DFAT's Marc Innes-Brown in contempt of Australian Senate for misleading on UNRWA

Marc Innes-Brown, Assistant Secretary at Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, misleads the Senate with a series of false assertions about UN Watch. Contrary to what he told the Senate, numerous of the leaders and members of the UNRWA Gaza Telegram chat group were employees of UNRWA. See: unwatch.org/unrwa-terrorgram/
Innes-Brown also created a straw man by falsely implying that UN Watch's report was "promoted with a picture" of 3,000 people dancing in the street. UN Watch never used any such photo. Yet he concludes his harangue by saying, "so there's kind of sometimes kernels of truth in these claims, but there's often the multiples of people involved. There's often a degree of exaggeration." In fact, we made no such claim, and there was therefore no "exaggeration."

Who believes Israeli allegations? Not one shred of evidence has been provided in two months yet Western governments cut funding immediately. At least Australia only suspended $6m of additional support because we'd already paid our $40m. Now the $6m is now back on and I'd support $80m given that AIPAC has twisted the arms of US Reps and Senators to suspend their $430m of UNRWA funding until 2025, resupply Israel and threaten Palestine they'd cut their aid if any Israeli is ever charged by the ICC. Why on earth does Israel deserve any support?

What frustrates me is that I struggle to make ends meet because I pay my full share of tax and pay all my bills on time, and then the government doesn't have ANY problems WASTING money on GARBAGE, such AS THIS!!! But, if I didn't pay my taxes, I'd be PROSECUTED!! Same problem here in the states. At least Trump cut UNRWA funding while in office, but as soon as Biden came into the white house, he reinstituted their funding and actually increased it significantly. Brown’s explicit body language gravely betrayed his lies. His covering of his mouth for no apparent reason, multiple scratching his head and face while speaking, his drifting eyes, his avoidance of eye contact, his clearly uncomfortable stance throughout the senate questioning, and his verbal insinuations against whistleblowers are all consistent with what a liar does, and he did very poorly at that in this senate questioning.

According to the continual reporting by the Media, the Palestinians have been living in pitiful conditions. These are scripted questions, there is a specific agenda, if you read the title to this post, you will see that the claim made as to Mr. Innis- Brown , is not relative to the proceeding, the claim made here is by the provider of this post. Senator Green, was seeking to corner answers that fit the agenda, not what is happening on the ground as far as the claims referred to UNWRA. UNWRA, is a victim of war, any clear or reasonable investigation in a hostile environment of claim, counter claim, and propaganda, is not practical, nor is it effective, as was stated the aim is to remove UNWRA, as it is seen as an impediment to the goals and objectives of the current campaign. Senator Green , does not have the ability to challenge the legitimacy Mr. Innis- Brown , whose conduct and professionalism, was displayed as the experienced DFAT Bureaucrat.

How much money has UNRWA received in the last decade? Where is the money? Why are the citizens of Gaza still poor "refugees" and without infrastructure? Why didn't UNRWA report from the field that Hamas was stealing materials donated to the infrastructure? Why were UNRA study booklets found that teach murder and hatred of Jews? At whose expense were these booklets printed, illustrated, and prepared? Who is responsible for the study material that UNRA works with? Who is responsible for the UNRA employees in Gaza and the supervision of the finances? Why were many of the UNRA employees found to be supporters of terrorism according to their personal WhatsApp messages? Where did the recruitment of UNRA employees come from? So many questions so few "answers" if you can call them answers.

This guy is not being open. DFAT typically includes relatives and close associates of proscribed persons on their lists, the total number of persons mentioned in the letter celebrating Oct 7 may not be UNRWA employees but could be relatives and close associated of UNRWA employees. He is avoiding the issue here.

NGO's, Amnesty and many others have been raising allegations of UNRWA for over a decade. The problem is not necessarily each individual event, its the totality that points towards systemic failures of governance. UN has many other agencies that already perform similar functions across the globe and are quite capable of delivering this aid, UNRWA is not required.

No, it's not! It is Only for Palestinians. And not direct refugees, but their kids and grandkids too. Even if they have long left the region, for the statistics, they are still refugees. That's how from 700K in 1948 they now report 5.6 million!! It doesn't even make sense, how is it possible...?

In one way this public servant was actually refreshing. Despite providing what seemed to be agenda driven and misleading answers he did, at least, answer the questions. He did not falsely claim to either not know the answers or constantly take the question on notice and say "I will get back to you on that Senator" which most of his inept, highly paid, public service counterparts seem to use as their stock answer to everything.

As one is forced from time to time to rely on DFAT representatives for the action of administrative processing, this video more than adequately demonstrates the abysmal level of knowledge, communication skills, language, and authoritarianism that DFAT officers consistently display. Dealing with many is akin to conversing with a child.
