting to see Dexter slowly devolve into just a killer, twisting the code steadily to accommodate his descent. At least then Harrison killing Dexter would have made sense. Anything else would have been better though. There was a time I thought they'd have Harrison turn out to be a serial killer, and have Dexter struggle between upholding the code or protecting his son. What a fool I was.

With all do respect, you are way too generous about the Logan killing. Dexter would not have done it in the first place considering that there was no way to prove him guilty beyond reasonable doubt either for Matt or the bhb killings. Even if Logan wasn't killed, assaulting an officer and escaping under those circumstances would f up his and Harrison's lives. Dexter was never an idiot.

"My viewers probably never watched the last bad 3 seasons" Me who rewatched all of Dexter in anticipation for this miniseries 😳 I feel that New Blood was decent and solid. Better than the bad seasons of Dexter. I agreed with some of your criticisms especially when Kurt wasn't fleshed out more. I feel maybe the season had too little episodes, maybe an extra 5 or less would allow us to expand. Harrison was annoying and they should have settled that plot in 3 or so episodes. Also nit pick, why is he a brunette when he was blonde as a toddler, I had dirty blonde hair as a baby but when I was a toddler my hair turned dark. Harrison should be blonde. I personally feel that killing logan was rushed. I think Dexter should have waited for Angela to come back and maybe Dexter could try to appeal to her saying he's a good guy, but fail and maybe he has an animal in the cage moment, you could even bring Brian ghost to get Dexter hyped to just go ballistic and make a run killing logan. Afterwards Dexter while trying to escape with Harrison they both try to come to terms with what he just did. I would want Harrison to catch Dexter, not kill him. As in Harrison convinces Dexter that while for the most part he has killed bad people and saved lives, his darkness also has slips. Harrison phones Angela tells her where Dexter is, Dexter gives up, have a scene where Batista actually sees Dexter and they just argue and they have an emotional moment. Then the final scene would just be Dexter being processed at Metro PD, his old coworkers going is that Dexter. Hell throw in an episode just covering the news. Dexter Morgan, Saint or Sinner, Online buzz, Dexter doesn't deserve the Death Penalty. If Dexter doesn't kill Logan, Angela could maybe try to get him life but no death penalty, but if he kills Logan he gets the death penalty. Please tell me these ideas are stupid and aren't better than professional writers.

And no it’s not because I didn’t like her character, she literally couldn’t find a killer that killed her friend literally living in her own town, who was a famous well known man. Yet, because of some titanium screws, that were so weirdly placed to where no normal person would think they were a lead to dexter being the killer.

I think that Kurt should have been Dexter’s first victim. Kurt’s son, and Dexter’s reasoning for killing him, were lame. Finding out that he’d spent 10 years in the same town with another serial killer, would have been a fabulous beginning. The first two episodes could have been about killing Kurt, covering it up and dealing with Harrison. I’m not sure we’ve dodged the ‘second season’ bullet with regards to this season. Guys, it's only speculation but It seems to me that they originally had 12 episodes planned (and a script written for them) - as they did with almost all previous Dexter series (always 12 episodes!!!!), but at the last minute they were told there would only be 10 episodes and suddenly had to rewrite episode no.10 as quickly as possible. Maybe Dexter really should have met Batista originally. It's hard to say, but all signs point to it...

Bottom line--the writers thought they were a lot smarter than they actually are. And that seems to be writers in Hollywood nowadays--not doing any research, making assumptions, and thinking their twists and turns are "super genius" when they are mediocre at best. Dexter uses the snow to backtrack so the hunter can't find him??? I've NEVER seen characters do THAT before! Harrison remembers everything that happened to him when he was 10 months old? Yes, because that's how babies work. Dexter decides to murder a drug dealer in the dealer's own home, knowing the police would be coming to arrest this guy (because Dexter has always been an idiot who never thinks out his kills). Stupid crap like this made me stop watching, and I was up to episode 8, I think. I can't believe I held on that long.

I think this ending was meant to be a rewrite to the scene where Deb catches Dexter in the crate with La Guerta. Deb is faced with the choice to kill her brother, or aid him by killing La Guerta. Dexter fullt gives her permission to kill him and end this all. He even admits La Guerta is right, and he deserves to die for what he has done. But Deb couldn’t do it, which ultimately leads to her death. Now Harrison is Deb and he finally sees who Dexter really is, and has to choice to end him, or aid him. And he does what is arguably what Deb should have done. He puts him down. He ends it.

only just begun the video, but I will say that the first episode really got me hooked. Was the LACK of dexters commentary in the first episode, I got so used to hearing every single thought and quip that Dexter had, knowing what he felt and thought about any and all things, but with the lack of Dexters narration left me feeling anxious and paranoid, what was he thinking? Was he mad? Does he think about the past? The viewer has ALWAYS known what dexter thinks and feels and taking that comfort away left me feeling isolated from him I was almost desperate to know what he was thinking, the viewer was always allowed into the inner circle of Dexter, putting the viewer into the shoes of the people around him, not knowing what he really is thinking or what he is keen on and making him feel like an island like in season one I think if they held off on dexters narration until mid season would have really made it a punch but that requires taking a risk and we gotta keep dexter as the ultimate cool guy who’s always right I’m also potentially thinking way too much into a very minor detail but what the fuck else am I supposed to do

I hated the fact, that Harrison is basically a self-righteous self-spoiled brat, that is completely oblivious to things he has caused INTENTIONALLY but dares to judge people for bad things they have done unintentionally. Basically it's like as if Debra's ghost invaded Harrison's body to speak on his behalf. There was no moral high ground with Harrison. Also, if he thought what he needs is actually to reject the codex and strive to be normal, killing his first human ever (his dad on top of it, the only person that truly understood him) makes it just laughable - "dad, you kill murderers you saved probably like thousands of lives (the previous episode)" / "Dexter you kill people and because of that innocent people die, I don't want to be like you and thus I have to kill you" wtf.
